Make the switch. You'll be happier overall. Big influencers and dealers need to start the movement to induce CGC to make the necessary changes. They act like a monopoly and deserve all they are getting from the community.

I believe the “shipping” damage statement is damage that occurs getting to them. They should take pictures of received books or at least the box. I had a similar issue in the past and I know I package them as if I was shipping the US constitution.

Exactly. If it was shipping damage you could use the pics to get insurance from the carrier. Since they didn't do this they most definitely dropped the books during their grading.

I submitted 20 perfect books to CGC with a 9.6 pre-screen. Only two of them were slabbed at 9.6 while the other 18 were returned with a corner crunch. It obviously happened at CGC, but they refused to admit this and blamed it on USPS. They dodged responsibility so they would not have to reimburse me for the full declared value. After much back and forth, they did offer free pressing and re-grading. I ended up with several 9.8s. But still a number of perfect books were damaged beyond what a pressing could repair. Today I will only use CGC for re-holdering old CGC slabs that I might buy and particularly compelling signature events. The lion's share of any future submissions will be going to CBCS. They didn't need to be perfect. They just needed to be honest. To squeeze the maximum short-term dollars out of me, they sacrificed all of that future business. Plus, I have yet to see a CBCS case with a Newton ring.

Go for it. I use CBCS for most of my stuff. I don't trade grading companies, I trade graded comics, and since they are the top two (dominant force in the market), I deal with what I figure is the more consistent company. I also don't deal with Newton rings. Plus, the new labels are great and the cases are more sturdy. This is my opinion...

Your patience and kindness is more than they deserve, frankly. CGC being polite on the phone is not customer service. Fixing problems to the satisfaction of the customer is customer service. They have no shame. I would die of embarrassment if I dropped someone's book. How is a press going to turn a crunched corner back to a 9.8? It's nonsense.

CBCS also drops comics. The first time a submitted to CBCS was a batch of a handful of comics last year. One of them was Nightwing #100 2nd print. I bought it on new release day and put it into a bag and board without reading it. It came back an 8.5 and had a big crunch on the bottom corner opposite the spine. I know it wasn't damaged in shipping because one comic from the same batch received a 9.8 without pressing.

I will be submitting my books ro CBCS as there cases are amazingly the labels look fantastic now and graders are top of the game unlike CGC poor quality service. That’s my opinion from my experience

I'm not leaving CGC, but will start submitting to CBCS as well. I do believe CBCS is more strict on grading, which is great for buyers. It's possible that sellers would rather submit to CGC and hoping for a higher grade than they deserve. IMHO.

Great video! I've submitted a number of books to CBCS recently and have liked the service, slabs, and new labels. No restored purple label is also a plus for displaying books in my collection. They put Restored and the type of restoration on the blue label without having to look up grader's notes. I featured that in my recent Avengers #4 unboxing if you'd like to see what it looks like.

My 1st and only submissions were at SDCC 2023 last July. What was supposed to be a "40 day" turnaround turned into 4-5 months. Apparently, there was a clerical error which made my account appear to be not mine even though my CC they charged has my name. Then because of this error they were not able to send it. So, after fixing the clerical error they also had to re-press and re-regrade my books. Also, there were several times when they charged me twice for the services they had to redo because of their errors. They gave me credit for future submissions, but honestly I'm going to CBCS.

I have been waiting for my first ever submission of 9 books for 9 months. After 8 months they finally admitted that they had lost my FF 48.Not the whole submission just the most valuable book I had. Now that we know there was theft going on, who knows where it went. They seem not to have a chain of custody or secure work areas or any professional ethos. Its just a shame, I worry for the future of the hobby, We all have to change to CBCS and find out why no body trusts the grading at CBCS and get that changed! Thanks for your call to action.

I love CBCS and I’ve had nothing but great experiences. The downside though, as a comic book store owner and book seller, CGC books command a MUCH higher price. It’s ridiculous and shouldn’t be the case, but it is. I wish CBCS would try and capitalize on all of the recent CGC shenanigans.

I had a similar experience but my books were sent in through a facilitator so I couldn't prove who dropped them. All I got was a bunch of finger pointing. CGC said they received the books smashed, the facilitator claims the books were mint when they sent them. Nothing I could do, and no one was going to accept blame.

Been there done that. In one of my first submissions a book came back with a big ink blob that wasn't there before sending. I sent through a presser and of course, he didn't do it.. and CGC wouldn't even answer my emails. So yeah... not much integrity nowadays.

That's the biggest problem with the idea of ever sending books in for grading! CGC doesn't really guarantee anything! I'm assuming they still have that disclaimer of responsibility that goes hand-in-hand with your submissions. You wiil always be in the position of going through the hassle of contacting them when something goes wrong & doing the extra work to prove what happened before they ultimately make it right, if they feel inclined!

The press won’t do a damaged book any good but they’ll say they tired & blame it on shipping damage. Plus you assume the books are all 9.8 - they’ll never ever never ever (purposely emphasized) give you your est value anyway but they might reimburse you that 7.5 value.

There is nothing more you could have done in my opinion. I understand the CGC label selling for more which I hope changes in the future. I have both CGC and CBCS graded books. I do prefer the CBCS slabs for the quality of their slabs. I collect for my PC so I don't have a bias of CGC over CBCS but CBCS has a great product in my opinion.

I've got a couple of PGX as well. I have never personally submitted raw books, but I need to. I feel the only reason I stick with CGC at this point is for signature witnessing at cons and for their special signings. But as I'm getting deeper in to clean and pressing, I might give CBCS a try. Has anyone done a comparison on each company's grading system? i.e. a CGC 8.5 vs a CBCS 8.5?

I worked retail for 12 years, and would do everything possible to make sure my customers where taken care of. I knew my job was dependent on repeat sales. I mean I think when you play the 9.8 game here, it’s only a matter of time before this thing happens. It shouldn’t ever but the reality is the people initially handling and slabbing the books at CGC are minimum wage workers. Errors a plenty. And to think another company doesn’t have the same things happen is also short minded. You gotta pick your poison…maybe a cbcs switchover will serve a person well for years until they decide to ship your books to someone else who isn’t honest and your $5000 worth of books are gone forever. Not to mention a measly $1000 credit is offered to you for something beyond your control

Try a batch at CBCS, ones you don't want to sell maybe. I've used them and they come back great looking. However I feel they are harsher graders, maybe Harry got a job there! They charge about the same and their Fmv limit is higher. The new labels look nicer too.

Ever since cgc was bought by Blackrock and Jay Z their quality and care has dropped. They also suffer from an insider book trading problem. You would be surprised how many times that the book you sent in was not the one you received back.

It's a bit funny watching this video after I saw something similar earlier this week. I was looking at a book on ebay. It was a more modern book, mid to late 90s, and cgc gave it a 9.0. As I was looking at the pictures, I was wondering why this book got such a low grade. It looked great from the pictures the seller included in the listing. Curious, I looked at cgc's page on it and after looking at the pictures they include now, I immedietely notced that corner crunch. It was difficult to see it in the listing even knowing where to look for it. It looks like cgc dropped that seller's book too because I can't see anyone submitting a book with that kind of damage. Something else I notced was just how filthy the slab was too. There was so much dust on it and this was from the pictures cgc took! I'm not sure if that's on the outside of the slab or inside, but it was a huge turnoff.

I've only sent one slab into CBCS and that was through a facilitator at a Con. No issues there. HOWEVER I did have a wonky thing with being able to log into my account on their website (about 2 years ago same time as the submission). Tried several times over several months with customer service and they were no help at all. Like several have mentioned they wouldn't answer, wouldn't return phone calls or emails, when I did talk to someone it seemed to be someone outside of CBCS so not in house (they all had accents like they were from oversea). I finally gave up and never got the issue resolved at that time. Then randomly mid last year I got an email from them saying it was fixed. I went to their website and put in all the information I had originally set up and it started working. Very strange. Maybe their customer service has changed and is better recently. I don't know. I do know the few times I've called CGC to inquire about stuff, they always answered, are very friendly, and seem to be onsite.

Additionally, based on all the videos I've watched from any other KZbinr, CGC can't be trusted no matter how many "improvements" they make to their process. There will always be slackers who couldn't care less about the quality of the work done at these grading companies! You might occasionally get lucky with a few employees, but overall it's all a crap-shoot or roll of the dice!

Is the market for trading and selling cbcs decent ? I have a few signed comics with coas, and I read cgc won’t give me a gold label (wasn’t a cgc guy present when they got signed )but cbcs will give me that gold label. Is a gold label cbcs slab, compete with a cgc slab? Seems everyone has more cgc then cbcs in the market right now

I can't believe what just came in the mail to me today. I've never submitted a "like new" book that didn't come back at least a 9.6 until today when one that was in this category with no visible flaws came back a 9.0. Someone was drinking on the job apparently. I got back a 8.5 (which I expected) which is no way a half point off between the two.

I had that happen before.. note said "tanning" and I got 9.0, but I swear it had only the slightest yellowing.. I mean just a hint of it, and I have gotten numerous books back that were darker. So I resubmitted and got the 9.8.

If I were in the business of flipping, I’d be tempted by CBCS given how much you’ve been burned in the past. That said, the market awards more value to CGC so if you’re flipping, that’s where you sadly need to go to maximize your profit margin. All my slabs are PC only so I don’t flip. I only have experience with CBCS, but I love their slab and their new label.

Over the last 4-5 years CGC modern books have been over graded consistently. I will trust CBCS & PGX over CGC anyday. PGX had a rough start, but these last few years they have been far superior to CGC

If you submit long enough and enough books, you are going to get some damaged books by CGC. All we can do is let them know about it. Unfortunately, CBCS is not much better. Their customer service is much worse. CGC at least you can talk to someone in customer service and they get back to you. Bottom line is that CGC slabs sell for much much more and sell 5x easier than a CBCS slab. That is not going to change. Look at how much you slabbed CGC books have been going for (you are killing it). No dealer is going to leave that amount of money on the table.

I've always got a response from CGC, CBCS has NEVER answered any emails or questions I have sent them. So CGC at least have customer service, maybe not the proper response but you at least can speak to someone. I like the look of the CGC case better, it's hard to explain but they are cleaner around the edge of the slab. CBCS is very busy because the inner well seam shows much more and the edge of the slab is ridged which isn't clean like on CGC slabs. I have a couple signature verified slabs coming back with the new label so like you I'm hopeful they look better.

Ah man, that sucks bro! IMO: CGC completely dropped the ball on this one. Issue after issue just keeps occurring with them and that is definitely affecting customer confidence. I've only been collecting for a couple of years, so I'm more so outside looking in and observing all that has been transpiring over the past couple of years. I own close to 5,000 comics and about 75 of them are CGC graded comics. I've never sent in a book to be graded myself. From what I've gathered, I think that over time, the customers have created a Catch-22 for themselves by elevating CGC so much higher than the other services, specifically CBCS. I was like, wasn't both companies started by the same person? Competition is a good thing that helps everyone win. The companies must continue to innovate and improve in product offerings, service and price to be competitive against their competition and the customer benefits from all of it. I'm not picking on you bro, but I've seen several other channels make rant videos about damaged books, cracked cases during shipping, lost books and bad grading. In the next video, they are like, here's the next batch of comics that I'm sending in. I guess my question is, what are consumers willing to do in order to encourage CGC to do better. If people continue hold them so much higher than any of the other grading services, what incentive does CGC has to do better. Consumers do this all the time in other industries, but don't seems to want to do that in this scenario. The best way to vote your disapproval of a product or service is through the withholding our your $$. I get that there's a lot of money tied up in CGC graded books and people don't want to take the hit. However, if the status quo continues, then the hit is going to come anyways as the hits to customer confidence continues to mount. I hope you're compensated properly for your loss and that you make the best decision for you going forward. I wish you all the best my guy!

All the books from these CGC scams/scandals combined do not begin to touch the tip of how bad CGC books are nowadays. 25% to 30% of every 9.8/9.6 book they have graded over the last 5 years are over graded. Look at your CGC comics, does the serial cgc number number begin with either a 3 or a 4? If yes that means it has be graded in the last few years and there is a good chance it is over graded. Now CGC was amazing accurate with their grades back in the day, but not anymore.

CGC is a total mess, I hate their slabs and I noticed many times that they make terrible mistakes and grade 9.8 books with visible issues.

Or you can just buy raw ungraded copies at a fraction of the price and bag & board yourself. You can pull it out and read/look at it any time you want.

Why would you not sell for what CGC is going for. The grading service is more strict then CGC. The slabs are more Superior at cbcs.

The reholder division seems to be the weak link in CGC and the book intake. My last submission had similar weird damage that is uncharacteristic from my submissions. I am going to take pictures before I submit from now on. I wonder if this is how the reholder scammer scum discovered the weakness in CGC’s system 🤔 Pretty quick to process your books and ship them back to you without checks and balances 🖖🏾

Sorry you had that ordeal. It does suck when someone screws up and ruin something perfect like you had CGC does have good customer service a lot of times and they do try to help out but it’s so hard to prove where the books got damaged and companies don’t want to admit that they screwed up but I do think with the price drops and the way they’re handling their current scam issues I think CGC is still the best option.

CBCS is like Hulk 180. CGC is like Hulk 181. One should be more valuable but for some reason it isnt.

CGC stills offers better resale at the same grade. I don't see any value in going with CBCS. unless resale value isn't your primary goal.
