I would suggest a smaller container to begin with, one you can work around easier, like a deep mug or the strip cup. Then as you fill the cup.. dump it in the bucket. I do this when training cows to stand to be milked. It allows me to work closer to the udder without a pail obstacle. Plus slow down.....take some time to just rub and massage the udder before you start to milk. It’s going to be awesome when they are trained.

I would also recommend you move the stanchion so their faces aren't towards the wall, goats like to feel they can move their heads around some. We're milking two of our alpines right now, one of whom is very picky about being milked. She tries to side step us, we usually have someone holding her on one side to keep her in place. It's a work in progress. Good luck. I love your videos.

Put the grain on the milk stand before bringing the each goat to the stand. The goat will concentrate on the food and not so much on fighting you. Pulling the udder out behind the hind legs will brake down the ligaments of the udder which will damage the udder supports. Milk pan should be kept closer to the front legs.

Submerge the milk (in its jar, of course lol) in cold water (ice water is best) to cool it as fast as possible. Water bathing cools the milk 30x faster than air cooling & the faster you cool it, the less it’ll taste like goat..

maybe try a smaller bucket? the bucket you have now may be to big for it to fit under the goats comfortably which may be a factor in the kicking issue? check out a channel called "Weed 'em & Reap" they have four milking goats and they may be able to provide some ideas on how to stop the kicking problem? Hope the milking gets easier from now on good luck!

Oh my goodness... I have no patience for all that jumping and kicking. I tie each leg down to the milk stand if they do that. Only takes a couple times and they learn. Also a much smaller bucket will make your life easier. I’ll get a link of the bucket I use... your daughter is doing a wonderful job ❤️

Supergoat :-D It was so nice seeing this first time milking that didn't go perfectly! We got our first dairy goat this year.... Never even had goats milk, so I was very anxious about this taste test. I imagine my first experience milking will be very similar... And now I won't freak out when it does. Thank you guys!!!

Just give her the feed and she'll be happier. You just have to get through it and keep your hand on like you did when she kicks. She's doing fine

Apparently the wisdom is that if you're milking the animal while it's alarmed or annoyed or scared it can sour the milk. I guess you have to sooth it and pet it and get it so calm that it wants to be milked. (Same thing when an animal is slaughtered, enzymes are released when animals are in a state of panic). Not that I'm an expert, but I've never seen anyone milk a goat without feeding it at the same time. Also, with goats, a billy goat will ruin the flavor of the milk all the time, because of their smell which gets into everything, even the milk. Keep up the good work and keep learning. You have to start some where. בס״ד

They definitely kicked more when you tried to milk from behind. Maybe Kay would have better luck. Also hobbles, I think that's what they are called, would help in securing their back legs.
@rosejafari8917
@rosejafari8917 5 жыл бұрын
Do try putting some feed in the bucket as you're wiping and testing the milk. She was pretty calm compared to some. Squeeze the above the knee on the ligament to stop the jumping. Then maybe hobble the legs till they get use to it.

Hey! I suggest until she settles down on the stand to milk into a quart Masson jar and then pour off into your bucket. Put a bucket up under their bellies and that will help. You should see an improvement. It works with our bucking doe that gives me a rodeo show at least 1x a week

We have Nigerian Dwarfs and a mini Nubian. The best flavor we get comes from feeding chaffhaye, cob w/ molasses ,dairy goat grains and beet root with molasses I mix a scoop of the grains with their chaffhaye and oh my the flavor is sweet a little nutty and so much cream!

When I had milking goats I tied the back legs back and used a smaller bucket and another bucket that I poured the milk into as I went, I also invested in a battery powed milker, much better for the goat (giving almost double the milk) and the person milking the goat.

Blue Cactus Dairy Goats shows how to deal with kicking goats too. If your buck is in with your does it'll affect the taste of the milk too. It makes it disgusting. Hold your hand on her udder until she stops kicking and relaxes. And put her on the stanchion just to touch her udder. That way she gets used to it.

Not bad considering they don't have routine to follow yet. Hard when you had to deal with worming, once you get the schedule figured out they will adapt well and stop kicking. I still say, get them in the brush and you will be getting more milk and healthier animals.

Hi Guys Love your Channel.But I have a query for you please. I watch Living Traditions among many many other homesteady channels and was rather taken back when Kevin and Sarah explained that they had been "advised/warned" by KZbin that they were not allowed to have their children videoed to be shown on their Channel. Can I ask have you also been advised? I watch Weed em and Reap,,Justin Rhodes,Art and Bri ,Swedish Homestead,White House on The Hill,Amy Maryon, and Our Large Tribe. The last 2 are Large Family as in 9 and 10 Children. But the others I mentioned all have their children interacting in every video posted.I am asking the other channels as well.

It is Nubian milk, it should be as creamy as the Jersey but the cream does not separate so it tastes more like homogenized store bought milk. Gizmo may produce more cream because it is hard for her to produce the volume to satisfy 2 kids.

Find a good routine and stick with it. After a couple weeks, they’ll be old pros and do everything automatically. A smaller bucket may be better. Some people milk into mason jars initially until the goats get used to the stand. Hold the jar with one hand and milk with the other. I use a small 3 quart bucket and it works great. Even for training. My daughters stand at the head of the goat and distract them while I milk. Goats like to be snuggled 😀

Taste depends on many factors but where goat milk always beats cow milk is it's ease of digesting. I have been told I'm lactose intolerant. I can manage to drink fat free cow milk and not get so much of the symptoms but whole cow milk makes such terrible gas pains etc. Goats milk never did that to me and it's a hell of a lot better than fat free milk lol. My friends Nigerian mixes milk didn't hurt my stomach and it has more cream in it than most. It was also way better tasting than my Alpine milk. My girl produced a lot of milk but it had an almost saltier taste no mastitis or anything just not as sweet as my friends goats milk. I've been told the cream makes it sweeter. Just a thought. When I get goats again in a position where I can it's worth it to me not to be in pain and goats milk is expensive here. Fat free cow milk is blah but better than nothing so until I can that's what I'm stuck with.

Get some ropes and hobble her hoofs to the base of the stand. Goats that learn to kick and dance on the stand can only be broken of that by hobbling their legs backward to the rear foot posts of the stand. It can take a year or more to break them of that behavior.
