I felt you and Dr. Black read the room quickly, got to the point quickly, made the point quickly and still gave Rebecca some grace. Well done. “We get to say things without self examination”. This statement should help us all think.

To Black American Academia, where does the American native born black community go from here? We are at a crossroads where we could potentially be erased and replaced, where do we go from here? We are desperately lacking true leadership in politics and in academia, so where do we go from here? Our black American Politicians no longer serve us due to their Pan Africanist "global agenda", so where do WE go from here? The political party we have supported for well over 50 years has pivoted within the past 10 years and have focused it's attentions on advancing the hispanic community and illegal immigrants, so where do we go from here? The African and Caribbean politicians who we have voted into office ONLY address issues dealing with their particular ethnic groups, their particular countries, advanments of immigration policies, upward mobility for illegal immigrants and lgbtq agendas, NOT OURS!! So where does the American native born blacks go from here?

As soon as Rebecca said that incredibly overused cliché "I have so many black friends" I was done! It's almost as if she offered herself up as the worst possible example of a white-identified someone with no intentions of critical thinking or self-examination. And dare I say it, her name was Rebecca?! Prof. Hunter I thought you were pranking us 😌

This reminded me of the conversation you had with Jacqueline Battalora, when she explained that the "white construct" was invented in our laws. Dr Black is awesome! He and Professor Hunter bought this conversation to it’s core, critical thinking on the table. Miss Rebecca accidentally hit the call button, then became intimidated! That’s how crazy this country is! The Rebecca’s and Ken’s of the US, don’t want to have these real conversations bc they feel they have a lot to loose.

Ms Hunter, this has been up five months but I just found you. Thank you for your videos. If I may speak to the title, being White in America means you can expect to be rewarded for hard work, military service, taking classes, buying a house, whatever you do right, ... and only villains would deny you that. That's privilege, and isn't that heartbreaking.

That is part of the problem. We believe we can tell who is "white" or black by the voice most of the time. Some of this belief comes from our individual experiences being around a segment of the black (us) community and "white" community. A lot of it, however, comes from how this racially-biased and racist society have raised us. We were raised to think we can tell just based on voice. The more people I come in contact with, the more exceptions to the rule I have encountered.

I understood the term ‘white’ was introduced after the quelling of the bacon rebellion in Virginia 11:09 circa 1670-1680ish. It was written into law from England to differentiate between enslaved Africans and British or the Europeans.

0:40 Yes you can tell by voice the American who is of European or African descent. I always test this sometimes when I listen to jeopardy or wheel of fortune. I remember also recently when a technician came to check out our cable and the guy called that he was on his way and I was pretty very sure he was of African descent but when the guy showed up I was surprised because he was what you would refer to as that label called "white" and I was disappointed and when the guy was leaving I asked him where he was from and he said he was Canadian but I told him I am referring to his heritage and a can of worms was opened and I got a lesson in history on how far and wide this slavery thing went so in a nut shell his ancestry on the maternal side was an African brought on that slave ship, and I was right that he has that African heritage in him which showed up in his voice though he was born in Canada.
