Hey guys, I might be able to help with the front tire issue, ive had lifted trucks most of my adult life, anytime you raise your truck or widen your stance with wheels you need to adjust your caster and camber. The shims are inexpensive but the install is whatll get you. The wheel isn't balanced correctly, those wheels and tires have to be roadforce balanced, I'd take your truck to an offroad specialist company and have them do it for you and ask them to realign your front end. Your generic tire and wheel guys prolly aren't going to know all the ins and outs of this setup. One last thing to consider, I would highly recommend you getting some airbags to level out your truck if you have too much weight in the bed it might be slightly lifting your front end up causing your suspension to compensate, and start chopping the outside, that can be dangerous. Hope that helps, thanks for the videos.

Holy moly! That's one spicy meatsaball. I drove an 18 wheel truck for about three weeks and the first thing they tell you is 'don't back up.' What do you end up doing ever day? Backing up to a dock. You folks made that look really easy.

My oldest sister and her husband have been camping since the early 1970's. They spent most of the 70's & 80's full time. In the last few years my wife & I have started camping with our 3 year old daughter. This summer we spent 6 weeks on the road in PA, NY then OH before going back to NC. Carl, I drove 28, 40,45 and 53 foot trailers in door town LA and South Bay CA for 28 years and have had a 5th wheel the last 40 years and have never had an accident. The key is always take your turns as wide as possible and remember when turning and backing in, the turning ratio is based off the rear axle, not so much the back of the trailer.

Live in the PNW, backing rv’s over 50 years now. Without a doubt the toughest places I’ve ever encountered were in the upper east. I was 34’ and assigned a 30’ spot with two large trees on each side of the opening and an oversized vehicle to my 11:00. Numerous stabs at it and couldn’t do it w/o potential damage. Another time, similar situation. I got it in first attempt with an audience in the grassy area at my 12:00 in lawn chairs placing bets I couldn’t. They applauded me afterwards. Grocery store parking lots are the worst though.

The uneven tire wear on the rear RV axle is normal. Remember, you are pulling a tandem axle trailer where the axles are very close to each other. During turns the rear axle is dragged by the front RV axle into the turns, especially so if the RV sits a bit high on the 5th wheel hitch putting slightly more pressure on the rear RV axle. Rotating the tires helps expand tire tread life. As for the right front truck tire. That is also normal. It is not indicative of a wheel alignment problem. You live full time in your RV and your truck does more towing miles than non-towing miles. This means that a significant amount of your tire life spent during towing and this is causing the right front tire to see more load due to the way the engine/torque pulls on the frame, lifting up the front end of the truck. This twist action from the engine/transmission/truck drive axle results in an unloaded left front tire as more down force is applied to the right front tire. If you watch drag race videos on youtube, you can see the very pronounced action as the car launches from the starting line. The same happens to a truck while pulling heavy loads. If you do this constantly, you'll see uneven wear over time. You can try rotating your tires to help even out the wear, not just front to rear, but side to side to help get the most out of your tire life.
@HappilyEverHanks4 ай бұрын

Well done! We took a 2 month - 17 state trip through the East Coast earlier this year and loved it. We’ve learned the key is booking ahead of time as much as possible. Save time, money, and STRESS!!! So fun to watch you guys in the same area we were just camping in late August/early September. For the toll roads and bridges we have the EZ Pass transponder which supposedly ensures that you pay the lowest toll you qualify for. We did encounter toll locations where the transponder for some reason didn't register. Got a "toll violation" in the mail from NJ today where our transponder didn't read at the Ben Franklin Bridge. At least with the EZ Pass we should be able to dispute the additional charges above the actual toll. For directions we have been using mostly Waze but did hop on a free trial of RV Life for a bit of the trip. However, RV Life suffers from apparently not having any road closures included in its database.

We did the same thing. Long story short, we found many things on our brand new GD camper that needed repair before we could use it full time. Not uncommon. Therefore, I highly recommend that you rent a truck for a week and do a shakedown trip to really make sure all is well. If it has to be in the shop after you sell your house, you will literally be homeless. Possibly for weeks. Even if all goes well, you will have a better idea of what you want in a truck. And you will be much better prepared. We used enterprise truck rental (separate from the car rental) for about 100$ a day. The depreciation on a new truck is much more than that. Just not sure about the 5th wheel hitch situation. We have a trailer.

So we’ve only been out since April & the worse tight spot was one where we got out to look & I asked if we could transfer our reservation to another campground. 13’ between two large poplars, narrow access road (we were brushing up against bushes on its border, a signpost right where the long box Ram 3500 would swing into. Hubs tried, we didn’t divorce, cut our loss & tried another one. Nope. Tried a different loop and found one we fit. Our fiver is only 30’…I said nothing bigger than a teardrop fits loop A. The next campground had two trees on either side & I had a mini anxiety attack! A retired semi driver popped it in like no own’s business. Hubs was just at that point at looks Lou’s & their suggestions that he said “you want to do it? Go ahead!” The guy gave us tips for future back ins. I’ve never backed it in, actually haven’t driven with it so I do know what he needs. Though this last one I did mention that he pulled forward far enough to make the turn. I went back & took photos of that first spot! It was unreal how close the bushes & trees were to the road.

Its always great to watch you guys I didn't realize the tight roads and small campgrounds as I am form the north east and this is where we camp all the time just took it as this is how it is. We have a 35 foot trailer on a long bed Chevy and struggle with the size all the time but never realize that it is more of a north east thing.

@HappilyEverHanks btw next time you are on a verified level surface, get a level next to that tire that's wearing and measure at the top then the bottom, I believe that your axle is slightly bent

Great job on that backing in!! I have a class A, and I would have had a real struggle with the way that site was laid out in relation to the road. Put a trailer onto the backend, too, and I would have been sweating, too!! My best advice for anyone going to RV in New England is to camp in the country and drive into the cities/ attraction with a subcompact car (rent one if you need to!) You face the same issues in the New England region as you do in the UK. Historical buildings bisected by historical cow paths that have pavement on top of them (but no widening.) 😂

Thanks so much! That backing was definitely a challenge. Love your advice about camping in the country and renting a small car for the cities - such a great way to avoid stress. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! ❤️

Great video this week. We got into a tight squeeze in a parking garage in Santa Fe. My husband was more confident that I was. But no more garages for the truck!

Check your balance on your tires as well. Bf Goodrich tire are notoriously out of round. Have them road force balanced.

Yes no doubt there are some tight back ins from time to time. You did what in my opinion is the three most important things though. First you pulled up and stopped and got out and really analyzed everything...from ground level, to branches and anything else that could potentially be an obstacle. Second thing was communicate well between you. We always use walkie talkies or cell phone so we can hear each other, and also very importantly you got out part way through and analyzed it again. It is great having a spotter, but every now and then the driver just has to see the situation for his or herself. Yes sometimes, someone needs to move a vehicle or someone needs to be patient a couple of minutes while we get in, but so be it. Getting in without any damage is key, even if it takes 5 or 10 minutes to be sure. Continued safe travels...
@HappilyEverHanks4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful advice, Shawn! We completely agree-taking the time to stop, check, and communicate is key. Patience definitely pays off. Appreciate your insight and well wishes! Safe travels to you too 😊

Kyle, you did that in one try. You looked like a pro and made it look easy. If i can park an F250 extended in their parking lots you can get yours in there. Make sure to do the freedom trail.

From a retired trucker you nailed the back in.
@dragon010119834 ай бұрын
I'd recommend a trucker gps from garmin. You can enter your total vehicle height, and it will avoid any bridges lower than your total height. It will also avoid any highways and roads that tractor trailers can't be on. You can also change it to car mode if you want so it stops avoidances.
@HappilyEverHanks4 ай бұрын
Great recommendation! A trucker GPS from Garmin sounds like a solid solution for avoiding those low bridges. Thanks for sharing the tip and for watching our videos!

Great to see you guys in NE! It is harder to find sites since COVID. More people on the road now. We ended up buying our own land to make a campsite in Littleton NH. We put it on Hipcamp so others can use it when we’re not there. We have also successfully used Hipcamp when we couldn’t find a spot in other parts of NE. Safe travels!
