In Slovenian language there are two different words to describe when a living thing dies. One is used for when a human dies ("umreti") and the other for animals ("poginiti"). The bee is the only animal for which the human form is used.

Used to be a great bee keeping culture in Wales. Sad it has been more or less lost inside modern day Western cuture. Monestries were famous for it, especially.

There was a Slovene that travelled up to the UK to try and save the British local black bees in the 19th century. If I remember the name will be sure to give you another comment with it. He did learn quite a bit from your bee keeping as well as thought our methods, so there was an exchange of practices.

Now I understand why a relative sent us home from Slovenia with liquor made from honey, instead of the slivovitz I was expecting! I'm well aware of the Slovenians' relationship with plums, but I wasn't aware of their special relationship with bees!

Slivovitz and plums are further south. In Slovenia you have other types of Schnaps. Like Honey brandy, Apple and Pear brandy, Juniper brandy, Grappa, Gin, Brandy brandy, Apricot brandy, Walnut brandy. Slivovitz is more popular in Bosnia and down south.

A noticeable amount of moment to moment banter got lost in the SLO->EN translation, as the subtitles seem to be more of a translated summary instead of translating what was actually said.

@@artetvdocumentary Honestly, there is so many, that what you ask for is impossible in a youtube comment. The mistakes are constant. Not just mistakes it's, like said above, more like a summary and not direct translations. It's sad because some things would be better understood with correct translations. I suggest you find a slovenian translator, because the whole documentary needs needs it.❤

Now you take beekeeping to the next level and begin selecting for high varroa resistant local stock that dont need treatments to thrive? Eliminating artificial diets or lowering dependence on them is a real gamechanger too... Swarm catching with bait hives here in the US very popular and a great way to aquire these type of genetics for free. Happy beekeeping!

Huge respect for standing up to the HUGE chemical companies and banning their use. That will NEVER happen in North America, just like the pharmaceutical companies, they are too powerful and rule our government. If your big enough, rich enough and will stoop to below the bottom, you can rule an entire country. THAT is the real North America, South America as well. I have no idea why people seem to think are governments are that corrupt, but they clearly are.

😮Europe imports honey from China and Turkey for 2 euros each... I don't know how they will introduce pollination
@willbass28699 ай бұрын
Chinese "honey" isn't. The world's largest case of food adulteration on record. They use corn syrup, fructose almost anything except fully seasoned/capped honey. The even extract uncapped nectar from the comb and use dryers to reduce moisture down to honey levels (14%?) Chinese were caught multiple times selling HUGE amounts of adulterated "honey". Sanctions were imposed. Chinese then transshipped the honey to other countries and put that country as the source. International expert uncovered the fraud by analyzing the bits of pollen in the honey & determined it was Chinese. Then the Chinese fraudsters processed the "honey" by using very sophisticated membrane filters that remove 99% of pollen thus making it impossible to determine source or composition. Please, NEVER buy imported honey (sorry, even most NZ Manuka honey is fake😢). Support your local beekeepers and lobby local restaurants/bakeries to do the same. Signed, off & on Texas beekeeper

Luckily for the EU beekepers this is changing as the new legislation will come intp force soon to trace the country of origin and full honey traceability.

I read a news article about that the other day... The numbers were crazy. 60% of all sold honey in Sweden (my country) was imported and 46% of all imported honey was fake according to EUs statistics... The fake stuff is cheap to produce but very unhealthy to consume
@kavbojctinko41315 ай бұрын
Sad but true. Honey can be compared to olive oil. If it's cheap, it's not homemade and high-quality. The normal price at a beekeeper is between 12 and 16 EUR per liter, depending on the type of honey. It is even more expensive in the store.
