Okay, okay, so I'm a sucker for a little Border Collie puppy, guilty as charged. If I'm going to have a bad habit or three, this can be my worst. In this clip, we will give you a brief glimpse at how connected we have always been with these wonderful working dogs.

I’m Scottish and my father was a hill shepherd with 1500 ewes to look after on very remote hills, he always said that having Border Collies made the job much easier, they really are a very special breed super intelligent and loyal. I love your videos what you see is what you get

Very nice natural dogs Clark. Both schools of thought are valid depending on the circumstances. Pleasure to see them working so naturally.

A wall eye in white blaze is an occasional collie eye dog trait. Plenty of ways to train dogs also, and ideas about stock work. Many collies are naturals, and plenty get screwed up by trainers that know less than the dog. Conversely the real know-all collie can be really good until it decides freelancing is ok, her ones in particular can sometimes manipulate trust in the most slippery devious manner. Moss & lambs might not be a comfortable mix out of sight. The track & train collars are really useful, good ones (Garmin seem ok). Usually don't need the shock function but it's very very good when it is needed, like favourite pooch demonstrating wool classing or teaching a young pup bad habits. The different size units have different battery life, a factor when out in the sticks.

I absolutely love watching your dogs, Clark, and how much you care for and about them. Quilp looks beaut. Seeing them work reminds me of a hunt away kelpie pup I had years ago in Longreach. Unfortunately, neighbourhood grubs who thought they were entitled kicked him to death. I knew what had happened but couldn’t prove it. I hate seeing cruelty.

Hi Clark, I’ve got a female pure bred kelpie , and it’s funny to watch instincts that these dogs have bread in them. I’ll take it down the dog park every day in that there’s any dogs down there like a sheep she wants to round them up is so good to watch anyway keep up the good work always enjoy the videos Cliff from Logan City Queensland

Those sookey bloomin border collies of McGhie"s, no big chest collars or radio collars and yet they scent them out and bail em up every time, and enough brains not to get knocked about. That Mossy is such a chip of the old block it is hard to believe sometimes that it is not him taking pride of place in the front seat , hasn't she got some brains.

People think that certain types of dogs only do certain types of work, they forget or dont know that dogs can be trained to do a large variety of work, yeah sure some dogs do some jobs better than other's but still they can do the job you want them to do, some dogs are naturals at some jobs but they can do other jobs to,, cheers
@johnmead8437
@johnmead8437 Ай бұрын
Collies often work cattle and sheep differently. When this type start to heel and bark at sheep in normal situations (& only an actually competent shepherd should teach them to under full control) it is often the first step to catching a bullet for worrying. Some can be shockers, a white face is a good trait to see if they somehow have got blood on them. They understand very well when the boss isn't being attentive, and must hate wearing tracking collars when off for an exercise run around.

I would love to have one of your dogs Clark but I am too old and they need plenty of exercise. I hope you were not offended by my comments about your Brno as most of it was tongue in cheek but I do wish you would refurbish it soon. Cheers, JIM

Thanks for another great video Clark. Welcome to the world Quilp. To anyone who criticizes your dogs if I had a yard and got out often enough to work them I would give more for a dog as good as your pack than I would to walk (Even if they can't drive, open gates or handle money responsibly). Was that the crowbar you knocked those pigs with? I think some of my Kingaroy/Memerambi ancestors may have been acquainted with your family back in the day. Regards Mark from Redlands.

She might be one that goes off the rails if not kept very occupied. Seems it could have an independent streak to test the boundaries. Great in the right hands, & can be a sad end if not fully occupied. The willingness to work with someone else is a good trait if having dogs stolen isn't an issue. There's a vey good reason a 2-4 week trial is a good idea for experienced operators if purchasing one over about 6 months old. Most are less experienced than their CV suggests, & some collies can be a real handful.
