Dang Michael, you get anymore chickens, Perdue or Pilgram’s Pride is going to buy you out. Take care and have a blessed week my friend.

You are lucky, all 26 my hens stopped laying eggs since 5 days ago, I don't know if it is because we only have 9 hours daylight- if you can call the dark clouds and rain, daylight at all. I read online that they need minimum of 12 hours daylight or they won't lay♦ It could be a survived chick as it won't come join the others if it didn't know the place - i think☺

Michael, when do you think you will need to get more egg laying boxes in the Red and Black hen coops? Do hens that want to lay an egg try to push another hen out of a laying box if the other hen is just "squatting" in the box? Or do they just try to find a place on the ground somewhere and lay their egg there? How may boxes do you think you will need for the 15 or so hens in each group?

@japanham5973 Hens will wait on their favorite box. You could have 10 boxes and 30 hens will lay in only 2. I am planning on building my own roll away boxes soon.

@@WatersFamilyHomestead So if 30 hens will lay in only 2 boxes, when the hens lay the egg will they, in a certain amount of time (short?), leave and let the next one get in and drop their egg? (about how long do the stay in the box after laying...on average (idea?))

@japanham5973 usually as soon as she drops the egg, she will get up and leave.
