PROTEIN OATMEAL / ICING RECIPE:
50g Old Fashioned Oats
1 Cup Water
1 Whole Egg (you can use egg white if preferred)
40g Protein Powder (I use PEScience Chocolate Peanut Butter or Chocolate Mint), divided
20g Hershey's Dark Cocoa Powder, divided
25g Fage Zero Fat Greek Yogurt
Add oats to a microwave safe bowl. Pour in 3/4 cup water. Microwave on high for 80 seconds. Add remaining water, stir and microwave for 70 seconds. (Keep an eye on it so it doesn't boil over!)
While that's microwaving, grab 2 small bowls. In one bowl, add 15g protein powder, 5g dark cocoa powder, and 25g Greek yogurt. Set aside. In other bowl add 25g protein powder and 15g dark cocoa powder. Remove bowl from microwave and add the egg. Stir until it's completely mixed in. Then add the ingredients of the bowl with the 25g protein powder and 15g dark cocoa. Stir until it's completely mixed in. Place that bowl back in the microwave for 60 seconds. While that's in the microwave, add 1tsp water at a time to the other bowl with 15g protein / 5g dark cocoa powder / greek yogurt until you get it to a thicker icing consistency.
I like to mix the oats when I take it out of the microwave. Then I take a little bit of the icing on my spoon along with some oats. It's delicious!

One of the Karolyn’s Kake Academy members shared a video link a few months ago for how much fondant to use to cover a cake. Bottom line, the formula it recommended for grams of fondant needed to cover a cake tier is: A) 300 (for a short tier) to 500 (for a tall tier) PLUS B) EITHER - (for a round tier) 100 multiplied by the diameter in inches OR - (for a square tier) 150 multiplied by the width in inches Karolyn’s Kake Academy is the best! For the fondant toppers, I found online somewhere that if you put them in the oven with just the light on it helps them dry faster. I don’t depend on this method but every time I’ve needed it, it’s worked.

Good video Karolyn! Spot on! I love the "Nope" on the phone. I have a folder in my email. Its the "Do Not Sell Cakes To" List! Dont piss me off....I will put you on the list! My husband and I also do this thing after a PITA customer. Remember Seinfield Soup Nazi? We go, "Ding! Next!" And usually after dealing with a pain in the butt customer, the phone rings again and theres another wonderful customer on the line who plays nice and respects the cake. Always...RESPECT THE CAKE!😂😂

Forager is great, but please always check your state’s cottage laws directly on the state’s website. There were a few small discrepancies between what Forager had and what was actually allowed. Can’t be too safe!

Great info Karolyn! I get the non skid roles from the $1.25 Tree and they always helps to keep the cakes from sliding in my clients vehicles. They love it lol!

Good questions and good replies! I think there is ONE question that no one has ever answered to solve this problem, it might not ever me solved😞 It is when you ice your cake,put it in the fridge and then go for a second layer or "touch ups" the color of your icings changes to darker spots, it does not matter what color you use, I guess it happens due to the temperature differences, but what can someone do about it!? It is so annoying haha, maybe this can be a future question🙂

That's because the icing color deepens as it sits! If you have to touch up your cake, the icing will be slightly lighter, but will deepen to match over a day or two. I just did this last week! Is that what you were asking?

@@KarolynsKakes Thank you for your respond🤗 The thing with my cakes is that it will still have those uneven spots that is darker even 1 or 2 days later🥴 I always make sure to blend very, very well too. Unfortunately I have not been able to solve this problem unless I ice my cake without a crumb coat, ice it only once and then done🎂,

When I was employed in the restaurant business I had a rule to never where I worked. They gave away free meals to their employees. I couldn’t afford that all that restaurant food everyday.

OMG😂, I love your Marshmallow fondant! It works for me❤ I just have to remind myself to leave time to let it dry Otherwise I got a problem. Well, I worked out in the military but all the work I did was hard on the body :-( I’m paying for it now. So,I just order my kids around taking care of what I need😂 “❌ ❌- NOPE!!😭

Omg the summer months are the worst for cakes. No one realizes how fast a cake can fall apart in the heat. I hate when they want to pick up the cake but a lot of people don’t want to pay that deliver fee.

Hi Karolyn ! I love watching your videos and I learn so much from them ! I have a question ! Are there any subjects that you will not touch on moral grounds ? I am just a hobby baker but I have been approached in the past to make a cake with a drugs theme (cannabis) I just told them point blank no ! I would also not do cakes of a sexual nature.

A year and half in, I still don't even know the proper consistency of buttercream lol. Like is it better with more liquid so it's soft and goes on easily? Or just somewhere in between stiff and soft.

I did recently put that daisy pic in the background! And I like it to be between stiff and soft. If it's too stiff, it won't spread / adhere to the cake. If it's too soft, it won't hold its shape. In the Summer when it's humid, I need less liquid than in the Winter when it's dry. In the Winter, I may add 7-8 Tbsp liquid, while in the Summer, I only need 3-4 Tbsp!

I have a stupid question lol. I started making a cake which was originally intended just for my husband to take to work with him, but then we suddenly have a bday party to go to on Saturday so I thought I’d make the cake for the bday party instead. I made the cake and froze it on Monday, layered, filled, and iced on Tuesday. It’s in the fridge awaiting decorations now. Is this cake going to be ok until Saturday??

Yep. It will be fine. The thing I don’t ensure it stays moist is adding some simple syrup to the cake layers right before I fill and stack them.

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO ATE PEANUT BUTTER PROTEIN OATMEAL😳. I literally could and have had it for dinner. I utterly love the flavor but use the peanut butter and chocolate sparingly.

😂😂 I don't like gum paste, it dries out too quickly and starts cracking while I'm working with it. I get a similar result from the MF / Tylose, so I just stick with that.

I’m so lucky. I don’t like sweets. I’d rather have an olive than a piece of cake. My poor husband has no control so I give away cake tops like crazy to neighbors and his office.

Do you have a bunch of customers asking you for sugar free, gluten free, dairy free, taste free…lol. I don’t even know what to say about that…. I actually had a person cancel a wedding cake on me because it told them I can’t do sugar free. Do you have any solutions or ideas recipes for that?

I always decline those requests or refer them elsewhere. I just don't have the desire to figure out all of those dietary recipes and don't want to take on the liability that comes along with it in case there's cross contamination!

How dare you not make the cake sturdy enough for them to slam on the breaks!! The cake that they want to be edibly soft and moist and delicious............they also want to be firm and stiff so they can slam on their breaks and the cake just stays put? Are they hearing the words coming from their mouth? Maybe they need that bubble wrap.
