Funkiest note in the world for the win! So good…extending the pentatonic up and down the neck in all positions is an amazing tool, especially when you realize that you just extended the major pentatonic at the same time. :)

Rich, you did it again! Thanks to those variations on the Am Pentatonic, you helped me find the missing piece to a solo break I do at gigs during a James Gang tune....I've been jacking around with that like crazy, but using what you showed in the video, it fell right into place. Thank you!!

Hi Rich! Thank you so much for this video! I shared with you before that I taught myself bass at the age of 61, 3+ years ago now. I've studied music theory very hard because I need to understand how notes fit together in order for it to make sense to me. I've watched your Mother of Pentatonic Exercise video multiple times. After watching this one and the pairs, I watched the mother again. It finally sunk into my old brain. I LOVE playing bass and I want to be good at it. Your videos will help me do that. Thank you so much for what you are doing! I really appreciate you! Would you consider doing a series about chords on bass? ❤🙏

Rich you've really expanded my repertoire of licks with your lessons on pentatonics, and I've been playing for some time now, thanks so much. I've used these positional concepts and applied them with natural/harmonic minor scales (took some time mapping them out, but I gutted through lol) and it's helped me come up with some seriously rockin' riffs. Plus, the FNITW really crosses genres, it just always sounds good to me. Another tip of the hat to you sir.

Hi Ritch , man I love your instructional bass lesson videos, I abserved in many of your videos I can hardley hear the notes that you are playing. I don't Have a hearing problem and I don't know if any of the other people who watch, and listen to your videos mentioned this to you before now:but I can hardly hear the notes that you are trying to teach us. Man you are one of the best bass teachers that I know the way you explain things, and makes it seem so easy and simple to do. I love that. So is there a way for you to make the notes that you are playing a little louder? so we can hear them better? Thanks man keep doing nwhat you are doing ,people like me need it. God bless .

Thanks so much for the kind words and the feedback. I do find my videos are generally quieter than that of other channels. Not sure why that is, but I'll work on bringing you more bass moving forward. Thanks for watching! ✌🏾

Colin Evans you are a great teacher with relevant material. The only thing that is missing is the act of utilization. If you would, after each presentation, do a short application you would have reached a crescendo of a good presentation. People want to know how to use the new knowledge.

Thanks so much, Michel. I taught myself to play this instrument through listening and observing. Most of the time I'm not sure if these ideas are mine or if they're common knowledge. I'm just teaching what I learned the way I first learned it. It makes me so happy to know you appreciate it. 🙏🏾❤

Another way to think of this is Dorian minus the 2nd when the fnitw is added. Btw, i think the funkiest note in the world is 2 notes, the minor and major 3rds together like peanut butter and jelly. Oh yeah, and i gotta review pentatonic pairs, they sound so good.
@schm47042 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. Sounded like Dorian to me.

Hi Rich. Thanks for this, your pentatonic workouts have been a great help to me. Have you done any videos on your fingering? I watch the way you swap between 3rd and 4th fingers with interest. is there a recipe we can learn for this?

Half question, half observation - saw a video on using the CAGED system for solo’ing on guitar. Figured there should be an application to the bass, and using only a 4-string, I found it to be useful in trying build out shapes to use all down the fretboard. Wondering if you’ve encountered this “system” and if you saw value in exploring and sharing its potential application for us bass players. Thanks always for the great content.
@richbrownbass2 жыл бұрын
I don't think I'm familiar with this system. I'll look into it. Thanks for watching.
