Hi Lauren, here is a trick to clean teak from a superyacht deckhand: he uses powder laundry soap to brush the teak grain wise then rinces it off. Cheers!

What a perfect depiction of the carefree life of living on a sailboat 😆 It reminds me of when I decided to restore an old Corvette. Three years and 2 engines later I'm pretty sure I touched every single inch and bolt on that car. Your definitely earning your stripes as a sailor and I'm sure all the hard work will pay dividends in the years to come not to mention how important it is to know all the systems on your boat. Seems like you have the even temperament and patience it takes to work through all the mess and your gonna have so much knowledge and wisdom when you come out the other side. Wow Lauren, can't believe the bad luck and delays you have had with your boat. I am so impressed with how chilled out you are. I would of been pulling my hair out. But as you said, best that this time everything is done right and you won't be let down on your next trip. Can you please slow down your panning around with the camera as it makes me dizzy. Hope those guys installed an oversized exhaust pot for you. At times I've closed the thru hull worried sick about it. That method is a little sketchy though. Gotta leave a sticky note reminder on the ignition !

Like your videos, glad it’s a new engine and not a rebuilt. I would sue for down time because it was their fault on installation, you would get a settlement, something better than nothing but it doesn’t replace being in the Bahamas. Don’t let them run over you because you’re a young lady.

Before you sail again... ORGANIZE all Safety equipment get generator.. should of bottom painted while out. Seeing how motor company had to pay to have you hauled out. Gal always replace new and double clamp you need tools battery tools on boat. Gtechics is great expensive stuff but great boat rosin glass cleaners last for years.

As a Marine biologist have you ever watched the discover channels specials on sharks where they "test" to see if you are food? I am curious what the precautions are that you take when you go diving with sharks....

I dive with sharks just about daily, sharks are not interested in us. If they do bite, it’s normally due to being confused, low visibility, splashing, dead fish around

I am liking the videos, they do jump around a bit but doable. However, I feel like I jumped into a 6 year long stream of videos and have no idea what’s going on here? Is there another channel that I can watch to get me up to speed on things? Sounds like you are talking to friends and family that know the back stories. You obviously have sailing experience, and you just mentioned charter? On the other hand, Glad to see a new engine, maybe you can dig a little into how to tell the difference between battery power and hydro locked engine, that way you can save the engine and maybe your life.

When you see dirty Mayo where oil should be you have a bad problem when it comes out of your air filter 😖😬🤯 thats grim ive seen Diesel cars with low air intakes hit flooded roads and hydro lock but not a boat via its exhaust. You must have felt gutted before you new the cause ....after Im speechless I hope those guys give you a full report to hit whoever messed up with

@@laurenlanders Hmmm... difficult thats the sort of thing you want on a card ...let the bank argue with them 😉🇬🇧 But I bet they wanted payment in full by transfer .. 😤☹️ The boat business is like car repair shops but worse and the parts business side is worse still... at the moment its hanging onto direct diesel power but its going to have to change to hybrid electric propulsion systems very soon. They can also regenerate power under sail...and are virtually maintainance free.. Its still expensive at the moment but when the Automotive industry gets sorted especially shifting away from rare and expensive Lithium chemistry cells then things will improve and costs drop. 🤞🏼⛵ Good luck and safe sailing.. ive found a couple of young female largely solo sailors recently yourself being one the other has a home built wharram catamaran that she has already covered 11,000 NMs on ...very different from your monohull but she has similar dreams.

Well, hopefully whoever installed that is paying for this. From what I was hearing, the system wasn't installed correctly especially the muffler output ? Maybe it didn't have the high low loop ? I really apologize , I'm just going by this few minutes. From what I heard, salt water went directly into the engine because it wasn't installed correctly ?

@@laurenlanders I'm hoping to begin sailing soon . Things are beginning to line up. As I haven't , in the past , been able to afford to have others do work for me, I've always had to study and get the skills. That is how I'm handling sailing. I decided that so many folks are out there and many are also DIY types, I would look at what they are doing closely , noting the mistakes. This muffler exhaust thing has bit many sailors in the dearer. Most because they have allowed the system to get too old and it has blown up, or just simply corroded through, with devastating results. A few had to go through the process of learning how the exhaust loop works. Some the hard way. One even developed a flapper valve on the outside so water wouldn't slam into the system. Might help ? One had his system blow and didn't happen to notice it right away, which sent CO2 into the entire boat. It was the flex pipe some use, but had gotten very old. One must remember that the mixture of sea water and hot gasses is very corrosive.

What's going on with these engines? You replaced the original engine when it broke during a sea trial, and then the replacement broke because it sucked in water and hydro locked? Sounds like it wasn't fitted correctly. Maybe you should get a free new engine.
