give the derail valley a try, I prefer it over the dovetail's scam sim world...
@sharky12136 ай бұрын
@@sweetlemonade123 The obvious problem with Derail Valley though is that it uses fictional trains on a fictional world. The thing I want from a train simulator is to feel like a real world train driver driving a real world train on a real world route with real world timetables and real world operations. Not saying DTG does them necessarily well, but those things are simply not the aim of Derail Valley. In that sense SimRail is the more obvious competitor to TSW I think, as it actually has a large overlap in what it offers with TSW, more than Derail Valley does.

Just came across this in the steam store. Glad to see another train sim in the works. I saw it was from the same developers of Fishing Planet, so when you noted & where confused by the "Buy" button it raised an eyebrow for me lol. In fishing planet you have to "buy" a pass to fish a particular map, using the currency you earn in game via catching fish. But more importantly you can also purchase this in-game currency with real money, or purchase tokens to get bonus exp/currency in-game for the day etc. You can still progress in the game without purchasing anything, but its a grind to do so. It will be interesting to see if they will try to make this microtransaction payment model work in a train sim game, making the base game free to play.

Train Sims would be a lot better if they were like MSFS and XP and have the whole world mapped and it's just a big North America or Europe sandbox. And better if it had online traffic control like VATSIM, maybe VRTSIM ha. And real-world weather.
@BluGames6 ай бұрын
True.. but sadly idk if that will ever come true
@QueentasticTDP6 ай бұрын
This probably wont happen as they need to do ALOT of scenery around the world. It works with MSFS due to its just the world map used and some generic low poly houses when not in bigger cities/airports

Well it's a niche market, it's not MS with their flight sim.

Like TrainSim? But it only has Poland for now, other countries are coming.
@mikkdc6 ай бұрын
Train Life does that to a certain extent, with the map featuring Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Holland, France, Belgium and a tiny part of the UK but is more arcadey than other sims. I enjoy it but it isn't anywhere near as detailed as TSW or Train Planet but that's understandable due to the size of the map featured in Train Life. The dream is , as you say, to have the detail in sims but with a continent to free roam.

As a person who accidentally happened to live in Düren for quite some time and drove that route for years (as a passenger) I can say, yeah, it looks pretty decent. Good job. I have to say that in reality grass and trees are not that perfect but hey, who cares.

It looks promising but a lot of things feel off (and kinda half-assed) about the sim. The locos don’t really make sense for the route or type of service. The 218 is an older diesel loco that doesn’t run IC services as it’s too slow. The 186 is a freight loco that is rated for 160kph and can theoretically run passenger services but also doesn’t make much sense as it doesn’t go up to 200kph which IC services on the high speed line between Cologne and Aachen would do. Then there are the coaches. On first glance they look pretty good but from the outside they are first class coaches but the seating and interior is that of second class. There is definitely not as much attention to accuracy as in other train sims. I know the route pretty well from real live and it does look good and pretty accurate, even slightly better than the TSW version in my opinion. But there are quite a few sections where you can really tell that it’s just imported from map data without anyone polishing the scenery by hand. For example at 19:28 and 20:34 you can see the terrain is really messed up and low detail. I really hope this is just an early demo and not representative of the level of detail and accuracy that we can expect from the final product. That said, any competition is going to be a good thing for us players and I hope especially DTG is starting to feel the pressure! Edit: added time stamp

DTG needs as much competition as it takes to make them step up and deliver with what they claim to deliver. I just wish a US developer actually stepped up and did US rail content only let DTG keep wasting US players times with promises of content only to be just more commuter and NPC freights running around with zero ability to operate. Hell I enjoy all the routes but enough is enough I hope this new game ends up being an absolute banger it looks damn good but until it’s fully released and isn’t released broken.and bugged and half the quality of graphics then they show in trailer/demo

@@jthe_railfaner2643 because there isn't a lot or they just aren't interested Or it's not financially viable depending on the team size. Smokebox for example is a 1 man team so it wouldn't be worth it financially to create content for tsw when it already takes him a while to make it in tsc and even said he doesn't earn enough money for the work he put in. I've read from the forums that 3rd parties like high iron and dtm have started messing with unreal engine in their spare time. But I've heard lots of mixed things about them. I don't think they are even official 3rd parties in tsw so it will depend on if it is really viable. Searchlight sim hates dtg with a passion so we won't see them ever coming.

@@jthe_railfaner2643 they only care about profit. As trainsim is a very niche genre and the majority of fans are based around Germany (especially) , Germany-based content is likely to sell more hence profitable.
