The "recent" wrestling footage from Memphis (mentioned around 6:30 minutes in) was actually from an early to mid 2000s Memphis wrestling promotion called... Memphis Wrestling. Promoted by Corey Maclin (with Jerry Lawler's fingerprints all over it) the promotion aired in the classic 10AM Memphis timeslot and was partly responsible for the Clash of Legends show from about a year after this event. A show mostly remembered for the Hogan/Paul Wight match. Memphis Wrestling also had a weird storyline where the promotion feuded with... XWF. In 2004.
@mrterp042 жыл бұрын
Ohhh so THAT’S what that show was called! I mostly know of it thanks to Paul “The Great” Wight’s infamous reaction to being referred to as The Big Show-“that’s my sl*ve name!”
@Chronic101012 жыл бұрын
@@mrterp04 Yes! Wasn't going to mention that tidbit, but yes that would be the same company. Memphis wrestling from the 2000s is a very odd slice of wrestling for many reasons outside of that but that's kind of the most well known moments. Hilariously, the Hulk Hogan/Paul Wight match was actually supposed to be Hulk Hogan vs. Jerry Lawler, but because Hogan was contracted to Viacom at the time (thanks to his reality series) Lawler and a few contract WWE personnel had to back out. We need a video on that show, some interesting stuff about that.

Canyon coming out was done as tastefully as I could've expected from a wrestling show in the 2000s. It also confirms how cool of a dude DDP is in real life. This was also the biggest stage that would've let Canyon come out besides probably ROH It was only a year earlier that John Cena was calling people gay as an insult and years before that bullshit stigma around gay people subsided in wrestling. It was way out of left field, and they should've been a tag team and it should've happened after they won, but I doubt they cared about the booking on the show.
