2021-22 Samsung Voice Input - Google Voice Typing on Galaxy phones

As of June 2021 this video shows the steps to toggle between Samsung Voice Input and Google Voice Typing on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

Thanks for watching and providing your feedback. Now in Dec 2022 the latest Samsung software updates have changed things even more and not for the better. Now in Keyboard list and default, there isn't even an option to turn on or turn off Samsung Voice Input. SVI doesn't even exist as a line item. It is simply the default voice input, and it will appear each time you use your phone regardless of how many times you manually select Google voice typing. Meaning, if you want to use Google voice typing, you'll have to manually select it each time in your messages or other app...once you've closed your app, SVI again becomes the default.

This was very helpful, thank you! I just had to de-select Samsung Voice Typing so that only Google was selceted. Then it worked. However I am wondering if the mic is always on? Now that I've turned mic on, and it is a darker color, it looks like it is always on when I go into typing a text.

Thank you for your question. Could you clarify what you mean by "Now that I've turned mic on". You've turned mic on where? If you're in your text app, then in order to voice type you need to tap the mic icon. The mic does not come on or stay on unless you tap the mic icon. Voice typing will not work unless you tap the mic icon.

It's called Dark Mode. Go to your phone Settings. Then Display. Then Dark Mode. Or, simply search for 'Dark mode ' in your phone Settings, as your phone may be different from mine. For KZbin to be Dark, first do the above. Then go to KZbin settings, then general, then Display, then Dark Mode

I'm no longer using Google Voice typing because it was going crazy putting in all kinds of different words that have nothing to do with any dialog I used in the past. Google Voice typing has gone crazy lately, and when signal is bad it even stops working. I don't know if it's Google servers, spyware or whatever, but I had tp disable it and switch to Samsung input. Now it's working much better now, so bye bye & forget google being to intrusive or AI driven to throw in stupid words. I have a new galaxy fold3 so there is no excuse.

I use Google and it works well for me. That could be because I've used Google voice for quite a few years so perhaps it's better at converting my speech to text accurately. The few times I've used Sansung voice, it did a good job.

Thank you for this video, it was quite informative as I really like a phone that does good voice input. The question I have is this. Does either google or Samsung voice input work off-line? That is, do they work when you have no connection to the Internet? I ask this because it’s always going to be faster if it’s being done locally on your device. That is going to be doubly true if you are on the road where your Internet connection may be dicey. If you’re not sure, can you or anybody please turn off Wi-Fi and data on your device and Try voice typing without any access to the Internet? This would be very helpful to know.

With wifi turned off and my SIM card removed, Google Voice Typing works pretty flawlessly. Samsung Voice Input displays 'No network connection' and won't let me voice type at all. Hope that answers your question.

@@CalifornianWayfarer it does. This literally increases the value of the device for me. I’ve lost count of how many times I will randomly choose to mumble in my message rather than type it for whatever reason that has come up here or there. Thank you.

here's how i came across your video. i've been using swype dragon with voice input for over a decade. a week ago when iwent to hit the microphone icon in the SMS messaging app the icon lit up and then went right back to saying 'taptospeak' when you tap it, it just flashes at you and there is no voice input. i realized that swype is defunct and it may no longer work after some phone updates. I downloaded another keyboard with voice input but did not like it's layout, i never liked samsung so i tried gboard. I didnt like that either. by the way, all the voice inputs on those apps worked. so i went to give samsung voice input a try but suddenly it's gone from the list. only google voice input is available. i searched apps, permissions, etc and samsung voice input isn't even onmy phone anymore. is that no longer supported either? i looked for it to download and can't find it, is it rolled into another app? i'm on day two trying to get samsung voice input back and this is driving me nuts. the phone is a 6 month old galaxy A52 5g.

Go ahead and allow it. I haven't seen that prompt possibly because my phone has that setting turned on by default.

If you toggle Samsung Voice Input on in Settings as I have shown in the video at 2:19 you will not get that error.

@@unsopken0623 I just replicated your scenario. When you get that prompt that Appear on Top needs to be turned on, tap Settings in that prompt. The appropriate Samsung Voice Input settings will open. Scroll down. 2nd from bottom is Appear on Top. It is set to Off by default. Tap it and then slide the toggle for Allow Permission.
