The worst aspect of Ninja gear isn't even the weird designation of it's gearsets. It's the fact that 99.9% of Ninja-compatible gear doesn't actually look like Ninja gear. Most of the time, you'll look like a shitty pirate in a DreamWorks film.

Something you didn't mention about getting tomestones is hunt trains which allow you to acquire revelation & allegory tomestones way faster than level 80 content or roulettes do.

@@OrangeMelon419 a clearer gear progression would be: Don’t give a fuck about gear until max level, then start with buying Exarchic gear (which is on the market board, item level 510) Then buy cryptlurker gear (ilvl 520) with tomestone s of revelation (which have a weekly limit of 900, so it’ll take a few weeks to get a full set) While you grind out revelation, do Nier raids for coins that are given once per raid, that let you upgrade cryptlurker to augmented cryptlurker (item level 530) Savage raid gear is also level 530, and lets you only get one piece per week. So choose to do that, or not, depending on how far you wanna take it For your best in slot ilvl 535 main hand weapon, you have to do the Bozjan Southern Front instance and quests and do a big grind thru several stages of upgrades.

Extra caveat about ARR and HW recommended gear for tanks: The game will ALWAYS prioritize the VIT stat for tanks and accessories do NOT have job restrictions until Stormblood. That means that if you have level 60 poetics gear for WHM for example and you unlock GNB, pressing the recommended gear button WILL equip healer accessories by default unelss you also happen to have tank/melee DPS accessories of the same ilvl. That means that while yes, you'll have more HP, you'll also hit like a wet noodle and instantly lose aggro to anyone with half a brain because you won't have any STR to make your skills scale.

Holy shit okay that really cleared some things up for me, because playing tank I was always confused about why the auto-gear made me put on the DPS gear, even though it's a higher ilvl than the tank gear with more defense. I just assumed it must be better, so that's a super helpful niche tip. Thank you!

They got rid of the unique modifier on old poetics rings in 5.3 when they got rid of the un-augmented versions of poetics gear, so you can just equip two now. It used to be that you'd just buy one augmented and and one unaugmented.

Luckily, you have a pretty chill time ahead of your for your first foray into endgame. ilvl 520 gear on demand, alliance raid drops if you're gil-starved, and farmable savages with the echo. Only really sweaty content left is Bozja and the relic, and even that's been nerfed somewhat. You could easily assemble BiS before Endwalker just by casually progressing.

Speaking of ARR tanks having to watch their gear, some tank weapon coffers for GLA/PLD will give you a Conjurer shield instead of a level-appropriate tank shield. I've submitted this as a bug report but it's not likely to be fixed anytime soon, if ever.

Even though ilvl cap is 530, having Exarchic/Edenmete is perfectly viable to clear any sort of content in game at this point. I strongly recommend Edenmete as an alternative gearing option to gear up for your other jobs assuming you can run Eden's Promise Normal.

Gear is so streamlined in FF14 that it can seem boring, but it's whatever. I'd rather have something like this, than some items that are stupid broken or completely useless like in Vanilla. The interesting part of gear in FF14 is how it looks. That way, all the gear actually has uses outside being the best in slot in current content. I like it.

How do you afford the overmelded crafted gear week 1? As a new player who has less than 1mil gil and not a single crafter leveled, I don't think I'll ever be able to afford that, but I still want to clear savage as fast as possible. That's kind of meeehhh

If you mean to buy gear premelded, dont. If you mean to buy the gear and meld it yourself, meld the 2 guaranteed slots with the best materia and then use cheap old materia for 3rd-5th. (I.e. Melding 2 grade 8s for 2 +60 materia on guaranteed and the a Grade 6 which is +40 then 2 grade 5s.) If you cant afford to buy all the gear, try and join a static (most statics have crafters) just give them your tombstones as compensation for crafting you some pieces. If not then: Remember Normal mode is out for 3 weeks before savage, so you have 3 weeks to get normal mode gear. Normal mode gear only has 2/1 meld slots so you dont have to worry about overmelding and buying a fullset. Prog sets are usually normal gear + crafted, so just figure to figure out the appropriate substats for your job and base your gear planning around that to decide what piece you'll need that are crafted and which you'll need from normal mode. Also you dont "need" to have overmelds, they can help a decent amount but dont stress over it, just meld the guaranteed slots with your best Materia and you should be fine. Edit: DPS checks for the first 2 fights are not hard so you really shouldn't need to stress about overmelding. Over melding really only matters for the last 2 fights but at that point you should have 1, maybe 2, savage raid pieces + a tome piece.

Buying premelded gear is only for the sweatiest of raidlords who hit gil cap back in ARR or HW. If you have leveled crafters (not even geared ones, just ones high enough level to meld materia), then you can just do hunt trains casually in the weeks leading up to a new raid tier, trade the clusters that drop from A rank hunts for materia, and then pentameld the gear yourself. If you do hunt trains consistently for a month or two, you'll likely have enough materia to last you an entire expansion.

Earning Gil isn't heavily reliant on having all crafters maxed out, especially not right now. The easiest ways to earn money are to send out your retainers on Quick Explorations, and sell what they bring back if it's worth anything. Venture Coffers turn into "rare" dyes, and Jet Black and Pure White sell for 300k to 500k per pot. Some gear or housing items they bring back will also sell for a lot. If you level your gatherers to 80, you can get a map once a day that sells for 30k to 50k. Daily roulettes give substantial amounts of Gil if you do them each day for a good period of time (and being the Job in Need helps). Having your crafters maxed/being the right specialist will let you make a fair chunk of Gil when new raid tier patches release by crafting and selling the new sets, plus making and selling any new Primal weapons that are added, but even this will be limited to probably around 5 to 10 million unless you *really* like playing the marketboard and fighting with people who seem to do nothing but craft and gather. Even then, most of your Gil will not be made on huge sales, it will be made on lots of little sales.

So question as a new player, if with each new raid tier the normal raid gear is at least slightly higher ilvl, what becomes the point of doing hard content only for it to be washed away the next tier? is it just bragging points or do people wait till something is X Ilvls better before they get rid of old gear, I could just be underestimating how long you have between raids so getting the BiS of the current patch could very well last you quite some time till the next one?

There’s a few reasons to getting best in slot. As mentioned in the video, there’s Ultimate raids where best in slot is a requirement, unlike in savage where you only need crafted gear to clear. Additionally, best in slot generally makes everything easier and go faster. Though it doesn’t matter much in normal content, it helps a lot with extreme and savage, especially if you’re farming it. Lastly, item level is generally increased every two patches when new raids come out, so best in slot will usually last you about six months.

@@Longlius rip`my dude, i hope you are not from aether, pf there has a retarded way to do ice slides that goes flows very differently than every other coordinated mechanic in previous fights, it takes a long time to get used to, and lion they prefer doing line lions which by doing that is the root of the problem of getting wrong the shiva slides xD. also pf has the brain of a peanut so its very difficult for them tell which is east and west.
