It's funny that they were both 50/50 on it. MBT screwed up the placement in Game 1, but fixed it in Game 3. Alex got it right in Game 1, but screwed it up in Game 2.

One of my favourite tech choices this format was Spell Shattering Arrows. Non-targeting destruction of Resort & Last Resort, usually chained to the opponent's Sleeper, when it targetted itself. That way you can get them to blow up their whole field.

My first Cimoooooooo video was a Top 5 Decks of the Forrmat for that month. Alex talked about SPYRAL and he thought it would EVENTUALLY become good, just need a bit of time. Two days later, SPYRAL RULED THE WORLD!!!

My favorite Spyral story (I don't know if this is true) is that when the OCG made Double Helix, the TCG branch came back to them and basically said "Wait, hold on, are you sure? This is like, REALLY broken. Maybe we should tone it down a bit before we release this." And the OCG branch said "Too bad it's already being printed." OCG just goes all gas no brakes.

I could imagine it's because you need to draw it in your opener because otherwise your opponent use drones so you can't draw it as 6th card. And if this deck is played correctly you need the battle phase in the mirror to kill your opponent, because this deck can generate so much advantage that he could play through your board

Neither deck was playing set rotation but set rotation was a huge part in why evenly matched wasn’t played. Being able to just turn off evenly and locking your opponent was massive. Also the loss of the battle phase and still having to play into sleeper wasn’t great either

Sad thing is, back before MR4, I fell in love with SPYRAL. Such a quirky deck with so much personality and a unique gimmick. Sure it was underpowered, but it was standing up for itself alright in casual settings. Now, the deck is eternally stigmatized by its tier 0 time. I can’t even run something gimmicky like a beatdown variant without feeling kind of mean.

It's interesting seeing Spyral in it's prime, I never really played during this time but I remember watching Octopimp play Spyral in Master Duel back during Master Duel's release and being surprised at how strong this archetype was and being even more surprised that it could be stronger.

Looking at these lists, it’s quite clear to see that the T0 aspect of Spyral comes from literally everything BUT the Spyral cards. - Pre-Errata Firewall and AFD - 3 Terraforming - 3 Set Rotation (turning off Evenly Matched) - 3 Gofu (free starter) - MR4 benefitting Spyral especially I’m surprised people still say Spyral was a T0 deck when in reality, it was good by accident.

If you define spyral double helix as just a powerful link 2 (or 3 if the payoff is good) belonging to an archetype sure. But double helix is archetype specific in both effect and materials, does the archetypes gimmick, and the archetype can make use of it.

In the context of a Link that cheat a card from the deck to the field without any kind of restriction Halq: Technically a "Crystron" card but it is just a generic "synchro" support (as it doesn't limit to only Crystron card as material or SS target, and people end up link climbing with it) Mecha phantom beast: Link 3 that cheat an archetype card from deck, but it can't be used as link material (tho it doesn't matter it just end up enabling the synchro for being too generic) Anaconda: Well this doesn't cheat a card onto the field, nor is it archetypal. Again this is just a generic fusion support To me Halq and Anaconda is more like a support for "synchro" (loosely) and fusion for MR4. Mecha phantom beast is the only archetypal card and it isn't really (since the material is generic)

So this is before the gameplay, but TECHNICALLY, there was a moment in time where for like 3 days (It was expected for longer but didn’t know the 11/6/17 was coming) the deck had tri-gate cause the cyberse link structure deck came out 11/03, so this deck was fucking brutal with ANOTHER Omni-negate and REMOVAL going second, so the deck was EVEN STRONGER than the lists here. Thankfully Konami wasn’t letting that shit exist

Ya see, Johnny, it all started with DEUA as the start of the decline, PePe and Zoo gave the game a little push down the hill, then SPYRAL comes in and creates a huge downslope, followed by Gouki Extra Link/Gumblar hand loop/Firewall FTKs just yeeting the game off a cliff headfirst into the 7th circle of hell.

I think one of the interesting cards of spyral was tri-gate wizard. Its not out yet, but its funny to me just how much set up it requires, but because that setup is in the extra deck and not garnets in the main, it was over powered. There is the extra link with sleeper and tri-gate, but i always thought the sub optimal tri-gate and sleeper without the extra link was very funny. The biggest positive though is that im pretty sure after tri-gate was released and subsequently played, konami realized that negates are hard to print on link monsters and we end up seeing I think none until apollousa and even that is only monsters, non-removal, and has 0 left/right arrows which really helped tri-gate extra-link originally. Had we seen negates commonly on generic links, im pretty sure TOSS wouldve been a terrible format

Can someone explain why Cimo just will not begin his combos with Gofu? He did this last week too where he has an empty board and Gofu in hand but doesn't play it for some reason

It could be due to the fact that being MR4, you have to have some way to get rid of whatever thing you summon from the EMZ before being able to go into Double Helix. Otherwise you either leave them on the field (which admittedly you can use them as link material later), or go into synchro and skip double helix Tricky thing is there is no good generic link1/2 to convert those token into something useful. Both World Legacy link 2 and 3 have bad arrow (so you can't summon more Extra deck monster), and Decode/borrel lord/firewall all require effect monster. I guess you can technically leave gofu on the field for later synchro/link but maybe they want to keep it in hand for option later (e.g. Coral dragon to force out Sleeper pop)

Master rule 4: Monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck must be Summoned to either an Extra Monster Zone or a Main Monster Zone a Link Monster points to. SPYRAL Quik-Fix If this card is in your GY and you control "SPYRAL Super Agent": You can discard 1 card; Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field.

SPYRAL Double Helix This card's name becomes SPYRAL Super Agent while on the field or in the GY. Quik Fix was a legal summon there, if you mean the one at 32:45

Dueling Book: A manual dueling simulator. Since it's manual and between peers it's not an issue if cards don't follow the exact order of activation or are placed wrong until it actually changes the result of the game. Since it's a single extra deck monster on the field it's easy to remember you can only have one and if it mattered they'd move it into the EMZ like MBT did the second time. (cause Spyral Double Helix was pointing to it and that's a variable that can change if the card get's removed).

Just like Maxx "C" messes with this deck hard because of the draws altering what's on top of the deck, Sanctum shuffles after bringing out Scythe to do the same while keeping the extra deck nonsense from going out of control. And then with all the searching going on, Droll & Lock Bird is a main deck requirement only to further the misery. It's a good thing this was almost a decent deck before Double Helix or this format would have been even MORE miserable.
