I try to share with the goats my 3 for 29 at Caldbeck or my quickfire 65 for Edenside versus Cockermouth but they just bleet, the sheep next door (on Tom Jones' farm - true, but erm not that Tom Jones) just baa.

@@SandersteadCCTV My son graduated a year ago from UEA and I'm pleased to report that the cricket club is still flourishing. He played three years in a strong 1st XI perpetually frustrated by weather-enforced April cancellations and unscheduled Wednesday afternoon seminars, but they did well in the BUCS outdoor championship and excelled in the indoor competition, reaching the national semis. Most important of all, though, the standard of post-match refuelling remains pleasingly high...

@@SandersteadCCTV Some people are so good and powerful and authentic at what they do that they inspire everybody to be better, transcending the boundaries of their art. 07:07 I had to return to this episode. As I was mucking out the goats it struck me were I had seen this building before. I thought I had almost got over the trauma, only for it to repeat itself, rather like a new Geoffrey Boycott biography. It was when I was doing national service in the Victor Trumper Medium Foot Dragoons. I was 'volunteered' to be part of an escort for a contingent of prisoners being taken to their fate. "Don't ask their crime" our beloved Sarge, Barry Wood, whispered, his gold teeth gleaming, "don't even look back". The desperate band were hustled through the gate, their chains clanking, by hand picked members of the RAF Regiment led by Captain Brian, call that a bouncer, Close. As our lorry drove away, the gear box whine only seeming to add to the silence I did glance back. I saw the white walls, I saw the razor wire and the tiny windows with their inch thick glass and I also saw the sign..... 'The Alan De Knott Penitentiary for backward square leg fielders who persistently appeal for LBWs.' The howls and whimpers of the inmates haunt me to this day. I take solace in the calm and tranquility of our goat barn hidden deep in darkest Wales.

@@SandersteadCCTV TV Well as I have already mentioned my intention to go through your videos and pick out the choicest pieces of commentary with a view to compiling a book - 'The Wit of Dan Allan and Sanderstead CC'. No jokes about it being the smallest book in the world etc. Once winter sets in here, usually late September, there is not much to do around here apart from wait until spring, usually come about mid June. So this makes an ideal winter project, I did an NVQ last year. I would suggest, though I suspect you have probably read the stuff already writers like Peter Tinniswood, Herbert Fargeon and, of course, A G Macdonell's cricket match in his book 'England Their England' for inspiration. The little whimsy above is heavily influenced by Tinniswood.
