On the surface he does indeed sing about smokin weed and staying at home watching netflix, yes. but if you really listen to the music and the lyrics you realize: It's a song about depression. This reflects in the lyrics, it symbolizes the way you lie to yourself in a depressive period, how you reason to yourself, how you pity yourself even. The music on the other hand does both, it symbolizes what the lyrics are talking about with the melancholy present while also expressing the restlessness you often feel in such a period, in this case with the dancy rhythm section and by combining these different elements tries to express what a depressive period feels like

as a german speaker with depression i can only second the original comment. He does not mention it explicitly but it is everywhere in the subtext and the overall feel

This is, I think, why I like this version better than the actual one. Especially towards the end, I feel all the different instruments are able to create a feeling of being overwhelmed by everything (the decision wether to go out or not/ the thought of dancing in a big crowd while you actually don't feel the music/ you name it). In my opinion this adds to the underlying theme of depression and makes the last lines (I don't think I'll go dancing tonight anymore) appear in a different light.

The trumpet solo guy (his name is Ferdinand Schwarz) already featured in the Tom's Diner cover, but the few tones we heard from him there really don't do him justice. As a native german speaker: that is gonna be a hard task 😅 the german language has a ton of grammar that even germans struggle with. Though, if you're already learning spanish, at least you wont be surprised by nouns having genders

As a native german speaker: I prefer this version because imo, the strings just support the sadness of the lyrics in a beautiful way, that is kind of missing in the original. The song is about staying in, smoking weed and watching netflix, yes. But it's also about being listless because of something that is most likely depression or a depressive episode. This is beautifully portrayed by the slow strings.

AMK is recording there music multiple times, I feel like „Proberaum Sessions“ are a love letter to their own favorite songs. When all their friends are here they all just jam out and it creates a richer version of that song. You have not reacted to AMK in such a long time, please continue and maybe give the Probenraum Sessions a thorough look, my favorite would be Ausgehen.

You are right about the text. He doesn't speak of the cause, but he has been in crisis for weeks and need some more time off, smoking weeds by himself, watching westerns on Netflix. At the beginning he admits, he said he would make a new start today, ... but no, he is still tired from yesterday 😊. So, he won't go dancing tonight anymore - that is the title of the song. The more he gives himself into this idea, the happier the song sounds.
