Did you even watch the movie? Because if you had, then you'd completely understand why it's called Anonymous...You don't even have to look up Shakespeare if you watch even the first five minutes of the friggen' movie! It explains it all right there!

Vanessa Redgrave as Elizabeth I was absolutely spectacular in this film. Was it an accurate depiction of her? not really, but obviously it wasn't supposed to be. I mean, the film wasn't accurate, it's entertainment.

@desitone Exactly! Its called anonymous because in literature that is the word used when an author is unknown; anon or anonymous. Therefore the point of the title is that really the plays are not by Shakespeare but by someone 'anonymous'. Why would they call the movie Shakespeare?

That is really interesting. Especially since now you mention it, I know a Rapper who claimed that Shakespeare had many nicknames and dagger was one of them so this Rapper calls himself Daggz. Maybe, being a nobleman, Shakespeare was in it for the art and not the money so he was Happy for somebody else to get the credit. you just gave me a good reason to look into this.

Not everyone belives that Shakespeare actually wrote his plays. Most people think he never even existed, and that a nobleman created the name "William Shakespeare" for the sole purpose of having his plays published without losing his title. And in the movie, they take the approach of the Earl of Oxford being the nobleman who created the plays and had a playwright publish them under the name "Anonymous" so that no one actually got credit for his work, but a man named Shakespeare took credit

Are you using the older definition of hacker/hack that came from the students at MIT and is still used by hardware/software hobbyists or the newer mainstream definition that extremely restricts the word to a single function? I think this looks interesting as far as using one of the possible hypothesis for who wrote all of those plays. Though Shakespeare indeed could have written them himself considering the knowledge of his social class. We were going over the possibilities in a class and if you note actual studies he would have taken as a child by the church it wouldn't be a stretch. I'm interested though in seeing Shakespeare portrayed as a fraud. XD Heehee the anonymous and sony
