It's good to see another update on Sylvester, I was wondering about him the other day. He defo looks way better than when you first got him! Hope your idea of a fecal transplant works for him, and that all three of these beautiful babies can make full recoveries.

Sylvester does look better then the first time we saw him! I hope the “poop transfer” will work 🤞🏻Seen it done in the horse world with horses that have bacterial issues in the gut area. Maybe you need to do it a few times to get good results. I am rooting for Sylvester! He stole a piece of my heart ever since I first saw him❤️ Doing great work Kevin!!👍🏻👍🏻

He's still a beautiful snake, I'd still adopt one a little bit disfigured, if anyone asked, I'd say : 'Its a rescue snake, poor thing, but I have him now... " gently petting him while changing the subject.

While it sounds like Sylvester isn't completely healed, I have no doubt you will get there! The brightness and life in his eyes is incredible! I've been so curious about the water snake you caught this summer. Would love to see an update on her! ❤❤

I am a zookeeper and we do something similar with ruminants here at the zoo. Ruminants are even toed ungulates, such as cows, goats, giraffes, etc) when they stop eating or are showing signs of gastric distress we will swipe a cud from a healthy animal and give to the one in need. It is tricky work because usually swallow whatever in their mouth when approached 😂

Incredible, a fecal transplant saved my life from c. Diff. We had to do it at home because this was in 2006, before it was popularized in the states; a Dr. Borody from Australia sold me the protocol for $100. The hardest part was finding a donor that wasn't raised around cats due to the toxoplasmosis. It's incredible to know this procedure helps the animals too!

I was actually going to recommended you try fecal transplanting from from one or two of your healthy snakes (but before you actually administer the sample to do a quick fecal examination on it just to make 100% sure it's free from everything!). Now when we did these at my practice thee doctor would the sample and put it into a couple gelatin capsules to give to the patient as they wanted to reset the short and long intestinal track and as that is where the bulk of the issue was, not so much the descending colin as the food has been digested & processed by enzymes and bacteria at this point and waiting to it help move it out which is slow if theres no water in the body.(It's been awhile and that was with dog, so... take what you will, and that is just what I remember about basic GI tract functions and where flora is needed in the trans plants ...) I would recommend you try giving the a probiotic and for a couple of meals they may be too weak to digest prey items, have you considered and I HATE tube feeding any animal, but... try something like Critical Care-Omnivore, and maybe some Tums- 2 hours before to coat the tummies? have you considered they're nauseous? have you give anything for nausea? if they're having GI issue they might be feeling acidic, urpy, and no one wants to eat or even look at food when they feel like that....especially animals they won't touch food and force feeding can even create food aversion! I can't remember if Famotidine( Pepcid AC it's 1mg/kg) was snake safe, but if it is please try some! especially with Sylvester. Famotidine for the acid, Tums to coat the stomach& sooth it, CritCare as easy to digest meal that you could easily put probiotic and even a prebiotic in and gently restart that GI tract... I have found that after a significate GI upset other animals respond well to a gentle tummy restart that along with the fecal transplant could really help one or all of these snakes. I'm just trying to offer ideas you Ideas, I know my experience isn't with reptiles, but it is with a wide range of animals not just cats and dogs that I've had as patients; I loved caring for the handful of reptiles I've gotten to over the years- and I actually started watching YOU because you seemed like a great recourse of knowledge for what to do! My fingers are crosser for all three snakes!!!

The fecal transfer you spoke of is, in theory, similar to what is done in cows with gut issues. In those cases, good gut fauna is taken from a "donor" cow and put into the appropriate stomach chamber of the cow that needs it.

I've worked with a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist. We would make a poop slurry from a healthy donor, (us techs called it poop soup), and basically give it like an enema to inoculate the GI tract with healthy bacteria. In some cases, it took 2-3 treatments before it helped.

I'm sure that you're looking into pre and pro biotics, and have already done full x-rays. If the cloacal transfer doesn't work, a last ditch effort could be to take some of the feces and insert it into pinkie mice. The gut will digest the pinkie, and move into the upper intestine with the fecal matter mostly intact. If the snake takes a very sudden turn, it may be hypoglycemia crash. In that case, tube feed glucose solution in small doses every half hour or so.

I can certainlly relate to not really knowing what else to do for your snake. my hognose just *refuses* to take food on his own. he's bright, mosesies around and will drink - but in the three years I've had him he's only taken one pinkie by himself. Vets don't.. relly have an answer? he did have a URI when I first got him, but we were straight on it with antibiotics and other meds, his fecals have been checked many times, his husbandry is pretty immaculate (if I do say so myself), he sheds perfectly, he other wise is healthy and active - so I just.. continue to assist feed and hope that one day he'll just *take* the pinkie. hoping the best for these beauties, all three of them are gorgeous

Looking forward to seeing if the fecal transfer works. I've been learning about it the last couple of years, and wouldn't mind trying it for myself:) One lecture i watched on it was for dogs, and they talked about how they had far greater success "cleaning " the gut of the recipient with ozone (hose up the backdoor...), as reducing pathogens that had overgrown do to the gut imbalance, really helped the new healthy doner bacteria get a better, faster foothold. Fascinating subject!
