The actor Peter Wingfield who played Methos in Highlander at the age of 18 had all the grades to go to medical school but decided against it because he fell in love with the acting bug. In 2011 he began reducing his roles in acting and in 2015 at the age of 52, he went back to medical school, graduated, and now works as a doctor. So, I will agree with you that age is not a factor.

@@abbysands9510 I agree, the truth of the matter is people are changing their careers if they are no longer happy; gone are the days when you had to work in one career or in the same company until you retired. Nowadays people are changing careers or changing companies. I know a guy who changed their career from a software Engineer to a journalist, and I have also read about a woman who worked in customer service who took up a Bootcamp course in web development and now works as a web developer, I have also seen videos of people who gave up a 250,000 dollar salary at Google to work on full time on their youtube videos. It is never too late to reinvent yourself no matter what age you are. Ps The best people are lifelong learners

As a 31 soon to be 32 year old woman in grad school, I think it’s pretty absurd that society expects young ppl to pursue higher education at such a young age (early to mid 20s) Due to the lack of life experience and maturity level, I just believe that as you get older, you’re naturally more focused and disciplined, I just can’t imagine how difficult it is to be disciplined in the same way that a 30 something or 40 something would be in college in general!

Oh my goodness - THANK YOU. I've been stressing about this for a while now. I started (community) college fresh out of high school, all while taking care of my mother being her caretaker as well. Because of being overwhelmed, I eventually had to drop out. Finding jobs here and there in between, I'm now 29 wanting to go back to school and have been feeling ashamed of being older now.
@Academiacaramelcurlz
@Academiacaramelcurlz Жыл бұрын
@@HoneyPastry don’t feel ashamed. I was shamed by some but the truth is that tons of people go back even into their late 40s and 50s. Life happens and college is pushed back ten or more years. If you desire a higher level of education, get it and feel proud doing it. Not everyone is fortunate enough to go to school for whatever reason, and I sincerely believe that “older” students make the best students! And I say “older” because let’s face it, 20 and 30 year olds are still young! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ouf. So now I don't know who I am anymore. At least taking language classes of the country I am half of made me realize how hard school is for me. So maybe I wouldn't have finished, again. At the same time now I wish I had the chances. But it's getting awkwarder.

I used to worry about age factor when I decide to return to school. On average, I am 7 years older than my fellow classmates. I would say that there is a gap but with the experiences I carry, I just dismiss anything I don't like and I do feel more free when I do that. I can be hard at first but you will find those who will be on the same energy level with you and it will be worth the wait.

I returned to higher learning at the age of 47, with professors younger and less worldly attempting to introduce knowledge to the teenagers and twenty-somethings that I shared the room with. I think being the mature one in the classroom improved the situation because we bring an element of calm into it. The fact that we have experienced more and have overcome the immaturity and impetuousness of youth lends a certain gravity and depth to our presence in the room. It can have a subtle effect because we don't find it necessary to 'show off'. Sometimes it even influences the behavior of younger students.

I can totally relate when you told that you do prioritize and complete the work that you intuitively remember. That sheds a whole lot of stress, if there's a good amount of buffer time left before the deadline. Anyways in such cases luck plays a huge role, and that's why I like your ideas on the correlation between luck and efforts too which you talked about during the first few minutes of the content. Great video, relatable answers. Thanks a lot. I'd love to meet you someday! :)

Pondering cloths - and simplicity; I wear black socks, t-shirts, etc., and more - when I replace any of these, I seek out the most comfortable brand and replace them all so I do not bother to think twice about 'matching' socks, etc. I cannot begin to explain how such little things eat away time and mental focus...pondering time wasted times decades. Within that foundation - I can then do/be any context of presentation I am inspired, or just keep a simple 'uniform' of sorts of both comfort and function. (I'm feeling really nerdy as I write this.) Anyway, best regards. Love your content, as I see - over half a billion others+ do too. (Just noticed).

I don't really know what to say.. but I still got a lot from this video :) It's nice knowing that I am not alone in feeling "old" or overly self-critical because it gets the best of me more than I would like to admit. For instance I am currently in my last year of high school, and it just feels like a draaagggg. I see the same people often and I want to try being friends with them but it just feels so unnatural for me to do it, because it is "too late", I don't want to get too attached to anyone and then like cry when I graduate because I won't be there next year, and I am not good enough, or they aren't good enough for me in terms of what little I know and see of them. I think I also feel rather embarrassed to have very specific thoughts and feelings that are tangled over each other so I cope with it by knowing what I do like, and what's comfortable: self-learning and spending time with myself. A part of me even wants school to be online so that I can go back to what was familiar and more comfortable during the lockdown, because that was when I really discovered myself and hit a peak (but also rock bottom) in my life. I do still want to do things OTHER than work and studying, but so far, I don't want to do it right now, and I think that is completely okay. It's hard for me to live my ideal life right now because of how squished it all feels, in terms of time and commitment. I already get hours of sleep on the weekdays, and it's hard for me to fully commit to being more social and doing things outside my comfort zone because of COVID and my mental health. It was just so comforting to me to hear that age doesn't really matter, at least not for you, in med. school as it didn't really hinder your ability or chance of making friends. I am not planning to work in the medical field or go to med. school, but I'm still going to uni soon and it is nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time, the way I am anticipating it rn. I think I will have a good year, and to be a little clairvoyant, an even better one next year as I will be in a new environment and circumstance that is more in favor of my personality, values, and strengths. The only issue right now is motivation, as I do not feel a reason to get A's or even B's in my classes, even though I have been a straight A student from elementary to junior year of high school. I need my GPA to be a specific number for an Honors application I'm filling out for a college, and I can't get below a C as it'll result in automatic rejection, literally, but I don't think I will get that low. I still want it to end so I can move on, but I must be patient.

Being a little older and having life experience yet not being so old that you cannot be flexible, accept guidance and learn means you will likely find your early years as a working Dr and student Dr more comfortable in clinical engagements. There is a lot of social licence you will gain with patients who will intrinsically trust you because you are older and likely have more "adult" communication than your younger peers.
