+Jackal I think Garland meant that his final version of the movie remain intact despite a producer's request to change it .. of course there will be unused footages before the director's final cut, all movies have unused footages and often times director will shoot a few outcomes to one scene just to see which one works best and they will have something else to fall back on if one thing does not work ...
