Yeah - had that happen to me at 100mph on my old Yamaha 350LC back in the early 80's. Sudden puncture and eyeball marks all over the inside of the helmet visor - but I did manage to hang onto the bucking bronco and steer it with body weight ,eventually sliding into a well placed layby. God was with me that day !

I think it's kaput and they just didn't know it yet. The water will have got everywhere inside the engine, likely the interior would eventually go mouldy, unless they took immediate steps to dry it out properly.

Presumably the aif intake is near the top of the engine. They went nice and slow, so no problem (until the electrical connectors corrode and the wheel bearings turn to mush)

I have an EV, it would probably get through these fine… but I’d still not drive through deep water. You can’t see if there’s logs or concrete blocks… or just massive potholes.. plus once the water is over the sills, some will get in a you’ll have damp carpets and mould. It’s totally moronic. 😂

Couldn't agree more, I saw a car disappear down a big hole in a flood many years ago. The road had collapsed into a drain under the water. The whole car was nose down under water half way up the rear doors. Luckily it was a hatchback so the driver could escape from the back.

@ no. It’s rare. Several Tesla’s ignited after a hurricane. This video is not of cars in salt water is it? Probably no video on this channel show any cars in saltwater. One of the cars in the video, is an MG4, which I think has an LFP battery which is much less likely to have a runaway reaction. Same battery tech in many other EVs now like the most common EU Tesla Model Ys and many iD3s I think. And yes, the battery is sealed and the motor most defiantly. They are water cooled to capture heat. How does that stay in? There’s small holes in the structure to allow for battery off-gassing and expansion.. but these have filters for stopping liquid and dust in meaningful quantities.

Where I live in North Norfolk we have three lanes that pass through a very shallow river. Each land has a clear sign tell motorists not to go any further, but they still do. Even though the water is no where as near as deep as the water in these vids, the cars still die. I think people think they are indestructible in their cars, it gives them a completely false sense of security.

At 02:30 that guy has luck! At the great rain disaster in Germany few years ago, there was an old lady saved by the fire department after her car was hydrolocked, but in case of to much emergency calls the fire department let the car stand in the water, unfortenally no recovery company came to recover her car, because for them the recovery was to danger and other recoveries were higher rated. At the end the fire department had to come a second time to the car in the water, because it was burning! The battery was not deactivated and insid the car was so much water, that the fuse box was under water and creates massive short circuits.

You have question why people make the decision to fill their car with muddy water, rather than find another route. Although most of them were lucky and got through, the water ingress into the vehicle will eventually corrode the electronics first. The car will be rotten soon enough, then junked because it needs expensive repairs to the electrical systems (even if it can be repaired).
