Anno 1404 is a city-building and economic simulation game with real-time strategy elements. I grabbed it over the winter break and have been really enjoying it.

seconds that ...though i am not so sure if anno 1800 is great as it looked more 'average' for me ,but i havent played it.. you have ? also curious if its dune 2000 or the 'emperor battle for dune' he played he played , dune 2000 was very 'traditional 90's' C&C rts... while the emperor one was very ''crude but functional and estethicly theme matching 2d with some rather neat ideas about not just interface structure but how to build in a classic C&C rts

Yep played it, unfortunately not that much yet. Arround 40hrs I would guess. Its like a classic anno but way deeper/more complex and I guess with that its harder. Its the first anno where I sometimes struggle to get income since there actually are buildings that have running costs of like i think 1k for a power plant. Also there is the new addition of the "working power" (Or something like that idk, anno is one of the games I dont play in english^^) which also makes it more complex. Overall its great but idk there is something about 1404 that I just looove. Or maybe Im just biased to Ubisoft games since I pretty mich grew up on Ubisofts Stratege games like Anno1701 and The settlers 5^^

@@Admonitor_ nha , as a guy that grew up with some games...and tested games like anno 1701 while growing up but only anno 1404 realy hooked me. i can confirm....theres something special about it ,and of course its allure only becomes stronger considering its the last anno game free from all the ''conect to your acount'' or ''here is the game store shortcut'' etc .....I looked at that futuristic anno game they made before 1800 :/ but that it not hade any land combat , and the citys was just window dressing the dudes in them rairly did anything aka...very few things like seeing an actual little dude leave the warehouse to pick things up ...but above all ,the drm crap ubi is famused for that they started to push on the anno series in that one... that was when it realy killed any interest from me for the series anymore... do the 1800 one also demand that obnoxious ''U-acount login'' to play ? like they ruined said futurisitc anno with ,and might and magic with ? and it is in the 1800 one that you 'take over' ilands by just sitting infront of its port ? unlike anno 1404 where a player or AI just can make a new one on the iland and start bring in goods over another beach..wich is far more logical in my view and lees cheese inviting ^^

@@Amoth_oth_ras_shash I mean growing up with 1701, 1404 did everything right that 1701 did right but better. With the addition of a second civilisation it just added more complexity that you never had in Anno until 1404. Also I feel like even now it doesn't look that bad, it aged very well. Graphics wise 1800 is wow, for a build up strategy game the graphics and the lights and stuff look so good. All the "futuristic" Annos were kinda bad to be honest. I mean don't get me wrong there will be players that loved those but it was just not my piece of cake. Yeah 1800 needs a u-play account (or I think the name got changed to ubisoft connect) but thats not a big miss for me, since I've got an account there anyways bc of other games. I remember when the first futuristic anno came out, that u-play conection and stuff was pretty shit... but it has gotten better. But yeah unfortunately the times of buying the game once, and for example give it to your brother so he can play it as well is kinda over... back in the day we were always doing that. It's been some time since I played 1800 and was fighting but I think there were two ways of taking over islands. 1. Buying all the shares of the island. I think you could already do it that way in 1404 venice. If you buy all the shares of an island (really expensive) you get the option to buy the island (even more expensive) without beeing in war with the enemy. 2. Go to war and kill his harbor, docks and stuff. So this one is a bit more complex. Every island has a "island moral"- bar that is kinda like a health-bar. To get that health-bar down you can do two things. You either kill critical infrastructure of the island like the oil-port so the powerplants go down and the people will go on the streets because their needs aren't met. The other way is to straight up kill their whole port and stuff. A mix of both ends up in you conquering the island. You can get more moral by for example building a lot of defences like big ass cannons and stuff. Once the island is conquered you got two options again. a) you take over the island, which means you get the island but all buildings get destroyed, so you got a "fresh" island (I think the buildings get destroyed because of balancing issues... it would be kinda broken if you could keep all the buildings) b) you let the enemy keep their island but get a part of all the money they make with it I think thats how it worked, I may have missed something but overall that should be it ;)

It is always funny when a non german speaking youtuber finds "out" about Anno, one of the most famous german developed computer game series. It is quite funny that even though it is a huuuuge success in Germany, it is not nearly well enough known in other markets and that is a shame. Anno games are true gems. 1404 is one of the best in the series and held that title for a long time, but for me - personally - Anno 1800 took that spot. Enjoy playing!

I know the feeling (German too). I went to study games design in the UK and no one knew of Anno, nor of Settlers. To most people Germany is just the land of silly simulators. Heck, Crysis was made in germany too... So glad to see more people around the world giving blue byte the praise and exposure they deserve.

Hi Shack! (Sorry if this comment shows up more than once, KZbin was acting up while writing this) First and foremost, Shipname for a Merchant: The Sinkable, The Precious, The Wellerman/Billi o' Tea, The Flying Dolphin Second, Some Background on the Anno Series, The Studio behind it, and some other games from them you might like: All of Anno (with the exception of 2205) are gems among the city builder/colony strategy games. I played all of them for hours and hours. If you want some near-future with a Focus on ecological sustainability ...and nukes... You should pick up Anno 2070, one of my personal Favourites (does have sea, air and sub combat). Also, Anno 1701 is a beautiful city builder thanks to it's palace construction. The new Anno 1800 took a good step mixing the old way of Anno from 1404 and 2070 and adding some neat features and a bit of QoL. Sadly 1800 does not have land combat, but even then, charging a bunch of Ship of Lines with Ironclads is an entertaining sight. Beyond that, Anno is created by Blue Byte, a german studio, which these days is under Ubisofts wing. They also made the Settlers series of video games. The early Setlers titles (up until settlers 4) are charming (but hard) strategie games which you might want to check out as well. I don't know much of the newer settlers titles, but if you got time, it's probably no harm to take a peek. Anyway, glad this game series gets some more exposure especially in the english market, I feel very few people outside of Germany (I am german btw) know about these games. Anyway, time to get back to getting my Sh** pushed in by AoTR because I am bad at the game no matter what I try

I've played all the Anno games and 1404 is by far my favourite. I've been playing the Venice edition for a while now and there are a number of different ways you can play. You decide what you want to achieve. There are lots of set missions which can earn you special currency to unlock additional content, but in continuous mode there are no default objectives. Conquest, land-grab, exploration, empire, land war, sea war, biggest city, prettiest city... whatever you want your world to be. I've been looking for ways to increase my global population for some time and I recently discovered an "undocumented" tactic that has enabled me to greatly exceed my previous best. It's not a cheat at all, it's a perfectly legitimate feature of the game that as far as I can tell hasn't been mentioned in any tutorials. So anyway, if anyone wants to have a go at beating it (and I know it is beatable because I'm not done yet), my current highest global population is 351,000 - which as far as I know is a world record - and I'm aiming for 370,000.

@@painterguylincs I am well aware pyrates have been around forever. There is a famous anecdote told by St. Augustine of Alexander the Great meeting a pyrate, questioning him how he dare be so insolent. The pyrate replied that he did with one ship what Alexander did with 100. However, the phrase used here has an established time period it is understood to refer to. I would point it out if I heard someone describing the early 1800s as world war 2, too. Since you love pedantism I will also point out that pyrates are around today not only in Somalia (where it has died down a bit now) but it is also big in west africa (guinea gulf) and various regions in asia (malacka strait, other areas nearby)

I would love to buy the 1800 Title ... but sadly the game specs are way too advanced for my system to work, I also recently got into Civilization - Beyond Earth - Rising Tide ... another wonderful game that really works well on my computer. Manor Lords might be the closest thing to a modern Stronghold. The game will have what I always wanted Stronghold to have: the ability to customize the weapons and armor of the soldiers. You build your town and you have your people produce the weapons and armor. It looks like when there's a battle, you distribute your available helmets, shields, torso pieces, etc. as best you can, even for militia. The castle building looks like it will be less advanced though. It looks like a city builder, but not a castle builder. I only know what's in the trailers though.

Anno 1404 with Venice is the best i think. I have Anno 1800 and played it a few times but for some reason for me this one is in balance but though also. Just take Baronessa Constanza Zanchi and Cardinal Lucius nice for a challenge.

I love anno 1800. this is one is quite cute in it's design and it does have its own little charm, but I'm hoping they remaster this with 1800's graphics because this is the type of anno im wanting! my 1 criticism of these games though, the islands are so tiny, I hate that so much! bigger islands please!

0:28 lol congrats, Shak! You're like, the only internet person I've seen who likes the Anno Ground Combat. The reddit Anno community seems to dislike it with a passion. Oh snap, tornadoes! The only reason I dislike them (but still play with em on) in Anno 2070 is because they literally spend their entire lifespan going from one corner from the map in one of the craziests B-lining to exists towards my cities lol 14:21 If I recall correctly: Anno 2205 is the first anno where you can make it look like the Civilians travel to their workplace. But I think it's Anno 1800 that forces you to have house to job road connections. 22:24 I don't think the A.I plays the same game as you, or at least it certainly does not in Anno 2070 and 1800. So don't expect the A.I's city building to look competent. It's just for show. edit: You know what? I think I'm backseating, so I'll shut up now

Ur lucky you got this new updated version. I started with the old version. The 32 bit version that crashes after a while on a 64 bit system lol. I will not go back to a 32 bit system haha. So I just got this version. Totally worth the current 15 bucks imo. Anno games are all worth it. Every single one. From the first one to 1800. The most detailed beautiful builders on the market. Puts sim city and and other builders to shame imo.

Do you plan to connect all your roads together or leave them as they are. And make sure you have open route's to get to.
@painterguylincs
@painterguylincs 2 жыл бұрын
It's not always a good idea to have your road system completely contiguous. If, for example, a farm is connected to two market buildings, the cart will ALWAYS come from the one that is farthest away, and even if there's only one market building in range they will always take the longest available route, so if possible you want to deny them that choice and make sure there's only one way to get from A to B. The reason is, when a farm or factory or whatever is full, it shuts down until a market cart arrives to take away some of the goods. This will leave you wondering why your inhabitants are experiencing shortages when you think you are producing enough. It's because the production buildings are spending too much of their time idle while waiting for transport.

2070 definitely has a lot of appeal. I prefer the sci-do setting myself...was tragic what happened with 2205.
@Freezezonian
@Freezezonian 3 жыл бұрын
@@liesdamnlies3372 I don't know if I'd say it was tragic, I liked 2205 myself, not as much as most of the other anno series. But I liked the attempt at building bigger cities. And getting to operate on multiple maps was a really cool idea I hope they visit again. I think though the idea of separating, the trading, the building and the combat as much as they did is one of the big factors in why the game wasn't just as as fun in the same ways.
