These are gorgeous! Thanks for the information as well :) I've been teaching myself to draw...in my old age several years ago...and lately I've been obsessed with eyes, but realized it was mostly with the iris even more then the entire eye. I've tried to take pictures of my own just for a reference, but just using my phone, hand held...obviously nothing great...but it was fun to see all the little soft stingy bits in the blue and they look flowy though they probably aren't. Just one orange spot, but I think its just basically like a freckle on the eye. But, I'd LOVE to get a much closer look at it, to see the fine details, even though I'm sure there will be nothing like these amazing eyes you have here. But could be fun to draw detail of my own eye and move to also later adding watercolor. I did notice how hard it was to get a true read on my eye color...they're are blue, not the gorgeous bright turquoise of these eye here, but not dark blue at all. But in one spot them looked super green, in another I got closer to the natural color. Anyway, I'm just looking around for ideas :) in real bad health right now so this is enough to wear me out and definitely no money to buy a macro lense, but, one day!! :) Thanks!!!

Great video. I followed your guide but used an iPhone camera with macro lens and a mirror to make sure my eye was in the frame and also to set manual focus. And a torch as the light source. Pretty happy with the results - although disappointed that I don’t have ‘exciting’ eyes with amazing structures within them 😊. Thanks Jens. I love your videos. 👍🏽

Would you say in general it is "better" to have a dilated or a constricted iris? As in your videos you can see that in the dilated iris the structures are much more 3D as the "material" gets squished together.

Have you ever tried to use your Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens for iris photography? I'm thinking of buying the probe to use with iris photography but I don't know if it's suited for that use
@anotherperspective3076
@anotherperspective3076 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes I have, but I would not buy it for iris photography. I use it 95% of the time for macro video, not photography. The sharpness is not as good as "standard" marco lens (f.E. sony 90mm) and you have to get very close. Will you use the probe also for other things or do you plan to buy a lens only for iris photography?
@lionjewelsfashionaps3240
@lionjewelsfashionaps3240 2 жыл бұрын
@@anotherperspective3076 Yes, I was also planning to use it for other purposes, such as macro still pictures and videos of watches and jewelry. But I'm experimenting with Iris photography with my Canon 6D with my macro lens Canon 100mm f 2.8 The problem is that I don’t get enough sharpness in the pictures. And I was hoping that this Probe lens in standard edition (note cine edition) could do the work.

Sony90mm is great, but any 2:1 lens of laowa will also be a great choice as those are a little cheaper and offer higher magnification (I really would not go beyond 1;1 as the field of depth is then smaller than the height of the iris)

Thank you for your sharing. But I'm pretty desperate. I took iris photos with my smartphone (Google pixel 5) and a quality macro lens (moment). But I decided to invest in a real camera (Sony A7R2) with a macro lens (Sony FE 50mm F/2.8), a shutter release remote and a tripod. This material not that I am dissatisfied with the really incredible result that I could have with my smartphone (I have never seen anyone have results as good as mine with a smartphone), but to improve the ergonomics, personal comfort. With an invertible tripod, I am able to put the subject in a lying position, which is much more stable and comfortable... The problem is that after a few tests, with different settings (recommended on different tutorials), I don't I don't have satisfactory results, I know that one day I will find the appropriate settings, but for the moment this is not the case, I must provide a service in a few days and I will have to use my smartphone because I am not able to use my camera. I would love to find a photographer who can teach me how to use it and explain the settings to me. I don't have time right now to spend hours trying out different settings, and a pro could save me some time. I don't know, maybe the settings are particular on my Sony, for example we recommend ISO100 for the iris photo, but I heard that my camera with its CMOS sensor could go up more in the iso.. . I hope that someone could help me. 🙂

@@anotherperspective3076 Thank you very much for your quick response! I was using a continuous light (torchlight) for the photos I took with my smartphone. With the Sony, having done a lot of research, I chose to use a continuous light, because I found the remote flash system too expensive and difficult to set up. I'm thinking of replacing my flashlight (which was giving good results) with "articulated arm" macro lighting, which I can clip to the foot of my tripod with adapters, the advantage is that the light output is very small (therefore reflection minimal ), but maybe the power is not enough... I will send you a link to the lighting I use. PS: sorry if my English is not good.

@@wordofiris1130 what settings did you use and what iso?
@wordofiris1130
@wordofiris1130 2 жыл бұрын
The first ones I did with settings like: "1/100 f8.0 ISO100" or "1/125 F11 ISO100" were too dark. I was able to get something right by increasing the isos to 400, 800, and even 2000. But these are not very good results (Iris not clear, too bright, not enough detail etc) I know it would take patience, and I have to keep doing tests. But it's true only if I could find someone to explain to me. I am a very perfectionist and complex person but I also like simplicity. All these settings and these bad results are driving me a little crazy, I also currently have a lot of projects that take my time and I can't take the time to use my Sony device. It is for this reason that for my appointment I think I will use my smartphone, the comfort and ergonomics are very bad, but at least I manage to have good results. I will still try to edit my photos taken with the sony ... 🙂
