Thanks to your videos, I saved my daughters wedding cake. Went to pick it up from a grocery store bakery ( bride and groom didn’t really want a cake, and I was ordering from over 500 miles away) I had ordered a simple 2:tier cake with no decoration. Just white. No cake. So I bought an 8 inch Black Forest cake with mostly white icing, and a 6 inch white cake with a red border and sprinkles. I asked the bakery worker for a tub of white icing, and I bought some tips in the baking section. Took off all the sprinkle, red border, white chocolate shavings and cherries. And then stacked it, re iced and put a border on and ended up with what I wanted. Thanks for giving me the confidence to make it happen

"bride and groom didn’t really want a cake" I'm not sure I understand what went on here. Maybe you just chose an unfortunate way to describe the situation? Did they maybe not want to spend money on a cake (because let's face it, money is tight for most of us)? Or they were like my husband and I, we didn't care either way and would have been perfectly happy without one. But when one of our guests showed up with a cute little wedding cake, we thought it was a thoughtful, lovely gesture and didn't take offense. I've been to a wedding, though, where they intentionally didn't serve a traditional wedding cake and there was some kind of deep reason behind it (I forgot, it's been nearly forty years). As well as other weddings where some family members or the couple were allergic/had dietary restrictions and it was easiest to go without a cake.

Repeat what you jotted down at the end of the conversation to make sure there are no misunderstandings. If you are a customer and a company throws a fit over taking the time to do this, you don't want to do business with them; you already know they'll treat your order like an inconvenience. If it's something important, don't do it over the phone if you can help it at all. Or if you do, follow up with an email where you reiterate what was said. Last resort, send an actual letter (if it's really, really important). You'd be amazed how many people will back down when you have even the smallest amount of evidence (and yes, if it comes to that, courts have been known to admit handwritten notes as evidence; doesn't mean it will win the case, but it does make a good impression). Commercially grown flowers usually have pesticides in them and it's the stem that's the issue - if you cut into it and just stick it in the cake, traces of pesticide can go into the cake. This is why cake decorators will use a special flower tape to wrap the stems, or at home you can just use plastic wrap. Just keep in mind that unlike the flower tape, the plastic wrap might stick to the cake more than the flower, so you have to make sure it comes out when removing the flowers.

Girl said “most people don’t have floral tape”… I am 😅😅😅 like I never add flowers to make cakes but I went through a flower crown phase and stocked up on that floral tape 😂

You just came up for me in the algorithm. Loved this, please make more of these "saving a cake" vids. Subbed.

Use straws or cling film when inserting the cake stems into the cake as people are going to eat it, you can get special pick things for inserting real flowers, some types of flowers are safer then others.

Just wondering if she confirmed if any of those flowers are toxic? Cause I remember hearing a story of someone who decorated their cake with Baby’s Breath flowers and was surprised that everyone who ate it got sick. Baby’s Breath flowers are poisonous.

As is the eucalyptus 😕

You did great, using the samples the bride chose. For ME, I would have skipped the large red roses and stayed with medium soft pink roses. The entire cake would look softer. OR I would use smaller red roses. Again, for what the bride wanted- you delivered! And in 90 minutes or less!!! ❤

If you have a crushed frosting you can use the paper towel method or you can use the hot water knife method.

Just checking in about Archie’s health. Is he well and back to normal now? Love your channel and really loved your home Reno clip. Your new house is a dream home. Congratulations 🥳

For flowers I have tried using fake plastic ones but I could see cutting a real flower and poking a skewer through instead of putting a stem into the cake.

I honestly think your cake looks prettier than the ones in the pictures. It's simpler and more tasteful.

Both of those Inspiration photos were what l looked at for our wedding cake and we used the one with the red flowers and swirls. Your cake was deffo better.

Another option that most people have instead of the saran wrap is to use it down plastic straws and put the stems in the straws so they don’t touch the cake.

100% I would take your rescue over the original bad cake. I feel so sad that that ended up being their wedding cake. Mine ended up bad, too, and actually, multiple people asked me during the reception if they could move it back into the kitchen. I hadn't seen it yet so I said no, it's fine! After the third or fourth person, I went over to take a look.. yikes. It wasn't this bad though.

Maybe you could have used the gold to dust the flowers? (Just the powder)

Someone mentioned that fresh flowers are dipped in pesticides but just an FYI they can also be poisonous. Like fox glove, lily of the valley, oleander, larkspur, daffodil, iris etc

This was such a fun video!! You got pretty darned close to the original fail, though I love that even your "worst" attempt is still better looking than it was. XD And the remade version looks great!!!

When I first learned to decorate was from an old school decorator. I had to pipe like 20 + roses every week for class. Was taught 50/50 royal + buttercream. Also got taught to pipe in stages. And scalloped border was the bomb in the 80’s. I to am not a fan. You did a good job piping the flowers. Piping ain’t easy. Don’t know what grocery store sold you icing?? The bakery stores where I am don’t sell it. I’ve decorated with real flowers on several cakes. Always used organic. Because regular flowers are full of pesticides and possibly bugs. You can dip your flower stems in either parowax or melted white chocolate. Easy and no fuss. I really love the placement of the flowers. Other cakes were heavy handed. Yours was light and lovely. Like a cascading meadow.

Thank you!! I love the idea of dipping the flowers in melted chocolate! I'm going to give that one a go!

@@TheIcingArtist Curious to know where you bought your pre-made icing? I can only get at McCall’s or Bulk Barn. And lately, BB hasn’t carried. I use for icing dummies.
