I have the fully serrated version of this knife. I bought it as a user. I have many other knives in my collection. I didn’t buy this to fidget/flip. I don’t even check the centering unless I feel it bind or rub. This large blade carries very comfortably in summer clothes. I have several dogs and tick checks are mandatory after all dog walks. This knife, with its precision point is excellent at dispatching ticks, removing slivers, cutting tape on packages and preparing cardboard boxes for the recycling bin. I heartily endorse it if you enjoy a large knife that cuts through lots of different materials with ease. Happy Thanksgiving!

The stretch g10 Cruwear is a great model. Only have a stretch lw k390 no xl stretch yet. I can flick every Spyderco backlock I own. And that’s a bunch.👍🏻

@@davidf3974 I picked up a manix 2 and pm2 with perfect action and centering from a local store . Now the little dragonfly , delica 4 and tenacious took over a year to become smooth . A lot of times it’s just a matter of pivot adjustment or cracking the factory set screws and re setting . Eventually the pivots can be tightened all the way for me .

Wondering if the perceived faults you’ve noticed would discourage you from getting the CPM Magnacut/LC200N Salt versions in the future? Do you think these are just some of the realities of making such a big linerless knife?

crack high? who else sells rex45 heat treated correctly for $145? who else sells magnacut at perfect hrc for under $160? some models are pricey but most of them are $200 or less. you can get a police 4 in k390 for like $180.

I've been noticing wonky edges and bad centering on my recent US made Spydies too. Maybe I just have terrible luck, but seeing your Seki city spyderco with the same issues makes me think something is going on interally at a company level and the customers are left fixing up the factory slop.

I’m a knife novice so bare with me. What is blade centering mean? Thanks
@ImCodyLee
@ImCodyLee 8 ай бұрын
@@anthonyburlison2044 when the knife is closed, the blade should rest in the center of the handles. As he showed in the video, his blade rests off-centered more towards one side of the handle when closed.
@hityoutwo
@hityoutwo 8 ай бұрын
@@anthonyburlison2044 No worries, it’s how the knife blade sits when it’s closed. Sometimes it’ll lean towards one side of the handle. It’s not a huge deal, but some Spydercos I’ve gotten have leaned so much that the blade is rubbing against the handle.

I bought one of these in my never ending search for the perfect work knife. As a truck driver I don’t want heavy and I need a longer blade to reach the tops of pallets to occasionally cut shrink wrap. Mine came uneven and the washers had grit in them. I’ll try the native chief next. $160 down. This is my 11th work knife in this quest lol.

@@Larryrandom2549This is false information. LW Spyderco knives vary in their washer counts. The Stretch 2 XL you see in the video should have zero washers. The Para 3 LW has only one, meanwhile the Sage 5 LW actually comes with two. It is totally random.

I like the idea of a maintenance free and lightweight Spyderco knife. You have to appreciate the idea of the design. When I first get one, I wash it in the sink with dawn and hot water. Then dry it out and lube it up. I do not think you can expect the same smooth action of a knife made with the materials it uses. However, it takes a serious beating and mine got smoother with use. If you bounce a Medford knife into a pile of rocks, it will leave a mark for sure. Moreover, you will shed a few tears looking at it from then on. Likely, you will not find much of a mark on a FRN handle and it is no big deal if you do. Spyderco sells all varieties of blade steels and puts them in an FRN handle. If you feel the handle flexing you are probably doing something you should not be doing. I have never been field dressing a Buck and concerned about blade centering or a drop shut blade action. That knife is ready for the worst conditions not for showing off and using as a play toy.👍😅🤣

@@grimecrimetime:- You should definitely wash (with a household soap) any manufactured item that might be used for food prep or cooking. This includes knives, pots and pans, dishes and tableware, etc. The manufacturing process uses various lubricants to enhance ease of machining and these lubricants should not be consumed, they could be dangerous to your health. Dawn detergent is a totally acceptable degreaser to use on new products. Most instructions to purchasers from manufacturers state that their products (that are to be used in food prep) should be washed before use. Regarding knives that are used in the kitchen, pharmaceutical grade mineral oil can be safely used to lubricate and protect the metal from corrosion with no danger to the end user.

@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839I use mineral oil for many things I soak old knives in a bath of it to bring back the luster in stag, bone and horn handle knives. I can see the difference it does and it has no ill effects I can see. I learned about it from a collector’s club article a long time ago. I use another product made by Birchwood Casey called RIG It is a gun grease without any rust removing qualities. I used it on guns for years because it will not affect the bluing finishes, in a cloth with it in the cloth. It protects the metal better than anything I ever used. Renaissance Wax and polish is another good product too. Thank you for your reply.

Im just not into FRN. Spydercos isnt horrible but still aside from it being inexpensive and waterproof it is my least favorite handle material out of the like 30 plus knives I own. Its just too flexible and feels cheap because well frankly, it is.

I've had /got lots of Spyderco knives, and I can honestly say, this exact model is the only one that I had to destroy,,, mine had so many problems which I tried in vain to fix... Just about everything that could be wrong, was wrong,, nearly every other Spyderco I've bought was virtually perfect,, so this model is obviously the exception to the rule,, I'd advise everyone to avoid this one.. After losing my patience over several weeks trying to sort it out, it eventually went in the river, because I didn't even want to give it away, it was that bad,, Caveat Emptor, as they say,,,

I've had a few spydercos with uneven secondary bevels, and they all had matching bevels. They must have spent more time on the grinder on one side. That's basically how I fixed it was by spending more time on the stones on the thin side

No you’re not unlucky.. but it isn’t just Spyderco that has been slipping in the quality dept in the high end knife manufacturing… microtech also sucks compared to 5 years ago and later … these manufacturers are cutting corners I assume to get more knives produced… they aren’t worth the money today imho

japanese spydies are the worst in my opinion, at least value wise. their prices are often crazy for what you get and the fit'n'finish is generally wonky. out of 10 japanese spydies i had maybe 2 with a relatively centered blade. the only exception are the jp spydies from moki, these are generally excellent.

their us and taichung models are generall very good, but their price hikes have become so insane over the past years. not worth it anymore, the competition is just too strong nowadays and the only reason why spyderco is still alive, is their reputation from early days.
