I'm so happy with my Lake CX-238 X Wides. I tried the 242's and liked them but ended up with the 238's and just love them. Having the width truly is a game changer.

another excellent vid... 'the product sells it self'. I haven't used Lake shoes, but will when my sidi wear out. I've been wearing swiftwick socks (both their wool & compression ) for many years and love them ! Thank George !

I think I'll try Lake's next. I used to use Bontrager's, but my foot would go numb after 2 hours. I have FLAT feet. Incredibly flat. I went to Specialized shoes, and did good with the 12.25 size. But I have been eyeing these for a bit.

Lake shoes, SQ-Lab saddles, Rim brake bikes. You must be some sort of wise cycling monk 😃. Btw. if Currex insoles doesn't fit I can really recommend Solestar insoles! I use then for years and Currex really doesn't do it for me

One thing I noticed going from Sidi to Lake CX238 - leather shoes keep your feet warm in cold weather. A much-appreciated feature during this colder than usual winter.

As a point of interest .... a few years ago I purchased the 237 wide and found them a bit sloppy so then purchased the 237 standard which was fine. The interesting thing is that the carbon sole on the wide & standard was exactly the same, so the 'wide' bit was just adding more leather on the topsides to increase the volume. This would not work on a walking shoe, as part of the point in having a wide shoe is to spread the load underfoot - this is not so relevant perhaps in a cycling shoe but still important in my view. Therefore I think Lake are cheating a bit with their wide label. As a follow up .. I now have the 238 standard which is an improvement, using so far as I can see the same sole as the 237 but with a more boxy toe area. I would certainly like to see a meaningful specification of bike shoe widths, akin to the E,EE etc that some walking shoe manufacturers use. Another thought ... one of the most popular footwear items on the planet is the Birkenstock sandal - just compare the shape of that to the average cycling shoe ?!

Hi George! I know you had at one point wore the CX403. I also have two pairs of 403s (45 wide) and I am looking to get a pair of 242s for the really warm days. I was wondering if I should get the same size in 242 as my 403, of if I should go up or down in size given that the lasts are different. My feet are 277&278mm long and 110 wide and Lake sizing guide recommended 44.5 for the 403, but they were too small and had to go up to 45. That's why I'm wondering if maybe 242 in 44.5 would fit, but hoping you could offer some insight. Thanks in advance!

I really like Lake shoes, for me they are the only shoes worth considering. I use wide leather shoes, then use a stretcher to get a little extra width. I have switched to flat pedals, and really wish Lake would make a flat sole.

check out the MX201 and MX169. They have cleat slots, but you can put a cleat slot cover in place of the cleat and use them with a flat pedal.

Pretty good. Been there. Inflamation sucks, increases as our hgh declines. Liver weakens, or both. Feet get wider,then bunions start form, so figure out whats causing the swelling. I found completely removing my cycling specific orthotics and foot beds gave me the room I needed in my Shimanos. Lastly, found forefoot strengthening worked miracles on all my old age related foot issues to the point where I feel greater balance in my cycling shoes because the toes are spreading more effectively, putting spring back and better full range of motion in pedal stoke

Giro lace-up shoes have a wide foot bed too. The upper is softer than any other shoes I've used. I have gotten back to riding for hours in comfort since using them. The Fizik shoes I was using before my foot surgery caused so much pain after the surgery I needed a new shoe. I bought Rapha lace-up shoes and they were better but the Giro now are even better.

Thank goodness I’ve never had issues with shoes. I have a set of lace up Lake cycling shoes and they are wonderful. I love lace up shoes. Unfortunately, most people don’t understand the value of a lease option.

It’s not a thing. Don’t worry about how much your shoes weigh … please! Worry about their fit and don’t worry about how much they weigh.
