Today's tutorial, we are going to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on this Fabric Chair (Leather). I will show you how to chalk paint leather furniture by restoring this old white cracked and peeling leather chair with Annie Sloan chalk paint and wax! This chalk paint tutorial is a great introduction for a chalk paint beginner to learn how to re-purpose old leather furniture using chalk paint.
Note: In this video we used chalk paint wax, curing times and results may vary depending on which Chalk Paint furniture wax you use. So make sure its fully cured before sitting on the leather chair! :) Also note, this was done with a real leather chair to begin with, vinyl/pleather we don't recommend (we have not tried it).

Absolutely gorgeous! I am in the process of trying this on a chair similar to yours. One tip that I found that has really worked is using shipping tape. Apply to the surface and peel, the damaged layer comes right off. Took 1 roll to do the whole chair $1.25 at Dollarama, with no sanding mess. Only took about 45min to do.

Hi Annie I'm obsessed with your videos but have not yet had the pleasure of using your products. We have moved from Australia to Italy but just arrived before lock down. Your videos keep me sane during the long hours of no contact. We have just purchased a house in Umbria and I'm so excited to move in at the end of the week and get painting. We were lucky that the previous owner didn't want the old furniture so I'm excited to give it an upgrade. I did a few pieces in Australia and a course through a local antique store who showed me the basics of how to use your products. They spoke so highly of them and you also, Iv'e be a devoted viewer ever since. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and I look forward to either making a huge mess or creating masterpieces, I'm thinking the first option hahaha. Thanks again for being so giving of your time. Deb.

Christina, you have given me such inspiration during Covid. I have watch most every one of your youtubes. After painting a antique wingback chair I had in floral design, now looks like a camel leather chair. I have done a couple of tables. Yesterday I scored a free wingback recliner with claw feet. It is very faded red fabric. None of the cushions are removable. After watching this I think I can do it, slow and steady. I would love to be able to show you the step by step process.

The Reclaimed Heirloom so it’s not hard? That’s awesome because that’s my fear painting fabric. I want to be able to sit on it and feel comfortable and not have any paint cracking and whatnot. How does it feel when you sit on it? Do you think it’ll last? It looks so good!
@TheReclaimedHeirloom

Kacha ... So my chair I did in Duck Egg ( plain sitting chair) ... it’s soft and no issues at all... you only need a little clear wax on the fabric but doesn’t make it stiff ... the fabric still feels soft and honestly doesn’t feel or look painted... one thing I learned right away is only a little paint... just like a stain ... it’s all about the water to paint ratio ... but fabric projects use way less paint than furniture (wood). The leather chair ... I used a lot of clear and dark wax .... it is still curing. I believe wax can take a few days until it’s dry ... this chair took at least a week because of the amount or wax... but it did make the chair feel soft ... just like shoe polish ... or leather bag. I am sure you will love your results... I am actually wanting to paint another chair set! 😮... I plan to try a leather look on fabric ... I will fill you in all the details... I was going to try a random dining style chair ... antique style and give it a upscale look 😉...

This is about the 3rd chair painting I've watched. One person did, I think, a 3 piece suite with a blue dye from Dylon. One did an old leather chair and I'm sure it went from green to yellow. It had been in her family a looooooong time. And now this one. And they're all really fabulous!!! Someone else actually used Dylon to revamp their carpet instead of buying new, and that was amazing! I love to see these done.

Houston Calhoun This was one of my favorite projects!! Transformation of an old leather chair that was cracked and scratched and using chalk paint to the leather it turned out fantastic!!! I sold that chair and the person that has it still tells me to this day it holds up!!! I will have to try this again on another leather chair in the future! If you try this make sure your are starting with real leather. I have not tried this method with fake plastic leather “pleather”. 💕🙏🎨

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom I was seriously shocked a) it was possible and b) it turned-out so beautifully. I told Mom, "Lola painted a leather chair," and she replied, "Are you on some medication I don't know about?" We laughed and laughed, so I sent her the video. Now she's shocked. To quickly change the subject, is it possible to chalk paint a glazed ceramic vase? I love the shape but the color is atrocious. Thank you!

Houston Calhoun Hehe too funny! Honestly I am still amazed by that one! To your question yes you can! I have chalk painted glass vases with chalk paint and other accessories it does work. For glass/ceramics I do recommend to paint first with a primer (any old brand will work) as I find the smooth glass surface is tricky for the paint to stick on. I am planning in the new year to do glass and ceramics chalk painting video tutorials. If you have any questions please let me know. 💕🙏🎨

Elaine Bell ... 😉 I used 2 brushes for this project... one oval med size for my main base of Honfleur and my flat chip brush for blending the additional mix colour blend... if your piants are poured out separately... you can dip with the same brush as your blending.... I am sure other style brushes are good too... as long as there good quality and your comfortable to hold them! ... 💙💙

Elaine Bell ... I absolutely agree! AS brushes are fantastic and last for ages! For the chippy flat brush... try Amazon ... but in all honesty the oval AS brush will do the same finish... I use the flat chippy because it’s super light and when I want to finish a larger project quicker.... I find the palm hand flat chippy brush is super light so it’s me really more so than the finish outcome! So if you have the AS oval brushes you good to go for a project like this 😉💚💚

Hi Faith! When I did that chair originally the leather was cracked heavily stained and I sanded back to the point of suede. It was a thick real leather chair and the chalk paint took to it nicely. Did you sand the leather so the chalk paint had something to grip it? You may have to sand those areas again and reapply the chalk paint. After I would apply clear wax or leather conditioner to it. I hope this helps! 🎨🙏❤️
