Slashes aside, no one ever talks about Belle seeing the Prince's portrait. Without any dialogue and focusing only on the eyes, they make it so you can imagine Belle sees something familiar about the eyes in the portrait, since the camera zooms in on them before Belle gets distracted by the rose. Once the Beast becomes Human again, she once again looks into his eyes like she did with the portrait and finally realizes the connection that the subject in the portrait is the Beast's human form and and is now once again a man. "It IS you!"
