White just like black is a meaningless category based on phenotype and even then, the phenotype varies widely even within race e.g. a "white" Norwegian looks different from a "white" Greek and there are lots of different cultures/ethnic groups with different languages, religions, etc. Then you have other hodge-podge categories like Latino/Hispanic which cuts across races or Arab, which seems to be a mixture of races. It's just that being able to self-identify and be identified as others based on phenotype as "white" gives you an advantage.

But, They would just as soon discard us if they could. But then...There would be nobody to clean their houses, Raise their kids, Sing songs, Entertain them on TV or ball field.

White lady here. I have noticed a really concerning trend of (my fellow) white people who have tons of energy for advocacy when it pertains to feminism or the lgbtqia community or gun violence or advocating for people with disabilities. I do advocacy work with a ton of them. (Advocacy is my full-time job) but when it comes to anti racism or issues of combating white supremacy, they immediately shut down. Even the ones i watched go to Black Lives Matter marches hit a limit when it comes to certain issues especially self reflection & admitting to their own racism & bias which is required in order to be actively anti racist. 1 example is Palestine. They had tons of energy for Ukraine a white country which had a fraction of the deaths & none of them were denied water & food,they never had all their hospitals bombed etc but when it comes to an actual genocide of brown people by white zionists its crickets. The amount of FAKE advocates, speakers social justice supporters is mind boggling. Thank you for your channel btw KZbin just suggested it to me & im enjoying listening & learning!

"White privilege" to me, means being used. Privilege is a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor. Anything that is granted can be taken away. Anything that is granted, has been granted by someone else. “If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.” ― Lyndon B. Johnson Greed doesn't care about those that have less. Greed says they have less because they didn't work hard enough or because they don't deserve. Greed makes excuses for those who have more. Greed justifies having more, by saying you are somehow favored or something about you is deserving of more, even if it is off the backs of those that work for you, voluntarily or involuntarily.

White is not a ethnicity. White in the english language is understood to be affirming of everything favorable. White means purity. Europeans refers to themselves as white because its more affirming of their power, divinity and superiority. They did not call themselves white based on their complexion because they are more pink than white.

@@KarenHunterShow Yes, it goes back to that whole "talking proper" issue that auspicious Black people get accused of by Whites (and Black folks but for different reasons). "Proper for who" was always the question. Who was it in comparison to, and for what purpose? Because of racism, Black and White people are in a constant battle of comparison. White people think they own "proper" english (despite what England has to say about it) and try to gatekeep everyone else based on it. It's a tool of meaurement that they use to rank intelligence, and the Black intelligencia (and the like) try to dispel that myth through the same rubric. That was why that caller assumed that you knew she was White based on her voice. She was intuitively measuring/separating herself out based on how "she" (vis-a-vis, proper White people) speak and how "you" (vis-a-vis, Black people speak). Right or wrong a lot of us know White folks set that awful standard, and many of us are practicing that same song and dance, in order to gain access. Its why code-switching is such a thing. Deep down, we know. Sorry so long, btw.

How does one answer the question; "What does it mean to be white?" on a 14 minute video? As a 68 year old white female with most of my life behind me, I was just wondering what I would say in that situation... holy mackerel, where to start? I do know one thing though that the caller doesn't. You sure can't tell what color someone is by talking with them on the telephone.

Start there...that last part. And then ask yourself why are you "white." It's fine to land on being white, but you MUST know how you got there. Know the history and be able to have a discussion about it. Most don't know. And it's the ignorance that is killing us.

There is a plant commonly called “wild rice" (Zizania palustris) that Native Americans in what is now the north-central US and adjacent Canada harvested. In fact, they still harvest it; they have the exclusive legal right to harvest wild populations (although non-Natives can cultivate wild rice for harvest).
