I feel you Scott! Same thing happens to me all the time. Fake naturals are a huge reason for these ignorant comments.

+AlphaDestiny or you're just completely ignorant. Saying if you don't row 2 plates within a year of training you're shit etc.
@MrElias979 жыл бұрын
+fillip smithy Rowing two plates within a year is actually really really easy, especially if you're using a little bit of body english.
@fillipvas45099 жыл бұрын
You think so ? Ive been lifting for say, 9 months now. I do bent over rows with abit over a plate on each side.
@MrElias979 жыл бұрын
fillip smithy It's probably a mix of programming, form (Can be a bit "too strict"), can also be that you're a pretty small person in general? Individual biomechanics and strengths also com into the equation. If you're a smaller lifters, of course you're gonna have a hard time moving big(ger) but with good programming and hard work ethic most people would be much stronger than they could ever imagine.
@MrElias979 жыл бұрын
fillip smithy For example, i have a workout partner who weights around 65kgs, and he can row around 80kgs with a bit of body english and a little over 1,5 years of lifting but around 0.5 years with bad programming.

I'm new to weight training, just a few months in really. When I started searching for tutorial videos on form/technique, nine times out of ten one of yours popped up. main thing i think that someone needs to have to qualify to give fitness info is to actually be fit themselves. Don't have to be the best at anything but fit in general. You also always go over perfect form and what not to do so I can go into the gym, do a great workout and come out without injuries. You hit the nail right on the head. A lot of other channels with meat heads suggest a bunch of hooplah to get big fast when it's pretty obvious that anabolics were involved in their lifting journey. Also, no other channel is brave enough to challenge the status quo by giving an unbiased analysis to various supplements (ie: caffeine gene video). You apply a lot of thought and genuine care to your content. It shows, and we appreciate it.

Yea, good old confirmation bias will always run rampant. I've wanted to get bigger for a long time, being a fairly skinny dude. But, in the great words of Ronnie Coleman, "don't nobody wanna lift no heavy ass weights". Scouring through fitness channels on KZbin you find there's a lot of massive people. What surprises me however, is the amount of people juicing who say they aren't. This gives a bit of a warped perspective on whats obtainable for most guys... This is why I prefer your videos Scott because you can lift heavy, but you're not the size of a truck; you still look like a human. My best advice to anyone getting into the gym is: Focus on consistency first. Getting into the habit of going to the gym, even if you're not smashing it on the weights. Is the best thing to start with. When you build the habit of going, it becomes enjoyable. Then you can start to experiment with pushing yourself harder and harder. Getting fit and gaining muscle is a lifestyle choice, not a quick fix change whenever you fancy. And if you base advice you listen to on superficial reasoning like what the person looks like, then I feel sorry for you that you can't tell the difference between good and bad information.
@alysterwoo62759 жыл бұрын

I've been subscribed to both channels for a long time and have never commented on a single video. I watch a plethora of videos and channels, and this channel is the most informative in my opinion. To give fitness advice, I believe a person needs years of experience with dieting and lifting. With Scott being a personal trainer for years, that also is an important key. I've had rotator cuff and AC joint issues for months, and the only thing that ever helps me out is his injury prevention videos. This channel is a foundation for people seeking information, and if people want more depth, (which there usually is plenty), info can then be sought elsewhere as well. People shouldn't complain about EXCELLENT FREE ADVICE.

Their logic is if all your information is correct then why are you not bigger/leaner or have been at one point? If you are applying this information you know then should you not be more developed? A more extreme example would be somebody completely out of shape trying to tell you this information, it just would not seem very credible.

Someone who actually knows what they're talking about, someone that gives practical, logical advice that I can apply to my own training or diet is qualified to give me fitness information. Someone with experience who practices what they preach in their videos. Anyone who says you aren't absolutely swole or qualified to teach fitness information is out of their mind. I'd give my left nut to wake up with a body like yours or to even have half the information you know. That isn't possible, but what is possible is achieving my own goals and learning more with each day. I continue to do so thanks to helpful channels like yours. So thanks Scott, I really appreciate what you and other actually beneficial fitness channels do.

Well said +ScottHermanFitness , some people just have a genetic advantage when it comes to getting huge, and with the accessibility of online PT courses these days, where any idiot can become a PT within about 6 weeks after not having interacted with or been assessed actually coaching someone in real life, it's no wonder that there's so much poor information out there from so called 'experts'. This just supports what you were saying about questioning the validity of information coming from guys just because they are jacked. This community needs more people/trainers to be honest about what they know to be true/effective based on a critical evaluation of the scientific literature and equally, topics they really aren't sure about. Subscriber since 2009, keep killing it superman.

Hey Scott! I love you! lol You are in the gym world as how I see myself in the guitar world. I have been providing guitar advice / tuition advice for 20 years. Am I the "best" guitarist in the World? No. But I have spent 20 years studying my trade and passionately passing that on to help others. I am about to start a fly on the wall vlog and the biggest thing I worry about is the haters who want to trash me or undermine my effort. I think its when you are passionate you get effected by negative comments. For what its worth I am SO glad you exist to show realistic natural development. My kids look at some of the videos of "bodbybuilders" and they are SCARED I will ever look like them - I explain to them that they are drug addicts who are incredibly unfit and have no interest in health. I tell them not to worry - I am not a drug addict! I show them your videos and they go "ahhh ok - you can look like that Daddy!" OK.... Keep up the great work and thanks for the inspiration. I have been training hard for the past 7 years and if I can just shed a few pounds I reckon I will be looking ok next summer! Thanks again.

You are one of two bodybuilding channel that I follow and been inspired by Scott. Your body doesn't look like drug bag but like hard trainer. I believe everything come out of your mouth and I can see that you are excited about what your body became and you want to help other to experience the same. Keep doing good work.

Hey Scott. This is my first time commenting on your video, but I have been watching most of them, just want to let you know that so far you're the only trainer that I trust. Unlike many other videos from other trainers. Most of the days when I few rather lack of motivation, I'll watch at least one of your videos, that kinda give me the boost. lol

Hey Scott, BIG fan of your videos. It's true you may not be as huge as some of the other youtubers, but I'd rather be taught by someone who isn't concealing their steroid use and who is making natural gains. In my opinion the three things that make you a valuable teacher are: 'experience' (teaching us from past mistakes and areas of improvement), 'knowledge' (knowledge is power right?), and as aforementioned 'trust' (which is built between the student and teacher through honesty, like the fact you've been honest about your natural gains, and the unnatural gains of other body builders). Keep up the great work Scotty! :)
@delta_slayer42128 жыл бұрын
Just someone that is natural who has been going to a gym for atleast 3 to 4 years. I'm 14 so I like to listen to all of the advice people offer me and see what benefits me the most.
@michaelritchie76089 жыл бұрын
Very well said. Everyone has the right to give 'advice', and all advice should be listened to and respected. However you do not have to agree with it and you are responsible and accountable for what advice you take in and apply. The best advice (in my opinion) is always to keep educating yourself as you can never stop learning :)

I think there are times that comments reflect more of the person writing the comment than that which is being written to. With that being said, thank you Scott for solid advise and your obvious discipline to get your body to where it is now......keep up the good work!!!

1: someone can give another person fitness information if their intentions are positive and they actually want you to become a fitter person. 2: if this person tells it in a positive way. Love the vids man, I learn a lot!!!

Bro, for someone whos not on the juice you are big. And shredded. Im more than happy to watch your vids for advice and just general info that you put out ther. The people saying that you shouldnt be making these vids coz your not "big" enough or strong have no fucking idea to be honest. keep the vids coming bro!!
@lukegray79369 жыл бұрын
I have a degree in Exercise Sport Science and two personal training certifications. All that being said you don't know shit about fitness without gym experience. The only people I "qualify" to give me fitness advice is people who have years, yes years, of successful gym experience. Scott you're the man!

There are always haters out there, don't worry about those dense people that hear what they want to hear. Keep doing what you're doing Scott, which is education the masses on overall fitness. I agree with every major point you said this video. Qualifications on giving advice come from education and research, not on finding out what works for you and thinking that applies to everyone.
@ScottHermanFitness9 жыл бұрын
+darkaiso You got that right man.

Scott, thank you so much for making this video and I wish all those people you mentioned in the video will watch this and think about it. I came to fitness from being a fat ass (excuse my language) to be who I am today. I have had people came to me for training and nutrition advices so I have to make sure that I know what I'm talking about by keep learning and learning and learning. Thanks for the help and the motivations Scott. Greetings from Utah ;)

I'm starting to get serious about fitness so this is a question I ask myself a lot. The two main things I look for from someone who gives fitness advice are that safety and long-term health goals are a main goal, and someone who is willing to admit when they don't know something.
