This video was recorded immediately after my last video but we got severely backed up on repairs and I have not been able to finish it. But here I am! I'm going to try to go back to posting every week. Thank you all for sticking around. :-) The next videos are already in the works. Edit (2 weeks later) - still working on this weekly posting. :-)

@STS Telecom Curious as to what was max depth that the iPhone X was submerged to? IP ratings and waterproofing of even mil-grade waterproof/resistant items usually have a maximum depth that the item will withstand and past that, water pressure compromises the waterproofing/resistance of items (e.g. seals, gaskets, etc.).

@ststele5 жыл бұрын
I only get to see the ones that don’t survive their underwater adventures. Most stories include the phone being absolutely fine until a few days or a week later. You can always see where the water seeped in gradually. Now, I have seen the Xs boiled in beer for hours and survive. It is quite a lot better than the X. The iPhone X is not waterproof and it will die.

I am surprised there was not more damage from corrosion. Given that the phone had been in saltwater, any reason why you would not rinse the phone with distilled water to flush the salt out and then follow up with a rinse with IPA to remove the distilled water?
@ststele5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they are horribly corroded but the X is usually not too bad. I think the real bad ones have had screens replaced or owners who submerge them for pictures. I would not want to warranty a full repair when they’re too messed up. This one was for a customer who specifically requests for the phones to not be fixed, although they still get a lot of them back fully repaired.

Hi Jason! I was wondering, how come you only do data recovery for water damage? I know you do a warranty typically, but how come you don't give the option for full water damage repair like just without the warranty or sumfin? I've seen a lot of your repairs (Maybe not this one) where the phone seems like it's not in terrible condition and it would work fine. Also, amazing job on this repair, looked like it would have been a lot more difficult with how messed up it was!
@ststele5 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried the repair but without warranty thing before and found myself mostly buried in arguments. So many people will say they don’t care how it turns out but they don’t realize what they are saying (at least, until it works for a week and something breaks). We started taking in the iPhone X and above for liquid damage repair though. They are usually not too bad but sometimes they are still too damaged to consider full repair. They have good enough odds to bring them in tho. Also, I still wind up fixing a lot of liquid damage for the sake of full repair on older models but I wouldn’t dare advertise it. :-) it’s usually when they come in and have minor issues and are not an endless game of chasing down problems.

Can we recover lost data after erasing iPhone if we don’t any backup on iCloud and iTunes
@OnYourSquare4 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is much that can be commercially done. When you hit "delete" or "restore", the data is not actually deleted. The system simply marks the data's current address as "available". So that data is technically still on the hard disk until it is rewritten. The problem is the data is encrypted. When you restored the device the encryption key changes. We can easily remove the NAND and read the binary data. Without the encryption key, we have no idea what order to reassembly them in. And to brute force guess a 128 bit key (128 spaces, each can be 1 of 19 different characters) would take 500 billion years.

it seems that a lot of iphone damage is from "using in damp conditions" meaning even use it outdoors ! In that way the warranty becomes void; in my opinion that is a damn excuse to get out of warranty for their sloppy construction (see labor situation in India).

Did they heat this in an oven in an attempt to dry it out hence the solder balls??
@ststele5 жыл бұрын
I wonder if there was some foul play somehow but I’m 95% sure I was the first to open it though so they would have had to bake the whole phone.

@@ststele Ya and the amount of heat required to cause all those solder balls would have affected the screen and other parts. Could if it of been a refurbished phone from Apple replaced either under AppleCare etc and that is just the quality of the work?

Hey Jason, I noticed that you did the backup to iCloud instead of a local PC backup. How in the heck were you able to put the entire backup on a flash drive? I was under the impression that even local iTunes backups cannot be moved over to a different computer because of registry issues. I would really appreciate if you could clarify this for me.
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why they give an option within the desktop iTunes application to choose where it backs up to. If that is set to iCloud, and you click the "backup now" button, it still backs up to %appdata%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup (On Windows 10). Each folder here is a backup. They can be moved to another computer in the same spot & restored via iTunes to a phone. I'm pretty sure the backup format is universal regardless of operating system or application that created the backup though... I think a 3u backup & an iTunes backup would look identical. I've never verified that though.

Great video, no problem, I can do this at home with all those tools I do not have!! iPhone Xs is NOT water proof but they are advertised all over the internet to be IP68, which it is water resistant, then apple and everyone that works there sells it and assure customers that this thing can resist getting wet for up to 30 minutes and submerged in water to a depth of 3 meters. Here is my story; my iPhone Xs Max that I paid over $1500.00 in April 2019 was never submerged in water until few days ago I took some videos few minutes in my above ground pool, the immersion was only below the water line and I posted those videos in facebook, one is 5 minutes but only submerged for FEW seconds; minutes later it started to do restart loops; the phone last on 3 minutes and goes to restart for few seconds, by now I have done all the restores there are, which is 3 different ones, I lost cool pictures I will never be able to recover, after all this, still does same thing; have contacted apple 3 times, water damage it is not covered even if it was under warranty I am told but the water sensor inside the sim card tray is white, not red, although I can see condensation in the front camera; diagnostic shows an issue with the barometer and compass, nothing more, everything else shows good; apple is reluctant to do anything like replacing the device because they contend it is out of warranty and it does not have apple care extended; even if it did, water damage we pay they say starting at about $600.00 to repair the phone sending it to one of you guys to an apple authorized shop. It is really shitty from this horrible falling down company to advertise their product as IP68 saying it is ok to get it wet and then deny warranty to the device when it fails; their standing behind their product and what they sell have gone to pot; the only reason I decided to film in the water with the phone is because the assurances and the believe that few minutes contact with water or submerged under the water line would not hurt it; this is not what happens; I have done everything I can do to get the humidity that it obviously have inside out; have put it in rice, nothing, have yet to try silica but watching this video seems the only hope is to get it opened in a shop and of course it would not be sealed again as factory new and would I ever trust anyone telling me the phone is actually sealed after what is happening???? Well, to big problems there are big solutions; number one, the bad advertising and my story to tell to anyone I encounter about how this company blatantly lies to customers and then do not stands behind their product will be all over and that is the worst damage I can do to them in exchange for the $1500 they believe they can rob me of but last and not least I will sue apple in small claims court for my money back; they would not, can not afford to send lawyers to small claim courts, they may send a case manager and/ or a store manager who I will eat for breakfast in court for sure when he stands there and says the phone is out of warranty and I show all their videos and advertising of the IP68 rating and its meaning; clearly, I am not alone in this issue with apple; there are many more folks involved in battles and pissed off because their disregard for customer service and retail ethics values, but judges already know that by now, so to apple it is more important a piece of shite equipment that it cost minimum to produce rather than their face to the customers and standing behind what they sell you and they say it would do! but I can tell you I will not throw my phone in a drawer and resign to lose $1500 just because I believed these fraudsters bogus advertising; there are certain protection under consumer laws that Tim Cook is ignoring and someone needs to slap this asshole in his ugly face with some reality, hopefully, the court will do that!

@ststele5 жыл бұрын
Or even Google Photos. I did another recovery today that was a full 256GB. No backups. Most of them I do just didn't have enough iCloud storage to back everything up. If Apple ever starts handing out storage like Google does, there will be a lot less data recovery coming in.
