DNA probably looked at all that and realized where he might end up in his twilight wrestling years and went, "Nope. I'm good." If they'd promoted it less as a wCw tribute and more a legends tribute, as the organization title implies, it might have gone over better. Plus, it did seem like there was enough there for Jimmy to attempt to follow up on, but it eventually fizzled out. Quite the gig for Starrcast. Congrats!

The "recent" wrestling footage from Memphis (mentioned around 6:30 minutes in) was actually from an early to mid 2000s Memphis wrestling promotion called... Memphis Wrestling. Promoted by Corey Maclin (with Jerry Lawler's fingerprints all over it) the promotion aired in the classic 10AM Memphis timeslot and was partly responsible for the Clash of Legends show from about a year after this event. A show mostly remembered for the Hogan/Paul Wight match. Memphis Wrestling also had a weird storyline where the promotion feuded with... XWF. In 2004.
@mrterp04

Ohhh so THAT’S what that show was called! I mostly know of it thanks to Paul “The Great” Wight’s infamous reaction to being referred to as The Big Show-“that’s my sl*ve name!”
@Chronic10101
@Chronic10101 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrterp04 Yes! Wasn't going to mention that tidbit, but yes that would be the same company. Memphis wrestling from the 2000s is a very odd slice of wrestling for many reasons outside of that but that's kind of the most well known moments. Hilariously, the Hulk Hogan/Paul Wight match was actually supposed to be Hulk Hogan vs. Jerry Lawler, but because Hogan was contracted to Viacom at the time (thanks to his reality series) Lawler and a few contract WWE personnel had to back out. We need a video on that show, some interesting stuff about that.

Canyon coming out was done as tastefully as I could've expected from a wrestling show in the 2000s. It also confirms how cool of a dude DDP is in real life. This was also the biggest stage that would've let Canyon come out besides probably ROH It was only a year earlier that John Cena was calling people gay as an insult and years before that bullshit stigma around gay people subsided in wrestling. It was way out of left field, and they should've been a tag team and it should've happened after they won, but I doubt they cared about the booking on the show.

I’m currently watching this on my PS4 but I had to comment on my phone after I heard “Thunder Quality Match”. (Fuckin’ Hilarious) Just another reason why this is the BEST wrestling channel on YT.

12:37 I've seen worse, more violent falls in wrestling, but something about the way he bounces off the table and lands on the ground just made me go "Youch."

5:10 As a fan of Billy Paul and the Philly Soul Sound all I have to say is Thank you Brian, that would make Billy Paul Proud. Also will there be a video of your experience at Starrcast? 🤞

As soon as I saw Jake Roberts in the thumbnail, I knew that we were going to be in for a ride. This was Jake when he was still in the middle of his post-2nd WWE run (i.e. Heroes of Wrestling and Beyond the Mat)/pre-DDP Yoga/Resurrection of Jake "The Snake" trainwreck phase.

fun fact. as if 2020 wasnt a weird enough year i saw the steiner brothers and dory funk in a 6 man tag against 3 local guys at a local show at my high school put on by dory and his wrestling school here in my hometown. dory didn't take any bumps needless to say. fever dream and the first ever wrestling event i ever went to

Ok I love DDP again. I never disliked him and the diamond cutter was always my favorite finisher thanks to him and I was on edge involving his cult leader persona he's been cultivating lately. He had good intentions but having seen enough of that stuff I recognize the red flags and was very leery of him. But I love DDP again, that had major "cool uncle from a different generation still loving his gay nephew and telling his old school family to back off of him" energy. And I absolutely am here for it.

Quick: Make a "He booted him in the Taint" T-shirt before Cornette sends a cease and desist then publishing the shirt himself.
