In spite of a dry acoustic, the Aeolian-Skinner organ at Riverside is a glorious instrument. The later acoustical work greatly improves it's sound but it was always a wonder, especially its many softer stops. And Virgil Fox will be remembered when his critics are long forgotten.

Thanks for posting. I had forgotten how dry (acoustically) these old Riverside recordings were. Superb playing by Virgil, as usual, but the mic(s) must have been placed directly in front of the organ chambers. No sense of the room at all -- although, there wasn't much reverb @ Riverside to get a sense of back in the day.

This is a very nice organ, but seems to be somewhat forgotten. Just lately I am seeing more recordings on the Riverside Church Organ in NYC being posted here. The organ could use one more 32' Pedal in it.

In the stereophonic recordings made by Capitol in the 1950/60s one will receive all of the bass life has to offer on a real system. KZbin is great but not sonically. Try to get a old of the LP or the CD for the better effect.
