Hi, thank you guys for all your videos, they have really helped me out. I have a 1983 Ford f350 with the 6.9l idi, it's a truck I got for $200 from a friend of mine who owns a big farm. it has been sitting for 5-10ish yrs probably, but a pretty straight truck overall. the odo says it has 54,000 miles, so quite low. I started with an IP rebuild as it was full of varnished fuel and gunk, replaced transfer pump liner & blades while I was at it. put it back on and it fired and ran REALLY rough for about 20 seconds. moved on to injectors, rebuilt them (because I just like trying to fix stuff, not buy new ones). they were full of dirt too. after cleaning them I rigged up a pop tester but it kept getting dust in it that would mess up the spray pattern (I was working in my wood shop) and most of them would just squirt, not even pop. so after getting frustrated, I just decided to throw them together, made sure they all let fuel out at about 1900 psi, and put them in the truck. so it would start and run really well for a while (billowing white smoke like no other) then once it ran for about 4 mins it would just shut off and it would not even show a sign of starting until it was cold again. after some headache I found that it was when the temperature switch would turn off the fast idle and cold advance that the engine would shut off. I narrowed it down to the cold advance. if I hotwire that cold advance solenoid, it will run flawlessly all day long. (I already checked the wiring to make sure that fuel shutoff and cold advance weren't switched, and everything is wired correctly. I advanced the timing about a nickel's width or more, thinking that if it will only run with cold advance, then that must mean that timing is too retarded to run without cold advance. (note that the IP was already advanced a dime's width when I got the truck, so now it's advanced a little under 1/8" from the factory timing line). now with that advancement it will run till warm then die as it used to, but after cycling glow plugs I can start it again and it will stay running if I keep rpms high. if it goes too low it will die. sometimes even with it floored it will go down and die. also when it gets warm the billowing white smoke will go away mostly and turn to a bluish color, but still blows some white when revving. Sorry it's a big essay but you guys seem like you could help me. I suspect that my problem is just the injectors, I should probably just buy new ones cause they could still be squirting not popping like they should. Thank you

My 1983 Cadillac coupe deville 5.7l diesel question..if my shut off solenoid has less than full 12 volts or battery voltage will that cause starting issues or is that more metering valve??
