I would like to suggest as an alternative to a wilderness experience the faithful of any age could simply schedule a time and place to experience uninterrupted solitude - alone and without technology or other distractions - at a hotel or other temporary lodging - where wilderness survival skills are not required. The reason I mention this is because I think the opportunity to be alone in uninterrupted union with God and only our private thoughts, reflections and prayers is the important thing to start with. As one who loves the outdoors and has done a good deal of backpacking when younger, I love the idea of this challenge and agree the ideal is to be alone in God’s - not man’s creation. Do it this way if you are able.

Perhaps go for a silent retreat in a monastery... that's good if you're not ready to head into the woods. But of course, going to the woods and doing some primitive living is a very good thing and something all men should train for, prepare and do...

This topic about a 🌳wilderness 🏕️ solitude retreat is very interesting to me father because I am all about the outdoors. My question is, how do you know if you feel the call to do this kind of retreat? Can I fish 🎣 for my meals during this type of trip?

It might be helpful to give a high level outline of what the 72 hours will be like. What physical items to take: food and water, basic safety items such as either a tent or tarp shelter; fire starters and wood; notebook to record insights, Compare this to a retreat center where a similar process takes place in solitude

I think young men who do this kind of thing are pretty amazing. He would make a good 'head' of a family one day to learn to listen to the Lord. Father Mark Goring, what do you recommend for us old lady's to do? 🤣 TIA.

Father, I’m disabled and have several medical conditions that limit my ability to retreat to a location which does not provide adequate accessibility. I would love to escape all this and be in a place that I could be one on one with the Lord and Our Lady without any distractions. I have that call for quite some time now. I guess I’m afraid of the challenges I may encounter. I trust the Lord, I just don’t trust myself. Of course I’m 53 and not exactly the demographic you are referring to. But could you may offer some suggestions for someone with my limitations? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my comment.

@@carlafortunato6556 Sometimes God doesn’t give us the answers right way because He is preparing us for the grace He wants to give us! So keep your faith, go to Mass, go to Confession, spend some time in Adoration before Jesus in the Tabernacle and talk to Him as a friend. Open your heart to Jesus, present Him all your worries, fears, desires, hopes and trust His providence. God is in control of everything! Also pray the Rosary everyday (with the exception of Mass, Confession and Adoration, there is no prayer more powerful than the Rosary). May God bless you! May the Holy Spirit guide you! May Jesus be always your best friend! And May the Virgin Mary always protect you and intercede to God for you! God loves you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Fr. Goring. I'm noticing lately that a lot of my Catholic friends have become very cynical, probably as a result from all the psy-ops that we have all endured the last many years, to the point where they have shut down from society completely and are kind of just waiting for everything to fall apart, seemingly without regard to the fact that, last I remember, only God knows the day and the hour and that we are a people of hope no matter what and that we are to live this life like we will the next--joyfully. Or am I missing a new dogma that was recently proclaimed of negativity and doom and gloom and grim predictions? Thank you for listening and for all that you do!

I'd like to go bushcrafting and making it a retreat, but.... Then I would be missing daily Adoration and Mass. I can't celebrate Mass myself (yet). So what's wisdom here?

There should be men's groups that fellowship after adoration...at least one group in every city. Godly men, talking about Godly things. Maybe to keep things in line have the discussion start with talking about whatever Fr Mark said in some video... I'm a new Catholic and am having difficulty being a "practicing" one. Please pray for me. I need a "faithful fellowship group" Can anyone recommend something in Hamilton or Toronto area?

Father -the Canadian parents cannot buy a house for their families. The right to die is now the duty to die. Pray for Canadian Liberty when taxes exceed their tipping point. Life Liberty And the Pursuit of Happiness It is a good foundation for Freedom of religion, conscience and right to worship. You can say Mass in the woods and drink beer but the people called to marriage and parenthood have other priorities and concerns

I'm married with children and have been fasting on Saturdays for our priest's intentions, praying more with our children,, and trying to cut out technology distractions in the house. We can adopt his "going out into the wilderness" in our state in life in a different but similar way. We can all fast, pray more, cut out noise from T.V. and technology, and pursue God in prayer 🙏

We need to win souls one at a time. It is not about saying mass out in the woods as you say. That is not the end game. Salvation is. An informed choice of faith happens when the distractions are eliminated, and a person seeks Him and asks Him in. You cannot force friendship of any kind even with God.

Romans 6:9 KJV "knowing that CHRIST being raised from the dead dies no more; death has no more dominion over HIM. 10 For in that HE died, HE died unto sin ONCE: but in that HE lives, HE lives unto GOD. Hebrews 10:12 KJV "But this MAN (JESUS CHRIST), after "HE had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER" sat down on the right hand of GOD 14 For by ONE OFFERING (CHRIST shedding HIS real blood and giving HIS real body on a real cross) HE has PERFECTED FOREVER (saved) them that are sanctified (forgiven of all sins) 18 Now where remission of these (sins) is, "there is NO MORE OFFERING FOR SIN" (Parenthesis mine) Note: CHRIST paid the penalty for sin which is death ONCE for us in our place. There are no more offerings to be made.
