I am a convert to Holy Apostolic Catholic Church, from Islamic background. This rebuttal is very informative, Trent. Those rehashed arguments from Uthman is a misrepresentation of Holy Bible. Comparing Holy Bible with quran is unfair as the latter has no chronological arrangements, a jumbled up messy product of human imagination. With quran only , you require Holy Bible to know the story of prophets such as Abraham, Noah, Job, etc. Or the 200 years later fabrication in the form of Hadith.

But your religion teaches that you and the Muslims worship the same God, Muslims are part of the plan of salavtion, and a "good" Muslim can be saved. So why are you acting so antagonistic towards Muslims and Islam? Are you anti-Islam or an Islamophobe? :) *But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator. In the first place amongst these there are the Muslims, who, professing to hold the faith of Abraham, along with us adore the one and merciful God* , who on the last day will judge mankind. Nor is God far distant from those who in shadows and images seek the unknown God, for it is He who gives to all men life and breath and all things, and as Saviour wills that all men be saved. *Those also can attain to salvation who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, yet sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do His will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience. Nor does Divine Providence deny the helps necessary for salvation to those who, without blame on their part, have not yet arrived at an explicit knowledge of God and with His grace strive to live a good life* . @YAJUN YUAN Paintings of her in christian catacombs and the „Sub tuum praesidium“ prayer can be both traced to (at least) 3rd century.
@kevinbartolen58812 жыл бұрын
@YAJUN YUAN Painting an honourable image of virgin Mary on a wall is completely different from drawing her in a children's book. Why would you even consider that as an argument? E. Lobel who collaborated in dating the papyrus said that it dates between 250-280. 3rd/4th century is the range that's cited the most often so don't cherry pick. Even if the papyrus were to come later it doesn't indicate that's the time when the prayer was first used. It could very well be a later transcription. We know that at least by the beginning of 4th century intercessory prayers to saints were already in use, so to struggle so hard against the possible existence of a Marian prayer from the same period is pretty futile. Also, the title of Theotokos was already used by the year 250 in Alexandria. Don't forget that in the gospels she is also given the title of Kecharitomene without even being baptized first. So your claim that Mary was considered „no different from other people“ is ahistorical but also non-scriptural.
@christislord46082 жыл бұрын
@YAJUN YUAN there is a difference between veneration and worshipping. Veneration is for humans. Worship is for God.
@kevinbartolen58812 жыл бұрын
@YAJUN YUAN Doesn't matter, kecharitomene is a word that was crafted specifically to adress and describe Virgin Mary. You're nitpicking. I agree that it's not the location of the painting that matters but the NATURE absolutely does. Do catacomb paintings havr the same nature as pictures in a children's book? Depictions of Mary vary from one to the next since we don't have a photo of her. It doesn't matter what she looks like but who she is/who's being portrayed. There are paintings of middle eastern, european, east easian, black Mary etc. Again, you're nitpicking instead of focusing on what actually matters. On the intercession of saints Methodius:„Hail to you for ever, Virgin Mother of God, our unceasing joy, for to you do I turn again. You are the beginning of our feast; you are its middle and end; the pearl of great price that belongs to the kingdom; the fat of every victim, the living altar of the Bread of Life [Jesus]. Hail, you treasure of the love of God. Hail, you fount of the Son’s love for man. . . . You gleamed, sweet gift-bestowing Mother, with the light of the sun; you gleamed with the insupportable fires of a most fervent charity, bringing forth in the end that which was conceived of you . . . making manifest the mystery hidden and unspeakable, the invisible Son of the Father-the Prince of Peace, who in a marvelous manner showed himself as less than all littleness” (Oration on Simeon and Anna 14 [A.D. 305]). “Therefore, we pray [ask] you, the most excellent among women, who glories in the confidence of your maternal honors, that you would unceasingly keep us in remembrance. O holy Mother of God, remember us, I say, who make our boast in you, and who in august hymns celebrate the memory, which will ever live, and never fade away” (ibid.). „Atticus, sleep in peace, secure in your safety, and pray anxiously for our sins” (funerary inscription near St. Sabina’s in Rome [A.D. 300]). “Pray for your parents, Matronata Matrona. She lived one year, fifty-two days” Cyril of Jerusalem: „Then [during the Eucharistic prayer] we make mention also of those who have already fallen asleep: first, the patriarchs, prophets, apostles, and martyrs, that through their prayers and supplications God would receive our petition . . . ” (Catechetical Lectures 23:9 [A.D. 350]).

Raised (nominally) Catholic, felt a strong attraction to Islam in college through studying ibn-Arabi and the early Sahaba on my own as I knew nothing about the rise of Islam, spent years practicing Islam without ever formally converting. Part of the attraction is a sort of pull towards my own background as a Spaniard, with Islam being a major part of our historical identity. So there were deep roots being formed, and it hurt to have to cut them eventually. Ultimately what brought me back to the Church was precisely this: Muslim apologists' arguments (and the style of the majority of them, which struck me as very salesman-like, except Shabir Ally, whom I really respect) didn't resonate with me and almost insulted my intelligence. Not to mention the issue of the crucifixion verse in the Qur'an, which is incontrovertible to me as verifiable historical fact. That weighed on me for a long time until I accepted that my aesthetic devotions did not override my understanding of history and reality. To me, God placed that single crack in an otherwise beautifully coherent system; for "he who has ears, let him hear." Great work on this, Trent.

Outstanding discussion! Very helpful! Your video setup looks fantastic! Regarding the preservation of the K0ran, there are over 30 officially sanctioned published textual variants other than the 1924 version of the textual variant published in Kufa in 796 AD known as the Hafs version of this book. Hafs was made the official variant version of the schools sanctioned by the Egyptian government in 1924 and is the most numerous. The other common variant is called the Warsh which was published in Medina in 812AD. These other variants are derived from over 5 generations of Readers and Transmitters from all across the Middle East during the medieval period until 1429, the last of which were chosen by al-Jazari. They contain over 93,263 differences in the text from punctuation and words to whole phrases. Early written Arabic was a consonant only written language. When vowel points, jots and tittles were added later, these additions introduced thousands of textual variants to the early manuscripts that appear across the Middle East. The texts contain significant evidence of tampering, erasures and additions to the texts in different scripts and ink color. Evidence textual tampering survives into the modern era in manuscripts. There is also significant evidence of the earliest manuscripts having a base underlying text that appears to be Syriac Christian liturgical songs that were modified by scribes to become Arabic texts we know today. This appears to account for the high number of unintelligible words and phrases and single use words and phrases that appear nowhere else. The high number of these words and phrases explain the high unintelligibility of the book with over 30% of texts unexplainable by scholars.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:03 📜 A discussion on videos by Muslim apologist Sheikh Uthman and the possibility of a live debate on Islam's truth. 00:45 📹 Analysis of Uthman's KZbin channel, where he engages in dialogues with non-Muslims, and Peterson's respect for peaceful dialogues. 01:56 💔 Muslim apologist's misconception that belief in Jesus permits sinful actions; Peterson clarifies that many Christian denominations disagree with this notion. 03:07 🕊️ Misunderstanding of Christian salvation; clarification that grave, unrepentant sins could lead to loss of salvation in some Christian beliefs. 04:17 📜 Interpretation of various Muslim views on salvation; differences in beliefs regarding salvation of non-Muslims and idolaters. 06:09 📖 Comparison of Muslim and Christian views on divine revelation; treating the Bible like the Quran and identifying selective contradictions. 07:30 💡 Peterson's argument that public revelation ended with Jesus, as he is the fulfillment of God's divine revelation, unlike later prophets. 08:53 🙏 Muslim perspective on Jesus' divinity and his role as a prophet; critique of the idea of Jesus as God's only begotten son. 10:17 📚 Peterson counters the claim of biblical corruption with evidence of numerous early manuscripts and early church writings. 12:46 ✝️ Explaining the Christian understanding of Jesus' relationship with God the Father and the concept of the Trinity. 15:04 📚 Comparison of Quranic and New Testament manuscript evidence; highlighting the extensive and reliable nature of New Testament manuscripts. 16:15 🔍 Questioning the lack of original Aramaic or Hebrew scriptures; Peterson argues for the reliability of Koine Greek New Testament manuscripts. 19:43 📜 Discussing the dating of early scriptures and their language; uthman points out perceived differences between various versions of the Bible. 21:30 📜 Claiming that Quran's preservation confirms what is correct and eliminates biblical corruption; skepticism towards verses attributing divinity to Jesus. 36:27 🌊 The Quran mentions the separation between fresh and salt water as evidence of divine knowledge. This, however, is a common natural phenomenon that was likely observed by people in various locations. 37:40 🌞 The Quran's claim that the sun and the moon each move in their own orbit isn't unique knowledge. Other ancient cultures, such as the Greeks, also had similar ideas about celestial movements. 39:32 🌌 While some Muslims cite scientific "miracles" in the Quran, these claims often involve reading modern scientific knowledge into vague or metaphorical verses, rather than explicit foreknowledge. 40:00 🌕 The narrative of the moon splitting during Muhammad's time lacks strong historical evidence. The Quran doesn't explicitly state he performed this miracle, and the claims rely on later traditions. 41:25 🌙 The argument that eyewitness accounts and oral traditions about the moon-splitting miracle are comparable to evidence for ancient wonders isn't strong, as there's a lack of reliable historical accounts. 44:57 📚 The Quran's descriptions of scientific knowledge are not unique and can be found in other cultures and historical contexts. The sources for these claims are often hadiths, which are oral traditions passed down over time. 45:13 🌙 Claims about the splitting of the moon in Islamic tradition are questioned due to their late compilation, lack of corroborating evidence, and absence in non-Muslim historical records. 46:08 🌄 Some scholars suggest the moon-splitting event might be metaphorical or related to the Day of Judgment rather than a physical occurrence. 47:02 ✨ Comparisons to other miracles like Joshua's command to the sun and the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima illustrate the complexity of evaluating supernatural claims. 48:26 ⛪ Apostles' willingness to preach the resurrection of Jesus, despite its counterintuitive nature, is contrasted with the context of Muhammad's claims. 49:48 📜 Lack of independent historical documentation and corroborating evidence raises skepticism about the moon-splitting miracle in Islam. 51:26 🌍 The absence of cross-cultural accounts and the daylight timing of the event challenge the credibility of the moon-splitting claim. 53:18 📚 An Indian manuscript mentioning the moon-splitting event exists, but it is questioned due to its origin, legends, and late documentation. 56:09 🏞️ Legends and historical sources from Kerala, India, raise doubts about the authenticity of the moon-splitting event and its alleged convert. 58:56 🎯 Muslim apologetics often focus on peripheral issues rather than the central claim of Jesus's resurrection, and the arguments for Islam's truth are considered weak. 01:00:18 🗣️ The presenter welcomes a debate with Sheikh Uthman about the truth of Islam and highlights the need for more sophisticated Muslim apologetics in modern discussions.

Is Taqiyya true?
@csongorarpad46702 жыл бұрын
@@c.g.jonesze9089 Of course it is! Taqiyya (sacred deceit) is a practice ubiquitus in Islam. In the words of Sami Makarem, PhD in Middle Eastern Studies: "Taqiyya is of fundamental importance in Islam. PRACTICALLY EVERY ISLAMIC SECT AGREES TO IT AND PRACTICES IT. We can go so far as to say that the practice of taqiyya is mainstream in Islam, and that those few sects not practicing it diverge from the mainstream. (...) Taqiyya is very prevalent in Islamic politics, especially in the modern era." - Al Taqiyya fil Islam (Dissimulation in Islam), 2004, p. 7. Not surprisingly, the definition of “Taqiyya” is itself part of Taqiyya. Shia muslims will swear that it simply consists in denying to be a muslim when someone might kill or torture you for it. Sunni muslims will insist that it's true, and that only shias practice it anyway: sunnis are trustworthy fellas. Needless to say, things are a bit different. Taqiyya is such a detailed practice that can actually be divided into several sub-practices: >1) Taqiyya: Denying to be a muslim or that a certain practice or belief is part of Islam ("Military warfare is not a part of Islam!") >2) Kitman: Lying by omission. Like not warning the police that a brother is planning a terrorist act, or quoting only part of verse 5:32 (that if anyone kills a person "it shall be as if he had killed all mankind") while neglecting to mention that the prohibition only refers to the Children of Israel and that the rest of the verse (and the next) COMMANDS muslims to kill in undefined cases of "corruption" and "mischief". Two words that muslims interpret VERY flexibly (any criticism of Islam and any attempt to halt its spreading is mischief and corruption). These are just two examples of their command to lie, in complete juxtaposition to Christian commandments to NOT lie.

@solacanonicascriptura61392 жыл бұрын
Then why does Trent Horn have to argue like a Protestant to deal with Uthman? It's actually Romanists who fall short, very short. Those same arguments in Trent's video can be turned back on your "Sacred Tradition". Wait till Uthman finds out that the first "infallible" declaration of the canon for you people was at Trent in 1546AD, he will have a field day with that. Did you see one of Uthman's videos where he made a fool of a Romanist couple and another of Steve Ray's "disciple"? The official position of your religion, where Allah is the same God and a "good" Muslim doesn't help either. *But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator. @@aahlstrom93 But it's not my opinion but that of your Popes, Bishops and Peter Kreeft. :) *Pope John Paul II* :We Christians joyfully recognize the religious values we have in common with Islam. Today I would like to repeat what *I said to young Muslims some years ago in Casablanca: “We believe in the same God* , the one God, the living God, the God who created the world and brings his creatures to their perfection” (Insegnamenti, VIII/2, [1985], p. 497). John Paul II, address at the General Audience, May 5, 1999 *Bishop Athanasius Schneider* : In some way, we can accept the affirmation of Lumen Gentium, but then we must give a long explanation. Of course, when a person sincerely adores God the Creator - as I assume the majority of simple Muslim people do - they adore God with a natural act of worship, based on the knowledge of God, the Creator. Every non-Christian, every non-baptized person, including a Muslim, can adore God on the level of the natural knowledge of the existence of God. *They adore in a natural act of adoration of the same God* , whom we adore in a supernatural act and with supernatural faith in the Holy Trinity. But these are two essentially different acts of adoration: the one is an act of natural knowledge and the other is an act of supernatural faith. The acts of adoration, and the acts of knowing on which they are based, are substantially different, *though the object is the same in that it is the same God* . The affirmation of the Second Vatican Council should have been written more precisely, in order to avoid misunderstandings. Perhaps it could be formulated in this way: ‘Muslims adore God in an act of natural worship, and thus in a substantially different way than we Catholics do, since we adore God with supernatural faith.’ Schneider, Bishop Athanasius, and Montagna, Diane. Christus Vincit: Christ's Triumph Over the Darkness of the Age. United States, Angelico Press, 2019, Pg 87-88 *Peter Kreeft* : Many Christians, both Protestant and Catholic, do not believe what the Church says about Islam (for example, in Vatican Il and in the new Catechism): that Allah is not another God, that *we worship the same God* . Once, after debating the existence of God with an atheist and having spent a good deal of time explicating and defending the divine attributes, I was approached by a Muslim from the audience, who said to me, "It does my heart good to hear such good Islamic orthodoxy. You are a Muslim, aren't you?" He could not believe I was a Christian, because, he said, "You truly know Allah." Apparently he had thought (contrary to the Qur'an) that Christians worshipped a different God. These misunderstandings had better be cleared up, or great battlefield confusion between friend and foe will result. Ecumenical Jihad, Ecumenism and the Culture War, Ignatius Press, 1996, Pg 30
The ironic thing about these deceptive Muslim apologists is that in their own sunnah (sahih Muslim) they have a chapter dedicated to their backward salvation.. Chapter 8 : The Acceptance Of The Repentance Of The One Who Kills, Even If He Has Killed A Great Deal Abu Burda reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There would come people amongst the Muslims on the Day of Resurrection with as heavy sins as a mountain, and Allah would forgive them and He would place in their stead the Jews and the Christians. Abu Raub said: I do not know as to who is in doubt. Abu Burda said: I narrated it to 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz, whereupon he said: Was it your father who narrated it to you from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ)? I said: Yes. Also in reference to genealogy, not one (legitimate) soul can connect Muhammad to Ishmael or anyone one for that matter even his own father Abdullah is in question some say his uncle was his real father. They have very strange way to attack Christianity but seem to lack thought in their own books that flip all their haughty arguments on its back. Either way notice how all their “refutations in defense and arguments and attack” are always done by “Islamic scholars or Islamic historians” etc smh we should know better when it comes to these supposed truths to take it with a grain of salt. They try to fit Muhammad in anything that has to do with someone recorded in the Bible to the point where it just now looks desperate. It’s ridiculous

Here is a quote by a non-religous scholar: “Essential Christian beliefs are *not* affected by textual variants in the manuscript tradition of the New Testament.” (Ehrmann, Misquoting Jesus, appendix paperback edition, pg 253) He admits here that the New Testament has been *reliably transmitted* , because he knows as a textual critic that 99% of the text has been reconstructed. The remaining 1% is completely negligible. Therefore, the muslim apologist is completely WRONG about the Bible. ___________ In addition, ALL non-religous scholars claim that Jesus DIED on the cross (not a twin). Trent, you're a fantastic apologist, but you can't approach Islam the way you do atheists or other Christians. Instead of showing why Uthman's claim is wrong, you need to show why his objection condemns his own prophet and books. For example, his first objection, where he falsely claims that Christianity allows you to commit any sin you want and still be saved so long as you believe in Christ, and he says he can't accept that. Well, he has a problem, because Muhammad said the same thing. In Islam, kissing the black stone removes your sin (Sunan an-Nasa'i 2919). Simply doing a good deed erases your sin (Quran 11:114), or you can simply say a bunch of prayers and be forgiven any sin at all (Riyad as-Salihin Book 16 Hadith 1419). Another example, on Bible corruption, the Quran affirms the inspiration, preservation, and authority of the Christian scriptures, as does Muhammad in Sunan Abi Dawud 4449. Nowhere does the Quran say the Bible has been corrupted.

Also, should we ask this apologist if he wants to become a Catholic apologist going up against heretics? 😂😂 He isn't doing too bad of a job on that part, the only issue is that he pretends heresy is Christianity. At least at the very beginning, because it's clear that he is very ignorant of ancient history and Christian teaching, as well as Jewish customs.

When one looks into Christianity and Islam, it is clear that Christians and Muslims do not worship the same God: 1) Concerning Jesus' Divinity: Christianity says Jesus is God: Mark 14:62; John 1:1-3, 8:58, 20:28; Romans 9:5; Colossians 1:15-20; Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 1:1. Islam says Jesus is not God, but just a prophet: Surah 4:171, 5:17, 72, 75. 2) Concerning Jesus' Crucifixion and Resurrection: Christianity says that Jesus was crucified and resurrected to atone for the sins of humanity: Matthew 26:28, 27:35, 28:5-6; Mark 14:24, 15:24, 16:6; Luke 23:33, 24:5-7; John 19:18, 20:1-18; Romans 4:25. Islam says that Jesus was not crucified nor resurrected: Surah 4:157-158. 3) Concerning Jesus Being Sacrificed for Our Sin: Christianity teaches that Jesus was the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the world: Matthew 26:26-28; John 1:29, 36; 1 Corinthians 15:3. Islam does not teach that Jesus was the Lamb of God and it teaches that He didn't die for the sins of the world: Surah 4:157-158. 4) Concerning the Trinity: Christianity teaches the doctrine of the Trinity: Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; Mark 1:10-11; Luke 3:22; John 1:32-34; 2 Corinthians 13:14. Islam denies the Trinity and teaches Tawhid: Surah 4:171, 5:73. 5) Concerning Salvation: Christianity says that we are saved by knowing Jesus by grace through faith, and not by works: Matthew 7:22-23; Romans 3:24-25; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5. Islam says we are saved by works: Surah 23:101-104. 6) Concerning God as Our Father: Christianity says that God is our Father: Matthew 6:8, 9, 14, 32; Luke 11:13; Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:3; Ephesians 1:2. Islam says that God is the Father of no one: Surah 5:18; 19:88-93 (In the Islamic tradition there are 99 names of Allah, and not one of them refers to Allah as Father). 7) Concerning God's Love for Sinners: Christianity says that God's love is unconditional and that He loves sinners and unbelievers: John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:19. Islam says that God doesn't love unconditionally and that He doesn't love sinners and unbelievers: Surah 3:32, 30:45. 8) Concerning Sin: Christianity teaches that God doesn't want people to sin: John 5:14, 8:11; 1 Peter 1:15-16. Islam teaches that God does want people to sin: Sahih Muslim 37:6621, 6622. 9) Concerning God and Deceit: Christianity teaches that there is no deceit in God and that God does not lie: Isaiah 53:9; Titus 1:2; 1 Peter 2:22. Islam teaches that God is the best deceiver: Surah 3:54, 8:30. 10) Concerning God's Spirit Indwelling the Believer: Christianity teaches that the Holy Spirit indwells the believer: John 14:17; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19; 2 Timothy 2:14; 1 John 4:4. Islam does not teach that God's Spirit indwells the believer. 11) Concerning Heaven: Christianity teaches that people are neither married nor given in marriage in heaven but are like the angels: Matthew 22:23-30; Mark 12:18-25; Luke 20:27-36. Islam describes heaven like a brothel, where men will have an eternal erection and will be given 72 virgin wives to have sex with: Surah 37:48, 78:33; Sahih Al-Bukhari 60:402; Jami At-Tirmidhi 1663, 2562 (Dar-us-Salam reference); Sunan Ibn Majah 4337 (Dar-us-Salam reference). 12) Concerning the Title of "King of Kings": Christianity teaches that Jesus is "the King of kings and Lord of lords": 1 Timothy 6:15; Revelation 17:14, 19:16. Islam teaches that the most awful name to Allah on the day of resurrection is the title "king of kings" and the most wretched and vile person in the sight of Allah on the day of resurrection is the one who is called "king of kings": Sahih Al-Bukhari 73:224, 225; Sahih Muslim 25:5338, 5339; Jami At-Tirmidhi 2837 (Dar-us-Salam reference).

@@TheCounselofTrent Well, yes. Because Islam is like a barbarian religion. It's followers find sort of sarcastic, "flairy" arguments more effective, over the thoughtful ones. This is how the majority of them think. Logically, the Islamic Apologist may be losing the debate. But as long as he shouted louder, was more sarcastic and delivered more insulting arguments+ ad hominem, the Muslims boast about how he "destroyed" the other apologist. To deal with Muslims or generally people from the Eastern World, western apologists need to adopt a firmer tone, a stronger tone. The seasoned Anti Islam debaters know this. It is the only way Muslims will see truth. They need to be "hit hard". If you act "soft", they percieve you in the same fashion. It is a cultural difference to keep in mind.

But your religion teaches that you and the Muslims worship the same God, Muslims are part of the plan of salvation, and a "good" Muslim can be saved. So why bother? *But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator. (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium Para 16)

@@solacanonicascriptura6139 Yes. And? It does not say that we worship the same God. It says "They PROFESS to hold the faith of Abraham".
