In today’s video, I took a thrifted chair I purchased and turned it into a faux leather chair! I’ll show you how to take a piece of furniture and paint it to create faux leather. I’m honestly in awe of how it turned out, it was so satisfying to paint! In total, I spent less than $100 on this project. How do you think it turned out? Comment below!

I've been a teacher for almost 30 years, and i can share a similar hack. We always do a lot of t-shirt decorating with the kids for holidays and school events, and fabric paint can be really expensive when you need to buy enough for 100 kids. You can make your own fabric paint using regular acrylic paint and adding a very small amount of fabric softener. About one half teaspoon per one cup of paint is a good ratio. It's not exact, but if you use too much, the mixture can get lumpy. This makes a fabric paint that WILL NOT wash out. You can also thin this mixture out with water and put in a spray bottle as well (just thin it out quite a bit or it will clog the sprayer.)

So I found the perfect $20 chair.. and I will be trying for a "vintage" black leather look. .. mostly cuz I always have some sort of black paint on hand. I'm curious to see what it'll look like! It's a "good bines" chair and the fabric is not too bad.. definitely not my style, but I'm hoping to change that with just some time and a lil trial and error.

It’s definitely a California thing to have amazing thrift stores. When I lived there I found and endless supply of amazing home decor and clothes. I think it’s all the rich people getting rid of stuff and people who like to switch out clothes really often. Idk what it is but I miss it.

Debi, watch her videos on Debi’s design diaries. She has painted couches and chairs. She uses her amazing chalk paint, which while more than cheap house paint it lasts and wears well, because it’s highly pigmented you use way less so it goes farther.

You should test this on those faux leather that are peeling off, there's usually fabric underneath after you peel everything, if it works it would be an amazing technique to avoid losing those pieces.
