That you for this video. Years ago my wife bought me an Ansonia Mantle Clock, which unfortunately did not work right from the start. Many years later (today) I took the clock to the clock doctor, who fixed it right up. It was working perfectly - striking the correct bells for the hour and a single bell for the half hour. A week went by and as the clock doctor told me I proceeded to wind the clock. The left wind worked just fine. The right wind, however, would not wind! It seemed that it never lost any of its spring! So, I left the right wind untouched. A day or two later, the clock stopped. The prognosis (finally) ... the right wind winds up counter-clockwise... (who would have thought that?!!) Yes, had I found your video I would have learned that. I did discover that on my own finally - and turned the right wind counter clockwise - in amazement. The time had stopped. So I adjusted the hands "forward" - stopping at the 1/2 hour first - where the clock rang out 6 rings ... BUT it was only 2:30 - not 6 o'clock!! What?? So, fast forwarding, I found your video - and learned how to make the correction. Thank you.

I bought my own ansonia clock this weekend and the ticking makes me feel as if there is another being in my apartment. I live alone so I need the sound.

Thanks so much for this video! I inherited an Ansonia clock from the 19-teens and although it keeps time well, the chime was all out of sync. Now I get to amaze my children with my clock-repair prowess:-) Of course, my 10 year old daughter who fell in love with New Zealand while doing a school project will be delighted to learn my skill came from an "Auzzie".

Hi!!! Could I ask you if you have any idea of the value of the Ansonia mantle striking clock in your video? It's that I have one that is almost identical to the one in your video and I was curious to know if it was worth something or not

These American shelf clocks of the 1890s were produced in large numbers and are not yet greatly valued by collectors, although there may be some models which are more in demand than others. About three years ago I bought one here in England (via eBay) for GBP44.00; it is the 'Kensico' model, very similar to the one in this video and with the same dial and pendulum. More recently I have bought a New Haven wall clock of the same period for GBP26.00. Both were rather shabby but proved to be in full working order, even though both vendors had specified 'spares or repair'. As they are designed to be easy to work on, they make very good introductions to collecting for newcomers. - I am ashamed to say how long it took me to realise that I did not have to turn the hands of this type of clock forwards by eleven hours, in half-hour stages, every time I put the clock back from summer time in October!

Oops. Apologies to tatsuahmadmum. I went to reply to your comment but I accidentally deleted it. Great to hear it is chiming well.

That was pretty good. I just got my Grandfathers Gold Medallion Model 681. It is a new Ansonia clock, but I am trying to figure it out. There was no paperwork for it, so I'm flying blind.

Thanks for the tips. I've always been wary of turning chiming clocks past the strike positions; you've just confirmed my suspicions. I have an old Vienna wall clock my gran used to own; she would simply move the hour hand to put it back 1 hour in October then wonder why it strikes wrong. I stop it for 1 hour the next morning. (I also have a cuckoo clock which you can turn back.)
