Another Code: Recollection is an absorbing experience from start to finish, one that will keep mystery fans comfortably engaged thanks to it's relaxed atmosphere and enjoyable cast. Lacks a little special something, but it's got a lot of heart.

People arent gonna give it enough praise because these characters ain't on the smash roster bros lol, but I really like that Nintendo used the Switch to give mystery games like this, and Famicon Detective Club, a graphic, and other things overhaul, to increase their occult fanbase. It is damn cool. I'm excited to play this one as well.

I love Trace Memory but being in North America I never had the chance to play the wii game. Like you said I was shocked how different the two games are but yet it works. I do love this collection and I am glad these games got remade.

Wow, I expected at least an 8. Im enjoying the game so far despite not really being into visual novels. I'm playing it for what it is and just enjoying the story.

A little correction: at the beginning of the game Ashley and her father are not estranged; she had been led to believe her father was dead.

Thank you for covering this game since I haven't seen any decent sized channel review this game aside from Nintendo Life. I hope it sells well enough for Nintendo to keep bringing back smaller gems.

I was just thinking of the DS game randomly a couple of days ago and I didn’t know about this game on the Switch until now.

Like others have said good game nostalgic and looks great, but a lot was lost in translation, less puzzles and very easy too which shortened the game also I don’t know why but they cut a lot of documents/letters/photos and scenes that really fleshed out the Edward’s family side story and made it more engaging, so it felt a bit hollow in that way

Never picked up the DS game and the sequel never came to the West. My copy of Another Code: Recollection is already in the mail.

I literally yesterday decided to play these games on my 3DS after I finish Rain Code first, and not even a 24 hour later I see that they got a remake on Switch

I was just thinking of getting the DS game a couple of days ago as well. And I haven’t thought about the game in 15 years. Maybe they beamed the thoughts into our heads before releasing this game 😂

As a long-time fan of the series I agree completely with this review. While the story remains largely the same and the visuals and remixed soundtrack look and sound amazing, a LOT has been lost in "translation". As the review points out there are fewer puzzles in the remake, all the iconic puzzles of the original are of course gone, and the puzzles that ARE here sadly aren't even that interesting. Some lore has also been lost, and I absolutely HATE some of the character re-designs, mainly Richard (Ashley's father), Bill Edward, that bloke who runs the guesthouse in Another Code R and... well... everyone else save for Ashley, D, and Jessica. As for their personalities, Ashley thankfully remains largely herself, likable but flawed (unlike some asshole detective in another game made by Cing). But then we have the captain who sails Ashley and Jessica to Blood Edward Island. In the original when Jessica goes missing, the captain opts to go look for her as a responsible adult, but in the remake he just dolts, leaving Ashley stranded on the island to look out for herself. There are other examples with other characters, but I don't wanna spoil the game.

I HATE the camera in this game. I immediately got nauseous playing the demo because of how close up and disorienting it is. I don’t know why Nintendo keeps publishing games that encourage exploration without a variable distance camera.

Journey into Lost Memories is clearly a step down. I played it back when it came out and I just couldn't finish it (now I finally managed). It is clear they tried to do more than in Two Memories but it seems as if they decided that before knowing what they wanted to tell. The characters are walking clichés, the world is too big for its own good, the dialogues are absurdly redundant (with the characters vocalising things they've _and us_ just seen) and meaningless and the last section of the story is basically a succession of conveniences and absurd turns. Be as it may, the game it's well worth the price just to play Two Memories. PD: also, the review and the final score don't really match. I think the reviewer was trying to be a bit too nice. There is nothing wrong with stating you didn't like something or just say it should have been better. There is no need to always say something good right after, because it's a bit confusing and, again, not needed: the point is to critique both the strong and weak points of a game; it's nothing personal that should be soften.

Currently playing this for studying Japanese as it has a quite rare mix of everything one could wish for like Furigana, backlog, push to continue and great JP voice acting (the English's just trash), however, that's where the benefits about this recollection will find a harsh end.. If one played the original NA Trace Memory and compares things with this game, one with a somewhat decent sense of character staging immediately sees the downright cliché underlying tone of introvert'ish tsunderism inside felt like every character now that goes just far beyond the impression of the original, in basically any regard of the remake. The "melancholic" theme is overdone here and if you don't know the original it may not be a too big one but if you do, there's a stark contrast noticable that makes this version feel more empty and sad just for the sake of causing these feelings inside the player and not because the characters' backstory is. The riddles got too much softened as well; even considering the Switch hasn't got all the features of the DS - there still would've been other possibilities for a proper substitute, which didn't take place in the end. While the Cel Shading art style looks neat, the movement animation of Ashley and textures outside the mansion feel quite cheap. Trace Memory for NA got an intentionally revamped script as back in 2005 the Emo-scene was hot stuff among youths and hence Nintendo actually wanted to rewrite Ashley a tad more sassy and less closed/introvert'ish as she was in Japanese-based Two Memories - and imo this choice was a really awesome move but nothing of the sort can be seen in this remake which feels plain out of place for lovers of the original. Kkinda glad I can at least do language studying with it with more benefits than most other games offer.
