Welcome back to Horsepower Warehouse!
Today I am going to show you guys an update on the Nassau Blue 1966 Corvette convertible which is getting a complete restoration. On my previous video, we explored the depth of foam and exterior damage however this time we are going to take a good look at the chassis and where the most damage is found in a collision. With an example chassis nearby, it is easy to see just how far out of spec our latest restoration really is. Thanks for watching and please consider hitting the Like + Subscribe buttons! Some of the best restoration videos I've ever seen! Nicely done Jr. I have a friend who wanted a 98 Pace car Vette and Jr. and Chris had one (26K miles manual trans) and they took great care of us. If your looking for an awesome Corvette, Classic Cars of Sarasota is the place to go! Thanks guys.

About 40 years ago I saw the aftermath of a pair of Corvettes that ran into each other in an intersection (the town was lousy with C3 Corvettes - lots of guys making $$$$ at the lumber mills): they were basically just sweeping up big piles of fiberglass.

It is amazing what some people let pass through their shops. A completely cracked frame is not a good thing.

I would have bought a older corvette but I would it checked from top to bottom people have the idea that Corvettes don't rust because they are fiberglass they don't take in to account the older ones have steel frames I have a C7 with a aluminum frame

When you replace the frame, do you use one from a donor car? Are these as good aftermarket frames?

Please! with the overdramatic safety histeria - a blowout could happen at any time and wouldn't be any different.
@chuckm482
@chuckm482 6 ай бұрын
What? Overdramatic??? The frame is cracked in half all the way through. It's actually "floating" up and down. You can also see the frame has separation and a twist to it just after the crack. You don't call that dangerous? Get real. I hope you don't work at a repair shop! Doing a resto-mod on a '63 Corvette Convertible and it's mindblowing what I found when I pulled the body off ...

Would have liked to have seen the frame at the front of the rear wheel well under the rear edge of the door . Thats a pocket that will rot all the way thru , I have seen expanding foam shot in there and bondo with undercoating to hide the problem in years past. I still have the receipt for my red 64 coupe 4 spd. that I bought off a chevy dealer used car lot in 1970. They fixed the dip stick and put 2 tires on it ..$1800. out the door. No I dont have it today I did for 22 years. but I do have a C4, aC5 and a C6 at present. Good advice to check all these older classics out good before buying one.

You shouldn't worry about "passing judgement" on a shop that ignores damage like that. I don't get the feeling this owner was the type to ignore the advice of a tech, or tell them "just fix what I asked." I think it comes down to an operator who can't see the forest for the trees, too lazy or too ignorant to see the whole picture. I had a car I took to a Chevy dealer, and months after about $1500 of front brake work, suspension work, the front mounting points of the front subframe fell apart and left a 2" gap between the frame and mounts.

I just found your channel. I enjoyed the video. I do miss the classic Vettes I had, a 1962, 1961 and a 1966. Back in the early 80's.
@trakofsky
@trakofsky 2 жыл бұрын
I have seen a lot worse, really this is not as bad as you make it out to be. A bigger issue is when the fame rots out at the cross member in front of the rear wheel well which was mentioned by another viewer. There are many vette restoration part suppliers that sell frame sections that can sectioned in and welded.

We always use factory donor frames on our OEM style restorations. For custom builds, you would be better off to start with an Art Morrison or Rothspeed chassis.
