I had a horse who went after our dog and struck the back of my neck with his front hooves. It crushed 2 vertebrae in my neck and it was a serious injury. I couldn't ride for almost 2 years even years later it still affect's me. . He was safer to be on top of than walk next to him. There's nothing wrong with checking horses with a lead snap to get their attention. Some horses will mow thru you and never learned ground manners. Untrained horses are dangerous. Shame on their old owners for not doing right by them and dumping them on others. People who complain about Pony Tale's channel taking in untrained horses are the one who never do right for animals. Just armchair bullying. We won't miss you on your way out.

I learned at a young age, 11 yrs old, that new animals are VERY nervous around new people. Not just horses either....I totally understand time is a short commodity with rescues. Im not gonna bash these young ladies for the yanking of the lead rope as my mom and sister have done this to get the horses attention. Even I've had to....That lesson I learned was from a 2 yr old Arab gelding. I was so excited for my new horse and I didn't listen to my parents about letting him decompress before I handled him. He stepped on my big toe with all his weight, about 1,000 lbs of young horse. Of course I didn't want to tell my parents 😅 but i had blood building up under that nail! Hours later I finally told them because of immense pain. I didn't know how to take care of it 🤷♀️. Since then, I dont push any rescues. I even have deer come up to me and smell me....mom was grazing and her 2 fawns were nibbling on my hair! Yes, get their attention when needed but not constantly yanking. Im a farm girl, was a vet tech and a CNA. Was able to get people and animals to do what I needed to do without problems or fuss. I love what you guys do for these horses and wish I could still help those that need help. Thank you for doing what you do!

This comment section is awful. Equine community being toxic as hell as usual it would seem. Firstly, I'd rather see them yanking those horses heads then either of the two girls getting trampled by those ill mannered horses. Secondly, they took in these horses from owners who failed them. These horses are around 20ish years old and none of them have manners. Thirdly, people moaning about how stressed the horses are, why don't you moan to the previous owners who should of done right by these horses and put them down, instead of transporting them to a new please and making them someone else's problem. These girl are doing a hard job, that takes a lot out of you physically and mentally when you are surrounded by horses who have been abused, neglected and that are suffering, it takes a toll. You guys being nasty to them only makes things worse and harder for everyone. Could they have handled the situation differently, yes they probably could have but when its in the moment and you have a lot of horses to see and limited time with the vet, that way of thinking goes out the window. But did they hurt the horses? NO they did not. If they did do you really think the vet would just stand there and let it happen? To those who suggest personal trainer's or being more like horse plus... For them to hire trainer's and vets to stay on site 24/7 that would cost a lot of money. Also the two new trainers left because of hateful comments. Funny that, why am I not surprised, when rescues get more hate thrown at them then the animal abusers do. Anyways, this rescue is isn't as big as horse plus and dose not get near as much funding to be able to do that. They have to book there vets like everyone else. This means they don't have the luxury like horse plus to treat or put animals down straight away. They have to book these appointments just like everyone else. However this could be avoid if people were not so crap and just put there animals down themselves instead of getting rescues to do it for them. Stop being blinded by what others can do and just respect what they can do. At least they are doing something when most would turn a blind eye and and just send them to slaughter and let them die a horrible death in Mexico. Unsubscribe if you want to, but keep it to yourselves as others who give a damn about these animals and this rescue could not care less what YOU DO! Pony tails if you read this comment, if the two girls who have been singled out by everyone else read this comment, please understand that I for one think your doing and amazing job. Don't let there negativity set you back, let it push you forwarded into becoming even better. Try to learn new technics to use with ill manner horses, to make things better for them and to keep yourselves safe. Remember to stay calm even if things get frustrating, which they will. You guys have hearts of gold and we need more people like you. Keep your chins up as you do have real supporters out there behind you!

I have watched Pony Tales since before you connected to HP. I haven't seen any of you be "mean" including the last episode with all the "drafties". The "yanking" was not mean nor violent' it just gets their attention, if this is done with only a halter it is not abusive, when other special halters that have chin chains or other alterations to pinch them, then its not the best, but some horses one cannot "fool" around with as they will just walk all over you no pun intended.

I wonder if having a confinded area like continuing the scale fence would help them be calmer. Is that possible as it would be calmer for horses and safer for staff and professionals
@PurdueAlum0115 күн бұрын
They are raising funds for a quarantine vet stock, the kind with a metal plate front and back and one simple bar on the sides like they have in the main barn. In theory that allows some support and confinement while also allowing vet access without someone holding on to a nervous horse in an open space. That should improve things with the volunteer staff... although it would be good to see Cindy and Rae (& Brooke) educate others on some calm handling and holding techniques, and do some training on how best to get new, recently unhandled horses to get thru vet visits... The staffers might need to work with them a time or two before vet day... or let a more experienced person do the holding. Docs don't usually do much instruction but I think in a shelter situation it would be okay to set expectations of handlers and get improvements on that. It's not about getting them off camera as many comments are saying, would rather have them educated and learning some better and also easier ways. These aren't trained, accustomed horses from a lesson barn that are just being sassy, these are, well, a big variety... some unhandled, some auction trauma, some breed issues, some under trained or who have been twitched or sedated... too much bad history and need a firm and steady hand... and maybe time and ground training. Not rewarding bad behavior but wonder if a lick would help some stand still for actual vetting, before bad behavior came about. Then also maybe let them be walked about before the vet visit as they wait in lineup, get some wiggles out before having to stand. Some will just be obstinate or sassy...but some things can be put into place to better the situation and to educate the volunteers that aren't quite handling right, in the moment, in the situation. They can learn!

While I have admired your efforts to save horses, I believe you need to step back a bit and really look at what you are doing and how. I 've never seen you bring in new horses and jerk them around by the head before. The people doing that need to be removed from handling the horses and properly trained. They are teaching the horses to be head shy, skittish, and untrusting, and poddibly dangerous to themselves and others. There are good trainers out there who have videos how to work with problem horses.
@anndeveaux710816 күн бұрын
Having trained mustangs and troubled horses, I see zero sense in staff members jerking hard on the lead rope when a horse is stressed. I understand setting boundaries for space, but clearly that isn't productive. Check into Ryan Rose for horse training. His techniques work and worth with the horses natural instincts. I wish you all the best.
@emilydoesit838316 күн бұрын
100% agree. They definitely need to be coached not to do that. Just going to make them potentially head shy and also not letting them decompress in a stressful situation. I love what they do for horses and they save a lot of horses that others would euthanize. But I’ve seen some rough handling from few people.

I don’t think the girl in pink hat was doing anything mean except to get the horse attention. All those horses came from the same place and were use to handling. They were excited as it’s a new place. I don’t think it was mean. You really need a stock out there as there is too much movement for the vet who was great getting blood as they were moving around. Everyone should remember horses love to checkout how much they can get away with and these ladies are trying there best to keep them under control without getting hurt.
@pentagramfairy142015 күн бұрын
I dont think people in the comments understand that they usually dont have the luxery to propperly train a horse before getting seen by the vet and farrier. These horses are untrained resques that need to see the vet or farrier as soon as possible. Ofcourse it would be ideal to take our time to make sure no tugging is needed but that is just not the case. Even though the vets and the farier are super patient, they have other work that day to need to get on with. Also horses can end you in a hearthbeat. So sometimes people tug the halter to stay safe. I think at most it made the horses annoyed but it didnt hurt them. Please understand that its difficult and very dangerous to vet check these horses and that the staff is trying to keep themselfs and the surrounding people and animals safe. It might not be how you would have done it but you werent the one standing there being tossed around by an animal 10 times your own weight. I dont think the staff acted out of line here.

I have to admit that Dr. Kristin is a fave of mine. Looks like ya'll have your hands full of late. Thank goodness Hailey seems to be staying and she is all around good at most things, like I say, I feel worried for staff burnout and not just you guys or HP but so many rescues might be trying to do too much. It is better in my mind to have some rescues that can be helped medically or with training issues and then be adoptable, but the really old guys and gals with longstanding issues and cannot be ridden, too many of those will be overlooked by potential adopters. It's not easy doing what you guys are doing .just be a bit more proactive in making sure the right handlers are involved
@PetraVandeLangkruis15 күн бұрын
I do agree that the handling of the new horses was not the best, maybe in future keep the companion of the horse close by so they can see eachother. Make sure that the taller and/or stronger persons handle the big horses. The ladies defenately need to learn more about handling nervous horses, especially the young girl. My favorite handlers are Brook, Rae and Cindy herself. Teach the horses and the handlers and respect the horse you are handling. Most of the time you don't know what they have been through before arriving and the shelter, there are better ways to teach a horse to respect boundaries. Thank you for saving and caring for the horses. I am definitely NOT leaving the channel. ❤

Thank you for sticking around! However, these animals are large. Regardless of what they have been through, if we let them act like that, someone gets hurt. Our strength is nothing compared to theirs so if tugging on the halter/rope a little harder than usual gets them to listen, so be it. Clearly, it didn't work so it couldn't have caused much irritation to them. A firm hand is needed for animals of their size who lack manners.

You know Tawnee has worked with pony tails? Horse plus is the reason the main barn even got built as they donated money to PT and Cindy and Nate went to stay with HP. Tawnee has also been kicked at least twice in the same leg by auction rescues!

Look at some some of the top trainers, they use various methods including a quick and instant pop two or three times as instant correction. A couple small pops is less than a herd mates bite or kicks as correction. It wasnt great head wrenching yanks. Educated yourselves.

It’s great work what they’re doing there. Thank you for that. But the girl and lady in pink that are yanking on the halter every time don’t belong there in my opinion.

Please for the love of god seek a professional trainer who has with rescue horses to teach you how to handle rescue horses. The girl with the pink hat …I’m sorry but yanking on the horses face like that will only end in injury to horse and handler and everyone around you. Yes the horses are anxious and scared as they are in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people so it is understandable they jump around. Also move all the stuff laying on the floor, having wheels and timber on the ground is a good way to see a scared horse get a hoof stuck. Your vets need to be able to examine the horses in a clean safe environment for everyone including the horses. Sorry not meaning to be negative but it has to be said. I admire the effort you put into to these horses, there is always room for improvement for all of us.

I'm with this. The hand wiping is kinda funny but yeah, If the animal isn't respecting you (walking all over the handler), I doubt the yanking will improve relations. Jus sayin

I suggest you go watch Steve young’s channel he’ll give you the what’s up about on how the “yanking “ is to make sure the horse respects your space. Besides you really are delusional if you think a 140lb (if that) young lady can hurt a 1200lb horse

I have looked forward to your content over the last year. Streamed with you guys, countless times. Sadly, the last two episodes, there have been too many unprofessional and unnecessary incidents from the handlers. I unsubscribed. Very disappointed. Pony tales i wish you the best, i respect what your doing but i wish you'd vetted your volunteers better. Super amateur handling.

You guys bring these poor horses in and just yank them around... Many are already scared and miss treated so i dont see how this is helping.. On top of if all most of them have issues that greatly affect their quaily of life... Wish you didnt take so long to offer these horses the peace they deserve.. That last act of kindness really is kind.. Whatever you guys are doing is not.. theres just to much ignorance going on.. Maybe take a few tips from Horse Plus....

They were part of the horse plus boot camp thing I believe, thats how I found this channel, when they reached out to a bunch of rescues and helped train them in rescue, social media, and I thought better horse care but based off these 2 young women, I think they need a boot camp again.

@nytashaandersen They did but its clear none of the info stuck... Think they may need a little more then boot camp sadly.

I don't think it's the whole group of people here it seems to be just the two young handlers but I agree someone else should have advised them not to be doing the that and taken over
@nytashaandersen15 күн бұрын
It's sad to see how 2 young woman caused such a loss to the rescue and channel, this is horrible, watching the horses being jerked around when they are already nervous, those women should not be allowed back at the rescue. Horses learn from the release of pressure, not whatever this was. They should have kept pushing back until the horse moved it's feet the correct way.
