Whilst the first one was shown on Channel 4 Boxing Day 1984 i dont think this one was given airtime and just went straight to video.

Bob Symes... Still sadly missed, but never forgotten. A true legend, in his own lifetime.

Bob Symes Robert Alexander Schutzmann was an amazing person. He built the very first radio-controlled model diesel locomotive. That will never be beaten.

I'm in my late 30s and some of my earliest memories are of Bob Symes programmes. To me he's the David Attenborough of modelling television.

There was rumours of individually run locos being developed to be run by a computer system, from Germany, and if I remember correctly, there was some radio control locos that run on 12v DC track.

Those model layouts were awesome, particularly Wheal Mellin, I do hope some have survived and are perhaps on public display somewhere. Also worth noting that back in the day they would have been ‘scratch built’ and not have used the CAD/CAM kits available these days. Thank you for sharing.
