This is the kind of thing that started alot of us down the machining path. So satisfying to repair something instead of replacing it.

Oh man, we have so much that goes to scrap that could be fixed with some time and tinkering. In many parts of the world they don't have the option, so they DO repair those things.

Thanks, we just do what we have to with what's available to us. And, even though it isn't pretty, it works. I've done quite a few like this and the only big difference with this one is that the knee can move rather than having to raise the head and realign it like was needed with the mill drill.

I sure hate to see a good usable part go to the shredder Everett .. I had that happen on dodge A/C condenser units . A little machine work and some fittings and it's better than new .. AWESOME job .. Glad to see you up and going in the new place .. ENJOYED !! ..
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shawn! I can see how the average person doesn't want to spend the time at a machine shop for some car parts when a machine shop is just as much per hour as a mechanics shop. But, if one has the technology to do it in a cost-effective manner, I still think repair is better than replacement.

Good to see your shop again! Hey are you concerned about corrosion between the brass and aluminum? Or did I miss that?
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom! No, not worried about corrosion between the brass and aluminum, nor between the brass and steel lines. The issue is the corrosion of the steel line fittings to the aluminum fittings on the cooler. Earlier units already had brass, and we never had any trouble with them.

Your torque converter cooler is a different style - it is a cylindrical steel unit, and doesn't have this same issue of thread twisting.

Hey Everett good repair i have a 2nd gen dodge has a fin cooler . do you think the heat exchange works better for removing heat ? they would be better in cold climates .do you know what they went to in 08 and later . good to see you back . JM I have a Taiwan mill i use a VFD to get 3ph power and having the ability to change motor speed is nice .
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
The RFE-series transmissions used on the 6.7's don't have a torque converter cooler lile the 48RE's on the 5.9's, just the heat exchangers up front near the radiator. There are advantages and disadvantages to having the torque converter cooler in the system, but your 2nd Gen truck should have a torque converter cooler (oil-to-water) as well, but it's a different style, looking cylindrical and steel. It would not have the same fitting damage problems as these aluminum ones do.
