Anno 1404 - Venice HE: Imperator

Anno 1404 is in my opinion the best entry of the franchise. Good thing the add-on Venice added a nice Multiplayer and some new features. Discover with me what made this game so great! (and this time with full 64bit support)

Nice to see you playing Imperator scenario! I think you can still salvage this run because you have IMO the best starting island on the map. It has multiple stone and iron deposits so just focus on hitting patricians and begin MASS producing tools and weapons and you will have a strong war fleet in no time. I was able to beat Imperator a few months ago and I basically just 'camped' on my starting island which was almost identical (if not the same island as yours with same deposits) and never ran out of tools or weapons. Aside from the small oriental island I had, I did not settle for a long time until I knew none of the AIs would pose a threat to my war fleet. I also had the AI declare war on me relatively early too just shortly after I reached Patricians. One thing you might want to consider too is once you hit patricians, buy the wheat seeds and produce bread on your island. You won't have to worry about producing or buying spices since giving patricians bread will prevent them from revolting.

For your main occidental island, you can place inactive fisherman's huts in every possible place that the AI can build a castle. The AI is not that clever, so they won't be able to destroy them an then immediately build a castle to invade you. Also with 400 honour you can get 2 small warships from Northbrough which you can use until you have a weapon production.

There is indeed a chance that a hard AI will declare war on you if they think you are weaker than them. This can even happen when you have a trade treaty with them! That is why I wanted to see you complete the Imperator scenario with these challenges!!! I am really looking forward to the next episode. Hopefully that goes a little bit better!

You have the perfect starting Island, rich of iron and stone. Remember you don't need a continuous supply of spices. Collect some spices and then upgrade to 21 patricians houses. That's enough patrician to build everything important for war. After that you could even delete the patricians because if you have unlocked the buildings you can build them even if you don't have patricians anymore. Just get enough citizens for gold and start up your iron (for tools and weapons) and stone (for walls around the coasts) production and buy glass and quarz (for glass production) at your warehouse.

Haha lol. This is one if the easiest title you can get ;) I did it very easy. I saw your first video some minutes (sorry for my bad english) and I knew you will defeat. Your problem was or is, you see many islands. You only should open the map of two islands (one north and one South) and the island of the Lord. Because if you didn't find the island of an evil they can't attack you. In the moment you find it, they going to kill you. With this 2 islands and the Lord you can build a big town and get soldiers. But better are ships. Because if the soldiers can't get on your island you haven't problems. Ships can you get from the sultan for glory. Buy 3-5 ships from the sultan and you have a good armor with some soldiers. I hope you understand my bad English. Best wishes Imperator Hook the cruel ^^

Next time hide and develop noblemen quickly. Very well possible but a little luck is needed for the map. And don't build other things or overproduce. Do not explore the whole map but only the most essential things.

LOL, the reason they are so aggressive is that you expand too quick, usually at the 3rd island, they will started to dislike you.

Sorry. This is not the weekness of the game, you are too slow :). Building a fleet is priority nr. 1. But I failed also fast on my last try to powergames in 2070, don't worry :). As it's been said: why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up :D.

we need to differentiate here. was i too slow? yes. but since i was not at patrician's level, i got stuck in a dead-end situation, which is bad game design (per definition btw). there is a reason why for example in command and conquer you can recruit missile infantry very early: to counter tank rushes and even lategame units in case someone does a tech rush. you have at all times the means available to defend yourself. in anno 1404 that is not the case against land troops. that is a design-mistake (that they fixed in 2070 btw)

@@LeagueofUngentlemanlyWarfare yes. You we're too slow and not at patricians. So the game punished you for that. This are hard AI and they don't wait for you :). Don't get me wrong. I am also not the fastest player, more the one at your side :). But really try to rush to patricians and not claiming islands and building layouts. Fast and dirty. In another reply you said it, build only so much you need. For the achievement "the emirate" I failed about 4 times because I built too much. As I built only things I needed and not too many inhabitants, it worked.

@@LeagueofUngentlemanlyWarfare I was about to comment something about that problem halfway through the video, but I decided to wait until the end.... Yeap, I think it's very punishing, as there's absolutely nothing to defend oneself until patricians. And even then it's quite hard to defend oneself (warcraft 2 tower style was useful for me once I was attacked fiercely by Lucius). Nevertheless, I think the priority should be getting a fleet, usually through Northborough. Anyway, excellent series so far, I've enjoyed and learned a lot from your videos! And I keep learning!
