Hi Leena! So glad to see you back and feeling better. You have this incredible ability to put feelings into words. I can so relate to the long term illness things…I went through 18 months of post-viral fatigue a few years ago and everything you said is bang on…your brain telling you stories, how blissfully sweet boring normal life can be when you haven’t had it for a while. I think it is very human to get depressed when you are ill. As well as missing being able to participate in things you love, there is also the fear and anxiety of wondering what exactly is wrong and when/if you will ever get better. Anyway, enough of that. I can’t wait to see the bubbles grow on your new shawl! Knit what brings you joy! ❤

Hi Joanne! 18 months is an insanely long time to feel unwell. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hope you had all the love and support you needed. 100% we have to knit what brings us joy! Too much in life is obligatory. Knitting shouldn’t be!!

I missed you too. I am at Vogue Knitting Life in New York. I am sitting in my hotel room watching you and knitting a mini sweater which is homework for my next class tomorrow. Feel better and give yourself enough time to fully recover. Warm hugs

I'm so happy to see you back and feeling better! 😊 I really like how your shawl came out. You are the shawl queen 👑 and my inspiration to try making one. I also love Isabel Kraemer's designs. The cardigan that you are making is one on my wish list too!

I am such a shawl queen!! I don’t know why they make me so happy. There is something about a big piece of fabric that you can wrap around yourself that just makes me feel happy and cozy 🥰 I think you’d love this cardigan! It’s so fun to knit because of the interesting construction.

Hi friend! I’ve missed you too and happy to see you back. I can relate to the sickness troubles, I have 4 kids under 5, and my twins (5 year olds) started school this year for the first time, so they’ve brought anything and everything home. I had RSV and Flu A both turn into pneumonia and it was a really tough time. The repetitive sickness anxiety is real. I’m glad you’ve been able to rest and are on the mend. Your traveler shawl made me so happy! I saw it and squeeled to my husband about it. I really want to learn to spin just for projects like this. We bought our first ever spincycle (husband’s yarn) and I’m so eager to use something handspun or like. I love the way yours looks!

You have 4 kids under 5!!!! May God bless you and keep you and give you extra credit! You are my hero. I would have run away from home 😂 I’m so sorry you had those two gnarly bugs back to back. Such a nightmare! I’m wearing a mask everywhere for a few weeks while I build my immune system back up. The thought of getting sick again makes me want to cry. You’re going to love the Spincycle! It’s so fun to watch the colors unfold. Make sure and let me know if you guys enjoy it! Lots of love to you 🩷

I’m glad you caught the pneumonia. It’s no fun to be sick for an extended period of time. Congrats on finishing the hub’s sweater. You are a better woman than me, because no way am I knitting my husband a sweater! The shawl is beautiful and looking forward to seeing your Stephen West shawl as it progresses.

I'm so glad you're feeling better - pneumonia is the worst and can make you feel rubbish for a while so be kind to yourself. Self-care is paramount now. Love your Traveler shawl, I've just about finished the first half of mine so need to pick up the stitches in a different colour now. Good luck with the Stephen West shawl - I'm afraid of Brioche so you're braver than me ❤

Hi Karen! Have you never tried brioche before? It’s a bit of a learning curve but so satisfying and worth it in the end.

I'm a new spinner as of this past year and I started with a drop spindle. It definitely came with a learning curve. But I enjoyed learning the process and read books like yarnitexture and respect the spindle. If you are into learning and enjoying the process of learning, a spindle might be a fun intro. When I felt ready for spinning more I researched electric spinners. The electric eel wheel 6.0 is much more affordable than other options and you can spin a good amount. It's also super portable. Just thought I'd pass along some info as a newbie spinner since it took a lot of research. Love your podcasts they are always a joy to watch! Thanks for sharing your knitting journey ❤😊
@AnotherKnittingPod11 ай бұрын
Thank you for telling me about your spinning journey! I actually took a spinning class and worked with a drop spindle, so I do feel ready for a real wheel. I don’t really know the difference between an electric and a regular. I will have to look into it. I’ve heard Yarnitexture is an incredible resource. I need to get my hands on it! ❤️

I’m glad you are feeling better! I also need color in my knitting. It brings me such joy. (I was worried when you picked out those grays for your Geogradient that you had abandoned color, lol) Re the cowl: I find that things can look less appealing when the piece is small. They can really get better as you see more of the pattern. 🌈🌈
@AnotherKnittingPod11 ай бұрын
I will never ever abandon color!! I think being able to go between neutrals and brights keeps it all interesting. I think you are 100% right on the cowl. I would have enjoyed watching the pattern unfold, but I wasn’t in love with my colors and obligatory knitting is joyless for me.

Your shawl is beautiful and I too love knitting Dream State on it's own. I'm glad you're feeling better, pneumonia is scary had it about 4 years ago. It took me about a 2 months to feel normal again due to causing other health issues to reoccur.

I am so sorry you were so sick, but glad you feel better now. Too sick to knit is no fun at all! Good thing you weren’t sick when you were solo parenting last month, I mean just no to that. While you were talking about the cowl, I was thinking “she needs some Stephen magic!” A beautiful color and your beloved Stephen might be what you are looking for. Your shawl is gorgeous, and looks stunning on you. The cardigan you started will be such a staple. I’m all for a built in band without picking up!

Hi! So happy to hear you are feeling better and wanted to recommend a book since I, too, loved The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. The rec is Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. It was recommended on a book podcast called What Should I Read Next for readers who loved The Snow Child. Wanted to share since it was a good one, too! 💞

Fantastic! Thank you for the recommendation! I read another one of Diane Setterfield’s books long ago, but I can’t recall which one. Modern Mrs. Darcy is such a great resource for books!!

Leena you're hilarious! "I cannot knit this giant boring man's sweater again" LOL!!!! It's gorgeous though in all it's boring glory. You did a fantastic job on it. Love the new shawl. I"m looking forward to your Patchwork Sweater, that ought to be a total pain but hopefully you'll love it. I'm in my last semester working toward my masters & knitting easy things, dishcloths & dish towels in fun colors and different stitches. Right now I'm doing a linen stitch towel with Red borders on either end, and Black & White in the center. I copied a color scheme I saw on a dish towel in Cracker Barrel. It's gorgeous. I went shopping at the Talbot's outlet yesterday, guess what I saw on the front table.... a blue & white sweater knit in LINEN STITCH! I couldn't believe it! That's a first. I had been thinking that stitch would make a really interesting sweater, and it does! The new colorwork cowl you're working on is beautiful but kinda drab especially in the dead of winter. I think you need something bright and joyful, that's probably what attracted you to that cowl pattern in the first place.
@AnotherKnittingPod11 ай бұрын
Hi friend! What are you doing your masters in?? I can only imagine that the knitting you need is relaxed so it gives your mind a break. I love seeing handknit inspiration out in the world! You’ll have to make yourself a linen stitch sweater when you graduate and have the mental bandwidth to take it on! I’ve never encountered linen stitch. Will have to look it up. Have a lovely weekend, always a treat to hear from you!

So glad to see you, I was getting worried...hopefully you'll just keep feeling better. As for the cowl...if in doubt, rip it out. Funny thing happened to me last month...I had been enjoying the Westknits MKAL, when all of a sudden I wasn't. It was like a light switch had been turned off. I didn't care at all about it, didn't want to try to continue, didn't care about having a finished shawl. So strange. I chucked it...couldn't even salvage the yarn. Right now I'm working on my first Jennifer Beale pattern, Juniper Brook, and I'm loving it so much. Her designs have such unique constructions...I really believe I'll have one of her designs on the needles at all times 🥰❤
@AnotherKnittingPod11 ай бұрын
I understand being over a project! Especially something very labor intensive like a fingering weight shawl. Sometimes trying to salvage yarn just isn’t worth it. Glad you didn’t waste your time. I will have to check out Jennifer Beale! Sounds like quite the endorsement!
