Twice this year I've set up to buy one of these old gals in decent shape and condition. Both times I've been screwed around dealing w a less than admirable human being so it didn't happen. Just picked one of these up for $200 off a dude down the street from me. He thought he blew the motor but I had it running in less than an hour. Spark plug was fouled out, gas tank was full of dirt, and the carb was dirty as hell. It starts right up and runs great after I fixed all that, but it smokes a little bit on high revs. Probably needs a top end rebuild

I use to be against zip tie stitching but if done properly they hold up really well, plastic welding works too but I find it makes the area that was repaired more brittle(heat takes the flexibility out)and likely to crack or create a new crack. Also I couldn't make out if it had any but the ends of those fender cracks should be drilled out with a small drill bit to "end the crack" this will prevent it from cracking more.

Schneids15 here’s an idea -how to install Heat Demon heated grips www.kimpex.com/en-ca/products/atv/heating-accessories/heated-grips 4th setting is way too hot! Had these on my 02 king quad. I paid 210 usd plus whatever it cost to install. Had several things done at the time. Plow hardware install, (2) 4” hid (driving lights with ballasts self contained)wired in-35watts. Tabs welded to front rack so they could be bolted under rack. I used Odyssey PC680 and hooked to trickle charger after every use(keeps battery in tip top shape& prolongs the life). Make sure the diaphram on the petcock is not broke. You will find gas in the vacuum line and it will not run.

I have a question I was riding my quad 300 to my deer stand earlier. And started smelling wire burning and by the time I got to my Stan smoke was boiling out from around the gas cap and the gear shifters what wires under there could be shorty now I didn't have any tools with me so I had to break the light cover off to get to the battery to unhook the ground to stop it before it caught on fire I got it towed back to the house I haven't yet started working on it but I was just wondering what wires under and around the gas tank that could have been shorted out smoking like that

Honestly i would re connect the battery and wait for the smoke to pin point the issue. Or you can likely find it due to seeing where it already melted. Your main harness goes through there and you shouldn’t have an issue finding it.

Hey, so I've been looking to your videos for alot of advice and instructions on rebuilding my 1995 King Quad 300, and what I'm struggling with right now is the trip knob next to the speedo. It says there is a screw in the middle, but my screwdriver just won't grab ahold of anything. I have small jewelers screwdrivers. Any advice? Great channel. Have a 2001 I’m working on. Do you have any idea what size the bolts are for the pull start cover? All but one had worked their way out (figured out after the crazy rattle sound I was getting). Appreciate any help!

I would be a long shot on that one. However these machines are all metric and easy to guess. I would say about a M6 bolt and not very long. You could shove something small in the hole to get a length.

What would couse my 1997 King Quad 300 to blow the oil cooler? I have replaced it with two different used ones. But it acts like it has to much pressure.

That’s very odd. I think the oil pump is only capable of something like 4/6 psi or something like that. I would check and make sure the lines are free flowing and not plugged first. Check the strainer on the bottom of the pump for debris also if there was a plug in the line somewhere.

Some ppl put oil in the filter and do not squeeze out the excess. Suggest you take out the excess or replace and see if it becomes oil soaked again.

Should not be a vent hose.. just vacuum line. Straight to carb.

My 1988 doesn't have the pump in the petcock. It gravity feeds to the pump by the LF wheel, then pumps to the carb

So could loose engine valves sound like a loose cam chain? My quadrunner 250 is clicking allitle like the cam chain is loose. I dont know how to tighten that, but could it be the valves or do they sound different.

I would start with your valves. Cam chain can’t be tightened. I take feeler gauges and bend them 90 degrees on the tip. Leave about 3/8” out on bend and it will go through the cap on the head no problem. It will quiet your engine up i am sure.

I may have to get you a video. Basically there is 2 caps on the top and bottom. You need a set of feeler gauges and have to set your engine at top dead centre to set them. Then you have to set them at a certain thousands of an inch. I don’t know the specs off hand. If it is not bad i would just leave them. Up to you though.

No i have never. Heard stories though. It can be in a gear in the drivetrain that causes it. Some seize and some have had stuff fall in them that comes loose apparently.

@@Schneids15, thanks for the response and the info! It does tend to heat up quite a bit. Enough to really feel it through some jeans and it’ll make you want to get off of the bike. No oil light just yet, but I definitely want to keep it from overheating and will be considering an auxiliary fan along with performing maintenance, repairs, and tuning (inherited these problems from previous owner). It’s just a quad runner 250, but it really is going to serve as a work-horse on our property and we are excited to use it. Thanks again for the info and look forward to the release of new videos.

I always get FRUSTRATED when working with the carburator/the rubber air tubes and the air box. It's is so tight and awkward to get those rubber air tubes seated right!

That has to be the worst part of the job and why i have tested without them on. Found out they run way too lean without the intake piping.

I just bought AA suzuki quad runner 250 4wd it only pulls in super low range. It runs and shifts fine but doesn't pull at all in low or high range. Any idea where I need to start? Hmmm hard to say. I am thinking it may be a bad clutch slipping. If it has the wrong oil the clutches will burn out.

No problem. Mine aren’t actually hooked up. The guy i bought it off had LED in. If i were you it sounds like your setup would be pretty good but jusg get square led lights like auxilary tractor or snowplow lights etc, and they fit right in. The guy i bought it from had it bolted in the factory location even.

hey josh mike here again.. how you doin? so i figured id do an oil change on the 91 kq300 that i just got just so i know its new and fresh haha but i was having problems with the gear shifter not coming all the way back up when shifting down.. so that was another reason i wanted to do this.. anyway when i took the fill cap off.. the oil was all the way almost to the top!!! i even noticed in the site glass that it was way full! so i dropped the oil and dang i couldn't believe how much had come out and it smelled like gas??? is that a bad thing? i kinda been stressing on it but it did sit for a long time too..when i got it i tore out the carb and cleaned it really good so that's done im about to fill her back up with some good oil! what do you think? thanks josh much appreciated! your videos have helped out a lot thanks again! mike

Hey Mike! Damn good you did an oil change. Yes if your carburetor needle didn’t seat or that vacuum line diaphragm in the petcock was broke gas kept over flowing from your carb to your motor and filled it. Get some fresh oil in that and fill it. I would run it for a while and i bet your shifting will improve once it is lubricated again.

@@Schneids15 right on josh yeah that's what i was hoping it was.amd. i'm hoping it doesn't fill up with gas again! i did all new fluids in everything just finished her up last night! im supposed to go on a ride today so i should know by then i'm just hoping for the best.. what's also really crazy to me is there is only 207 miles on it!! i feel like that not even broke in lol but i could be wrong maybe someone changed the cluster i'm not sure i think there was only one owner and it just sat.. I didn't get all the parts with it... its missing a few things nothing serious from keeping me from riding it tho and mine its blue like your other one it just has no graphics on it which is weird to.. who really knows .. im even missing all the little knobs for handles.. so i made my own for now they work pretty well!..along with the mud flaps there none on this one haha.id like to send you some pics but im not sure how to! anyway thanks josh much appreciated! you and your videos have been such a help again thank you and thanks for taking time out of your day to get back to me! cheers buddy mike

Yeah same opinion. I would not be scared to try one. If the diaphragm and stuff internally is cheap you can swap the mik parts to it. Or just buy a new float from suzuki.

My 94 gets hot easly. The radiator is hot or warm so the oil is running through it, I put a small cooling fan on but it still gets hot. I have changed the oil temperature sender. I'm wondering if the oil pump is weak. It has 4800 miles and starts and runs well. I'm thinking of putting a new oil pump on but I don't know where it is or how hard to change. You say it is above the screen on the drain plate. Any thoughts would be great, thank you

Hey Tom. Check out my videos and check your oil pump strainer. Mine had that issue and the strainer was clogged with old gasket material. The machine ran really cool after i cleaned the strainer.
