This ad is really special to me. My Dad used to work for Ansett when I was little, and I have so many memories of going to the airport and Ansett depot with dad and meeting all the staff. That was such happy times 😊 I used to hear this song all the time! It was terribly sad Ansett went out in the early 2000s 😢. My dad died 5 years after 💔 😢 thank you very much for posting this, it brings back all the happy memories 💕✨🌈

My uncle worked for Ansett too at Tullamarine, a couple of times a year he'd come up to visit us here in Sydney. In 1994 he and my Aunt had come up to visit us for the weekend when my dad got sick, they left on a Sunday and the next day my dad passed away. He heard the news about my dads passing while at work and immediately told his boss about the situation, they told him to relax and they'd sort out everything, they sent a car to my uncle's place to pick up my Aunt and flew them up to Sydney for free due to the situation. The plane was booked out so they rode up front in my Aunt in a flight attendant's spare jump seat and my Uncle in the cockpit. Like many staff members of Ansett he was devastated when the company went bankrupt, he struggled for years and went into and out of semi-retirement until he got his position at Virgin but for him it wasn't the same as the old Ansett days.

When I was a child, I used to go to the airport once a year with my parents and brothers. I used to see the 747s Ansett planes and QANTAS planes parked. I always knew there was something special about the airline or planes especially seeing the font and tails which were highly updated compared to the QANTAS in the 90s. Ansett was my favourite plane apart; they were blue which is my favourite colour. I never got the privilege to fly on the Ansett planes. They will always be my favourite airline in my heart.

Now those were the days in Australian aviation! How I wish I could fly the magnificent Ansett still 👍 What a fine, truly world class airline. So polished and on point compared to the competition. Always remember...it was not Ansett who undid all their impeccable work, it wad their final owners.

@therobloxiancola1063 жыл бұрын
@@martintheiss743 it might to be late, but hey had a variety of aircrafts that should of already been retired, plus with Air New Zealand trying to expand over the Tasman sea, ending Ansett’s life and Singapore at least try to help but the government denied it, people demanded Qantas to buy it but it was too big of a problem and can bring them down, at one point there were losing 1.3 million each day, Ansett collapsed in 2001 but its last flight was by a ‘new’ Ansett was in 2002, R.I.P ‘Ansett Australia’ 1936-2002

It's a great ad. It does give you an insight into the Australia of the mid-90s. Ansett, to me, was tapping into more than just the 'aspirational' consumer market. This ad showcased people who, even though they weren't known to us, had clearly 'made it' in life. The shots on board were luxurious, spacious, quiet. QF was sending brats around the world to sing Peter Allen at us, wanting to evoke that homesick feeling which is dissipated every time you step on board a Qantas aircraft heading home, but those ads didn't portray anything of the exclusivity of flying Qantas. Ansett, on the other hand, went all out.
@lunamickey7 жыл бұрын
LOL and who won?! Yes it was a grand airline but QF really tipped the scales with their ambush marketing during Sydney2000. AN paid a squllion to be official airline yet the opening ceremony and subsequent telecast was flooded with those 'brats' TVCs and it worked. AN didn't last another 2 years after that

Thank you for uploading! Remember the ads in which some of that footage was use. Also brings back memories, like the first time I was served ice cream in economy!, on an Ansett Australia 767-300 flight from Jakarta to Sydney. They were always very innovative, the first to use automated check in kiosks for domestic flights too. I wonder if they has survived their financial woes, what would they be like now..

It was a masterful ad series: it's almost as if Storms in Africa were written for Ansett. It used to be always playing when you boarded. Of course, flying on JQ and DJ now is a completely different experience. It's certainly cheaper, but it's not anywhere near as nice as it used to be on Ansett.

As a kid I loved to fly Ansett, being able to visit the cockpit and meet the pilots in flight, as well as the great kids packs they handed out. I also remember one of the ground crew put me up onto the engine cowling one time. I certainly remember the imagery of this ad too, and as an adult it seems it was a pretty classy airline. Just a shame I wont see it through grown up eyes.

@jasoncrawford53506 жыл бұрын
covoflyer There would have been without question. Virgin still absolutely would have come to Australia, Ansett being here or not would not have changed that. The only thing that may have been different is Virgin just may have stayed as a low cost airline as opposed to a direct competitor to Qantas
@michaeleyrephotography62644 жыл бұрын
Not so. I worked for Ansett Australia. Virgin Australia were on the ropes and struggling. Had Ansett been around a bit longer, Virgin would not be here. In fact, Virgin are not doing well at all, even now. They made the mistake of entering the market as a value based airline to then change their business model when they realised they needed the corporate traveller inboard, and so had to compete with Qantas.
