YES, I got in a hurry and made a mistake near the end of this video when I was demonstrating the setup for cutting an inside thread. Thank you to the viewers who pointed this mistake out in a constructive or humorous way. To those viewers who thought it necessary to include an insult, well I hope that made you feel better. Some comments have been hid just to prevent a pissing contest from developing. Ya'll take care & I'll see you on the next video.

Well, you know some people have never made a mistake in the shop and it really grates on them when they see one.

Thank you. You made it easy. Your explanation of the angles was good enough so that i caught the mistake. Thats why I read the comments. Just say you were testing us to see if we really understood it.

Well, I'm glad that I finally got to see your video after what I assume is three years. I certainly hope that you haven't stopped making videos. I learned a lot from this one, and have subscribed. Being an Electronics Engineer (retired) by trade, I do understand trig inside and out and have used it in my little shop many times in setting up my lathe, but actually I like your method much better and I look forward to hearing more from you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Plato once said: The beauty of style and Grace and harmony and good rhythm depend on simplicity.

Thank you for showing, Mr. Lee for those that can’t go one day without given a derogatory response, is because they are frustrated by the ones that will show them a better, simple way of finding a good way to complete the job at hand. FYI, when I went to Mechanical Engineering School, and any one student did not grasp the subject correctly, the professor will find a way to explain it well, your method was explained to us the same way you did in your video, with a big difference, we did not have a new lathe like yours, our was a South Bend original model 9” C, donated by the USA to the School. Thank you Mr. Lee have a nice and safe day.

What a terrific idea! It lead me to try something a little different. I chucked a 1/2inch rod. Then aligned the top slide using my old 30/60/90 triangle from drafting class. I put a 1-2-3 block against the rod, and set it on the slide. Bingo!

Very well done, thank you, I wish I had seen this yesterday, it would have saved me an hour of mental confusion before I got the angle correct for a taper cut.

I’m a newbie and I caught your mistake on the second setup, I read through the comments to verify and I was correct. The one thing that I would have liked to see on the second setup was for you to use a boring bar with a thread cutting insert on it because the way the tool holder was positioned, you couldn’t have mounted a boring bar. I did get what you were saying right away on your first setup enough to realize the mistake, so that’s a good trick I’ll remember. Thanks

Agree with your method Lee, you just make a blue on the second half as soon as you released the tool holder block. I will use the method. I normally put a bar between centres, but that only works if there isn't a job set up. Thanks mate Cheers.

You already have a perfectly good scale for setting your compound to 30 degrees in both directions for both internal and external threads, just think about it, would PM have made a machine that needed this much faffing about to do a basic thread cutting job?

Lee excellent idea but you should review the procedure you made a small error . :) just as a thought how is the dial fixed on the cross slid or is it one piece you might be able to swing it round so you can line up the mark's either way you swing the top slide just a thought . :)

At the minute 9:55 you are wrong, you should made the last adjustment by loosen the two nuts instead of loosen the quick change tool post

If you can’t do a little simple trig you have no business trying to be a machinist. An indicator against the tail stock quill or chuck face is by far the quickest and most accurate method to adjust the compound angle. Just use sine or cosine.
