Over all I think it was a brilliant idea on their part. And when the scusesor comes out I can put my switch to the side at its current firmware and wait for someone to hack it and turn it into a great retro machine.

I don’t see Pokémon Legends Z-A releasing before fall 2025, both from a lack of info and marketing but also knowing the schedule for the (physical) TCG having no tie-in set for it through November 2025. For me, the announcement of backwards compatibility solidifies my decision to get a Switch 2 at launch. Getting trade in value from my Switch 1 without abandoning my game library is too sweet a deal.

I honestly believe that the main reason Nintendo keeps teasing and stalling about the new system is the don't want another Wii to Wii U situation. They want to build hype and anticipation to prevent any confusion between the two systems like what happened with the Wii U.
@ToeCutter0Ай бұрын
Wii U was a marketing failure, not necessarily a technical one. I remember shopping for Wii U and NO ONE understood WTF that handheld controller was? Was Wii U an upgrade over Wii, or just the new controller? It was a horrible decision to make a controller the gimmick. I don't think there is any chance of folks being confused with Switch 2, unless they choose a dumb product name. If it's just Switch 2, they'll sell just fine, assuming the price is right.
@mettelindegardnielsen9411Ай бұрын
Unsure about your prediction of pokemon coming out, since they have jet to give it a big marketing push, and pokemon have quite often begun that big push about 4-6 months before release of a mainline game(and for people who don't know, pokemon legends games are considered mainline, they are just not a new generation game).
@vlacroixАй бұрын
Seconding this. Also want to add that Scarlet/Violet had a serious impact on the series' reputation, and given the public response I have to imagine that fans will be more wary to buy Gen 10 unless they can show big improvements. I think the big sign that we shouldn't expect Gen 10 in 2025 is that we still know basically nothing about PL:Z-A. If it's to come out in Q1 2025, why haven't they marketed it? Pokémon is the perfect drip feed hype machine and we don't even have gameplay footage.
@nindieboy4194Ай бұрын
Legends ZA won't come out before March 31, at least that's what I believe. They didn't even say the window of ZA (like spring or beginning of 2025). I assume it will be an April -june Title.
@qwert_511Ай бұрын
I imagine late January is when they will begin their marketing cycle for ZA, with a July-August release frame. To release it in January would be a equivalent to shadow dropping it lol
@Dalexien_Ай бұрын
I think there’s a 0% chance that Legends Z-A releases before the end of March 2025, for one big reason: marketing. Legends Z-A has received zero marketing as of now, and every mainline title usually has a marketing campaign that lasts around 9 months, starting on Pokémon Day and ending with the release of the game in October/November, it’s basically impossible that TPC decides to publish the game with near zero marketing, so it’s most likely that the game will release in the usual holiday season window that Pokémon likes so much. Plus, the Pokémon TCG is another thing that basically guarantees that we won’t see Legends Z-A early next year: every new mainline game release is usually follower soon after by the release of a TCG expansion that’s thematically fitting with the new games, and all the TCG expansions that are scheduled for the first 3-4 months of 2025 aren’t related to Kalos or gen 6 or Z-A at all, which tells us that at the earliest the game will possibly come out in May or June 2025. Regarding the gen 10 games, I think there’s also a 0% chance that they come out next year, and a 100% chance they’ll release at the end of the 2026: 2026 is the series’ 30th anniversary, and TPC will definetly want to have a new generation to come out to celebrate, just like they did in 2016 for the 20th anniversary with the first gen 7 games Pokemon Sun and Moon. 2025 will be the year of Legends Z-A, while 2026 will be the year of the new generation of Pokémon games. Lastly, Game Freak’s Teraleak that happened last month gave us a couple of details on the nature of Z-A and the gen 10 games’ releases: apparently, Legends Z-A is not a cross gen game, is being developed by Game Freak only for the current Switch, while the gen 10 games, which have the codename Gaia, are being developed exclusively for the Switch’s successor. I know you don’t talk about leaks on the channel but I wanted to add some extra info in case it comes useful with future forecasts.
@EnigmaticGentlemanАй бұрын
I mean I agree that its not coming out by March, but I think the lack of marketing is more because they want to show off the next gen version first, because lets be real we know the Switch 1 version will look and run terrible. Also Legends Arceus had a shorter marketing span, could just be they think these games aimed at their more hardcore base don't need as much marketing.
@TheGamingTeam101Tgt101Ай бұрын
@EnigmaticGentleman I think it will run decently. It may still look bad but. I think they will sort out the prefomance.
@PresumptuousPopplioАй бұрын
So this is getting into some Teraleak info, but regarding Legends ZA's release date... The earliest it's releasing is April. They're current aiming between that and July. My personal bet's on May since mid-May would act as a sort of halfway mark to a 3 or 5 year dev schedule for the whole new generations.
@j-arthur1671Ай бұрын
No mainline game (yes ZA is mainline like Arceus) has released with less than 9 months off marketing. Pokemon games have a particular marketing schedule, months of trailers, teasers, commercials talking about new pokemon, areas, mechanics etc. So ZA coming in Q1 next year is not happening.

@blazie42069 I'm guessing sometime in Q1 2025. Nintendo is trying to avoid any confusion over Switch 1 & Switch 2. Normies probably have no idea that Nintendo will announce a new Switch in the next 3 months. Announcing that their new console will offer BC with Switch 1 via tweet is a smart move for Nintendo. Folks concerned about BC will find the tweet, but it in no way suggests that Switch 2 will launch soon. For all we know, Nintendo could disappoint us all by announcing the Switch 2 in March, and that it will ship in Oct/Nov 2025. I genuinely hope they will emulate the Switch's launch and ship in March, but we just don't know. 🤷

Something that I saw in this announcement that you didn't talk about was the medium the information was given in. Backwards compatibility is something that is hard to show visually, directly saying it is easier and doesn't lead to as many questions. This makes me think back to the switch's initial trailer which didn't have any dialog. Answering this noisy question now, in this way makes me think a similar sort of visual trailer with talking happening at a later presentation, like the original switch, is more likely than before this announcement.

I think it's exactly what you said, it's to let people relax and just buy whatever switch games knowing they can play them on their new Switch next year. It certainly made me feel better about the future of my switch games. I figured this would be a feature anyway but it it's nice to know early, no matter what Switch 2 ends up being. All I cared about was better performance and backwards compatibility. Quick update: I don't think there will be a Pokemon game in Q1/Q2 2025. They would have said so by now, especially when it's looking like we aren't getting another Direct until February with the announcement of Xenoblade for March.
@enriquepinero707Ай бұрын
100% this will improve sales of current Switch games. I was thinking of holding off buying Mario Wonder, but now I think I may pick up the cart on a black Friday Sale, as well as phsyical copies of some other games; knowing they will work on the Switch 2 and I can put the carts in any system; without changing my primary console status. I sold my OLED and some games, in favor of a Switch lite; as it is more compact and would still serve as a pocket friendly option, compared to my future Switch 2 purchase; which I may not always carry around on a bus commute (depending on where I am going). I imagine Nintendo could sell more Switches AFTER the Switch 2 launch; if they released a Switch Pocket that is smaller than the Switch lite, but also have better battery and HDMI out; for a lower cost. I would definetly get that; even after my Switch 2 purchase!

MVG's comment really was more on the challenges of software emulation/translation layer as Switch 2 has a new GPU; Nintendo's historical Backwards compatability involved including original hardware in the new device, which while elegant is an expensive solution and can be borderline disastrous to hardware design (see the Wii U CPU being hamstrung by essentially being a 3 relatively old Wii/GameCube PPC CPUs) The hardware BC also i think is generally not very pleasant for the user. The console simply switches to BC mode and you get booted into the old console's environment and none of the new features in the new console is available. This is quite glaring on both the 3DS playing old DS games and Wii U playing old Wii games. Features like friendlists, Miiverse etc were not available. There's also a limitaiton that BC chain is easily broken as hardware progresses. for example, GBA had GB Backwards compatability, but the DS only had the hardware for GBA BC, and original Game Boy games didn't support it. Given leaks have suggested the Switch 2 SoC will not have the original Switch hardware, the BC is very likely a translation layer/software based and that means it will be the first time Nintendo's done this and is allows Switch as a platform to exist perpetually even if Switch branding is dropped, BC could still be supported for original Switch games in future hardware configuraitons via the translation layer emulation. This is a big step for them and should not be downplayed.
@seedofwonderАй бұрын
I think the challenge Nintendo faces is a moving target. The longer they delay the console launch, the more time they have to develop a stellar launch lineup, but the higher people's expectations become. As so much coverage has suggested, Nintendo appear to have been sitting on completed software for a while now. I get the sense they have pivoted more than once. MP4 seems like the delay(s) turned it into a cross-gen launch title whereas it originally might have been a Switch 1 exclusive. That is a good thing. On some level I wonder if Scarlet/Violet were rushed out so Game Freak could focus on their first Switch 2 game, and now that has been pushed back into 2025. That would be a case where the consumer lost out re: the former, but the next one might be way more polished. The point is, I think there is potential for Nintendo to have one of the best reveals in the history of gaming. When did Bloomberg publish that Nintendo had been telling devs to make their games 4K compatible, 2020/21? Some of those games were scaled down for Switch, but many have probably been upscaled or expanded for the successor. It's conceivable to me that we have a solid 2-3 years of system sellers. If they want to sell out consoles, they just need to pack the reveal trailer with everything ready to show, even if the release window stretches beyond the first year. They have taken so long that they should easily sell 40 million units in the first two years. It's just getting harder to be patient.
@Neoxon619Ай бұрын
Let's be honest, though. Legends Z-A probably would've had its release date announced by now if it was coming in the last quarter of the fiscal year. Now we're too close to the end of the fiscal year for a February release to be feasible for PLZA, especially for a game we haven't seen gameplay for yet. In all likelihood, PLZA will be the big Pokémon release for later in 2025 while Gen 10 holds down 2026. Even what little we got from both games in the Game Freak leaks as well as the release schedule for the TCG not having any Legends Z-A tie-ins for most of 2025 point in this direction. Also, we know from the Game Freak leaks that PLZA is a Switch 1-only release. Gen 10 is for-sure coming to Switch 2, with the possibility of a cross-gen release since a Switch 1 version was tested.

a more polite version of SireDragonChester's comment on backwards compatibility: If the switch 2 uses similar processor architecture, then switch 1 games will tend to run. Something else in that announcement that I feel is worth noting is that NSO will carry forward to the new system. I know I personally filled out an NSO-related survey some months back in which I said that I wanted to hear more information about what would happen to NSO when the new system released, and I doubt I'm the only one. I'm sure some people canceled their NSO subscriptions out of an assumption that this would be the last full year they use it (citing the October date you mentioned before), so I wouldn't be surprised if this announcement was made in part to reassure NSO subscribers that there will still be benefits on Switch 2 if they keep their NSO subscription active now.

Kudos bringing up the third-party concerns here. There had been brewing discussion regarding the Dragon Quest HD-2D games, particularly in Japan, following Yuji Horii's announcement at Tokyo Game Show that the pair of games would exchange save data, such that the order played between DQ III HD-2D and DQ I+II HD would affect the story of the other, and how this would work if Switch owners did not have access to their DQ3 saves on Switch 2, where they might be buying and playing the DQ I+II HD-2D game next year. Nintendo had to get this news out to reassure Dragon Quest fans (among others) that this kind of stuff would not be an issue with the new system. Pokemon in February is 10% chance. If it was February it would have likely been covered in an August/September/October Pokemon Presents, and there wasn't one. Pokemon Presents always falls Feburary 27th and no indication this would be different in 2025. A Pokemon game is exceptionally unlikely to be a shadow drop - its a title well worth promoting for a while. I'd almost knock it down to 0%, but there is a chance that they run a January Direct rather than the typical February, since they already moved the normal September Direct up to August a few months ago. Could potentially announce in January Direct and do February release, but that's still a short window for a Pokemon game. I'll grant that It would be the best game to sell hardware and reach that 12.5 million mark if its got a special edition Switch. But let's be honest - Nintendo's probably already going to be sitting on a million extra Switch units come April 1 and dropping a special edition model into the mix late in lifetime is a bit risky. They're going to be looking to shed this excess inventory throughout 2025 without having to resort to drastic price cuts, and adding more Switch units on top of ones not already sold complicates matters.

It’s NOT that hard for Nintendo when they using similar but newer ARM cpu and they using newer RTX 3xxx (Ampere) Gpu. To say it’s hard is kinda bs. Yes there will be some issue with some older games from switch. But not like Nintendo was switching x86 and say switching to AMD Soc. Then yes, That would be a hell a lot harder, Cus your switching the architecture, there is huge difference from mobile Arm Soc to a desktop x86, like AMD Soc, like ps5 zen 2/RDNA2 Soc/Apu. Their was rumours Sony was in talks with Intel, to power the ps5. That would been very hard for Sony as might have broken many ps4 games for Sony. That would be hard. So get your facts right before you spread wrong information.
@TeltStoryАй бұрын
The thing about getting facts right, is that it is difficult to tell which facts need to be verified, as facts can change or accumulate more information and complexity. I can see how this was considered a low priority fact. Facts changing? What does that mean? For example standards, practices, how things are made. These are updated often enough that the uniformed will not realize they have been changed. I think there's a limit to the amount of research one person can do before, putting their foot down and putting their research out there. There are good practices for research. There are bad practices for research. I believe that contradictions, discussion, and reasoning are the way to the truth. I think the contradictions between information, and even misinformation can be used to indicate what is true. So thank you for informing Nintendo Forecast.

I mentioned that a credible source - a Switch game developer no less - said that backward compatibility is "not as easy as might be assumed" . That's (a) not "wrong information" (it's objectively true he made this video) and (b) as worded, I'm not even saying it was "hard", just not a doddle. It's impossible to say for sure without knowing the architecture of the new system (which may be rumoured but is far from confirmed) whether offering backward compatibility was a difficult or easy matter for them. Apart from that, you make interesting points.

They opened my eyes to what’s is involved for game development. I also leaned more often then not, there is good devs who are skilled veterans, and there is devs/Studios who are very Lazy, and/or very under skilled. And their is devs who are scam artists. Like the day before. As said. Nintendo is staying with similar ARM architecture and same family of gpus which Nvidia RTX 3xxx. Switch was on GTX 9xx (Maxwell) and it was already very old when switch came out. Nintendo was supposed to go with newer pascal (GTX 1xxx) when switch came out, but for what ever reason, maybe cost. They went with cheaper GTX 900 gpu. This time. As is only rumour. We Believe going with bit more powerful ARM cpu (T239??) and custom version of ampere RTX 3xxx. Coding for either should be too hard. Not saying it’s easy. But compares of Nintendo switch AMD zen 3/RDNA3+. Would be a heck a lot harder.

I feel like Pokemon Virtual Console has the power to sell consoles - especially for nostalgic fans that may just need that final push to finally make the purchase

Isn't it obvious why Nintendo confirmed backwards compatibility with Switch 2? Nintendo doesn't want to discourage Switch owners from buying games during the Holiday shopping season for fear it won't be supported on Switch 2, which is right around the corner. I've also watched MVG's video on BC on Switch 2 and I'll cut him some slack considering it's nearly a year old and we have far more informationto go on regarding Switch 2. The SOC in Switch 2 was finalized over 2 YEARS ago and the recent leaks have surprised no one. The new Tegra SOC is an iteration of the SOC in Switch, with a GPU architecture that includes an Amphere & Lovelace hybrid architecture. NVN2 is an iteration of NVN. This is likely why nVidia was chosen over AMD for Switch 2 SOC. The iterative HW/SW design provides Nintendo with enormous flexibility to support Switch 1 games on Switch 2. Is there work involved to provide BC on Switch 2? Of course, but there's far more work involved with developing a brand new title for a new console. Nintendo could provide training to allow devs to automate much of the required work to patch existing titles, allowing devs without NEW titles to position old titles for a new Switch 2, perhaps with improved graphics courtesy of new GPU. I feel far too much focus has been placed on BC for Switch 1. Nintendo clearly intends to continue offering Switch 1 alongside Switch 2 consoles. Nintendo has also offered BC in past consoles & handhelds. Providing BC between Switch generations will far, far easy than previous systems that had very different SOCs. Is Nintendo claims they're offering it, its a done deal, albeit with a few caveats in the small print.
