Great video. Hi from Belarus bee's forests! I have a question about the color of hives. Some hives are the natural wood color and some are painted white. Is there and advantage to painting a have white?

note: Paint is on the Outside of the hive. The Paint is there to provided added protection for the wood, from the elements. White , blue, or Yellow, I do not think it makes a difference.

Actually,before it was known that the bees are guided by the queens scent,Slovenian beekeepers were painting hives to help the bees find the right one and that tradition is still alive...otherwise any paint or other kind of protection for the wood will expand the lifetime of a hive.

nice Steve... can the bees escape from the dados cut for the plastic ears? What about the queen excluder? Can the bees move up around the excluder once the six expansion frames are installed? Last question, the frame proportions and sizes... did you stay with AZ dimension or are they langstroth deep frames without the ears?

I have small pieces that block the bees from exiting the dado's, The excluder can be placed in 24 frame mode between the two levels. and in 30 frame mode between the front and the rear These frames are designed to use Lang Deep foundation.

What's the benefit of this style hive verses the standard langstroth ? From what I've seen this hive is perfect with a bee-house.

Expanded into 30 frame configuration you show, how do you seal the bottom of the screens?

A queen excluder can be placed between the two levels in the 24 frame configuration. Or it can be placed between the front 24 frames and the rear frames in the 30 frame configuration.
